<div><br />
</div>
<div>I am writing on behalf of my pug nephew/godson Guppy who is in desperate need of our help tonight.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Yesterday Guppy was rushed to the hospital in severe respiratory distress. He was intubated immediately and has been having trouble breathing on his own since this time. He was transferred today to Boundary Bay Hospital and if all goes well, he will undergo surgery that will attempt to correct what the vets currently surmise is laryngeal collapse or an adjacent condition called laryngeal paralysis.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The costs for the surgery and for care leading up to the surgery are overwhelming. Those of you who are dog people and dog parents know how heart wrenching and traumatic these emergencies can be- they are our babies, they are family members. When financial hardship stands between us and our ability to alleviate our dog's suffering and potentially save their life, all the fear and pain we are already feeling is compounded ten fold.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Guppy is only three years old. He is a young dog with a lot of life left to live but he needs our help so he can survive and get better for his family.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are hoping to help Guppy's family meet the financial need associated with his stay in the hospital (plus associated tests, critical care etc), as well as surgery. Guppy's family is currently at his side and understandably distraught and preoccupied so forgive any vagueness or minor errors in my approximations. I've been doing my best to gather relevant info and not bother them during a difficult time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>To the best of my knowledge and understanding costs before surgery total approximately 15k while the surgery itself may run approximately 10k. With the permission of Guppy's family I will be posting receipts and estimates as they arrive to loop in all potential donors and help them understand how the money will be spent.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I know so many of the people who will read this understand the specific kind of love that can exist between a person and their dog. I also know that times are tough and that so many of us are just one unforeseen emergency away from having to ask for help. Finally, I understand that money is tight for so so many people right now. If you feel moved to help Guppy in his time of need please donate according to your means. No amount it too small. Every donation is accepted with so much gratitude and love. I am so grateful on behalf of Guppy and his family for any and all support.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Also, Guppy is such a good boy. He has stayed with us for extended stretches of time and some of my most favorite things about him are: how he always wants to join me in the bath and/or shower, how he LOVES drinking from the hose (at our house he goes by "sheelang" which is the word in Farsi for hose), the way he is the first interloper to win over his sister Fern-infamous tough nut and undisputed alpha of the pug world, how much he loves his toys and became
</div>
<div>enamoured with my glasses case the last time he stayed here and carried it around with him everywhere, how he needs to be lifted onto every couch and bed and surface despite being perfectly capable of jumping up. We are pulling for you sweet Guppy❤️❤️❤️
</div>
<div><br />

