What they care about

DV Survivor & Advocacy, Mother, Intuitive Mentor, Systems Strategist. Helping others reclaim their lives after the reckoning, since I have lived through it.

Update for Day 2: Thank you so much for everyone's love and support here! Shout out to Jaimie for fielding emails today and contacting GoFundMe and the attorney's office. The attorney on this case is out of the office until Friday per an office manager, he's on vacation. On the back end we are working to keep Jane Doe's privacy and anonymity protected. From a direct email chain from GoFundMe - once her attorney or another select person takes over the fundraiser to link a financial institution they will have control of this GoFundMe page and access to all of the money. Neither Jaimie or myself has access to the funds in here. The only option we have is to hit "refund" if the funds are denied by Jane Doe. We promise a full refund if that happens. But that is not the hope here, obviously. Jaimie and I wanted to act swiftly to provide as much reassurance and financial support to Jane sooner rather than later and have made the appropriate contacts to her legal team to ensure that these funds get directly to her. Thank you all again! We will continue to send updates as this goes on.
Hello from Brooke - co-organizer here! THANK YOU so far to those who've shared, donated, messaged me. Jaime and I will be providing 100% transparency during this process. I'm in NY, up in Rochester - so local enough to Ithaca, NY. I will be aiding in supporting this fundraiser online and in person as needed. Every donation, reshare, message of love goes a long way. I promise you. I'm an SA and DV survivor myself, and I know that the legal battle is only a fraction of what the true recovery road looks like ahead for anyone in this horrific position. Thank you all. Much love.
Jeff has always been someone who showed up for others, but after a hip replacement in 2018 and a revision surgery in 2022, his life took a turn he never expected. The revision led to four hip dislocations, each one more painful and isolating than the last. One hospital stay left him waiting over 50 hours for relief, resulting in permanent nerve damage in both legs. The burning pain, spasms, and instability are now part of his daily life. Despite his determination and willingness to work remotely, Jeff lost his job on Veteran’s Day—without a single warning or accommodation in the last two years. As a veteran, this loss stung even more, and the disability system has only added to his struggle, denying his claim once already. His next hearing isn’t until September, and there’s no guarantee it will go his way. His VA benefits cover only a fraction of what he needs to survive. This fundraiser is to help Jeff bridge the gap while he waits for a decision that will determine his future. The funds will go directly toward his mortgage, utilities, food, medical and vet bills, lawyer’s fees, car payment, gas, and all the basic needs that keep him afloat. Jeff has been in isolation these last few years, not only worrying about how to keep his lights on, but also simply how to walk to his kitchen sink. He’s lost a major social network from work and has felt incredibly hopeless. Jeff has turned over every single stone for resources financially - gone to the Department of Human Services locally, contacted NYS, drained his retirement accounts, and more to stay afloat. He has accessed resources from DHS, but supplemental support only goes so far like SNAP and reduced heating costs. It is time for community action. Your support is not only helping his physical survival, but also his emotional health and livelihood. He deserves to be shown that there are people out there that do empathize and care. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and from Jeff. This means more to him than you know. All donations go directly to Jeff. Want to hear more? Check out our podcast episode from March 2024 on Spotify and on Apple Podcasts. Note: This post has been consented to from Jeff. The system fails survivors like Jeff, who are victims of situations such as medical malpractice, negligence, psychological harm. I am utilizing my platform during this desperate time for him, which is life-saving for those who are in isolation, done everything they can to stay afloat and find services, but have no where else to go to.