Guppy needs life saving emergency surgery

<div>Hello friends, Ollie and Helena here.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Chilli was rushed to the emergency vets after suddenly having a huge seizure. As far as we are aware, he had never had a seizure before.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On the way to the vets, he continued to seize. Over the next several hours, he was in and out of sedation while the vets fought to get the seizures under control. His internal temperature reached 41 degrees centigrade, which is extremely dangerous. Although they managed to bring it down, every time Chilli was woken up, the seizures started again.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The vets made the decision to place Chilli into an induced coma to try to give his brain and body a chance to settle, and to allow the anti-seizure medication time to work.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Sadly, when they tried to wake him again, the medication had not stopped the seizures.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Chilli could not stay sedated long term. It was too dangerous, and the vets needed to find out what was causing the seizures. We were advised that he urgently needed to be transferred to a specialist neurology hospital to give him the best possible chance.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Since then, Chilli has needed emergency out-of-hours veterinary care, urgent medication, oxygen support, a pet ambulance transfer, a vet to stay with him during transport, specialist neurology care, MRI scans, intensive monitoring, anti-seizure medication, steroids, and treatment for suspected brain inflammation.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>He is still in specialist hospital under the care of the neurology team. His prognosis remains guarded, and we do not yet know how long this stage of care will continue or what the final cost will be.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Chilli is insured, because we have always tried to do the responsible thing for our dogs. If his insurance claim is accepted, it will go towards the first emergency out-of-hours vet bill, but after that his insurance is maxed out.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If Chilli makes it through this, his care will not end here. The hospital has told us that, depending on his final diagnosis, how he responds to treatment, whether he relapses, and his long-term outlook with this type of disease, he may need treatment for the rest of his life.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Possible ongoing costs may include chemotherapy immunosuppressant treatment every three weeks, taking around 8 hours each time, long-term anti-seizure medication, steroids, other immune-suppressing medication, regular blood tests, monitoring, neurology follow-up appointments, medication reviews, repeat neurological checks, possible repeat MRI scans, emergency relapse care, hospital admissions, and transport to and from specialist appointments.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As a rough guide, the chemotherapy-style treatment alone would cost around <strong>£9,000 ($11,900) to £10,000</strong> <strong>($13,300)</strong> over one year at <strong>£540 ($720)</strong> every three weeks.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Once anti-seizure medication, steroids, blood tests, monitoring, specialist follow-ups, possible repeat scans, emergency relapse care, and transport are added, one year of ongoing specialist care could realistically cost around<strong> £18,000 to £30,000 ($24,000 to $39,000) </strong>or more.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If Chilli has relapses, complications, further hospital admissions, or needs repeat scans and emergency treatment, the cost could be significantly higher. If he needs treatment for several years, or for the rest of his life, the total cost could become far higher again.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>That is why the fundraiser goal may change as we receive more information from the specialist team. We are adjusting it according to Chilli’s treatment needs as they become clearer.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This has also come after an incredibly difficult year for our dogs. Five of our six dogs have needed surgery, including Tonks, who had spinal surgery for IVDD only six months ago. We have six dogs, all around 6 or 7 years old, and insurance becomes more expensive every year as they get older.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our income is also not as predictable as people might think. Social media income is irregular and mainly comes from brand deals, which we do not do constantly. Helena has also had the amount of work available to her drastically reduced because of wider cuts across her profession, which has had a real impact at the worst possible time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are not saying anyone has to pay for Chilli. We would never want anyone to feel pressured. We are simply asking that if Chilli has made you, your friends, or your family smile over the years, and if you are able and willing to help, donating or sharing gives him a better chance.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Every donation will go towards Chilli’s emergency care, existing vet bills, specialist hospital treatment, medication, monitoring, transport, follow-up appointments, relapse care, and any ongoing treatment he may need if we are lucky enough to get him home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you so much for loving Chilli, sharing him, donating, messaging, and keeping him in your thoughts.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We love that little man so much. He is our family, and we know so many of you love him too.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Update: Video from Chilli's First Day of Chemo yesterday, today he also started physical therapy to re-learn to walk.

Help Save King Chilli

<div>After a five-year fight against ovarian cancer, Shawna passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29th.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>As many of you know, Shawna was an incredible person. We met in residency and have been inseparable ever since. Even after she moved to Rhode Island and after being diagnosed with cancer, our families were able to spend many weekends together. I will be forever grateful for the time I had with her. Shawna continued to work and fight for every treatment route possible to allow her to live life to the fullest and spend as much time as possible with her loving husband Mike and their children Eliana (10) and Ben (8). She spent the last three months of her life in the hospital and eventually in hospice. She was able to spend time with her family and friends and even witnessed the day Ellie earned her Black Belt in Karate. When Shawna was presented with the option of earing an honorary black belt, she turned it down because she wanted to earn it. That’s who Shawna was. To the very end.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>A memorial service will take place at Calvary United Methodist Church in Middletown, Rhode Island on Saturday, August 9th at 1pm.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Like many families with members suffering from serious medical conditions, Shawna’s family has felt the financial pressures of navigating life with cancer. For those of you that have been asking for ways to help, Shawna’s family could use support in paying medical bills, offset funeral costs and childcare expenses. If you would like to assist with their financial burden, any donation would be greatly appreciated.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>On behalf of Shawna, her loving husband Mike and their beautiful children Eliana and Ben, we sincerely appreciate your love and support.

Support for Shawna's Loved Ones in Tough Times

<div>Hello Everyone,
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I pray all of you are safe and well. I am Tensie Taylor and recently on Saturday, February 3rd, my cousin, Falisa Carter, lost her home due to a fire. This happened in Castalia, North Carolina. Falisa is my mom's niece (Falisa's father, Rev. Thomas Richardson, is my mother's brother). The fire started in the attic/ceiling of her home and immediately engulfed the roof, causing the roof to collapse and catch everything inside on fire. Because she lives in a brick home and brick does not burn, the outside of her house is still in tact, but the inside is gone. Thankfully, Falisa nor her son were home, so everyone is okay, but her home is destroyed. She was able to salvage some clothes and a few documents, but everything else is gone. This was not only her current residence, but this was also her childhood home, so this house carries much sentimental value.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The American Red Cross has been very instrumental to Falisa and her family, and my family has been a big help to her. Currently, Falisa is staying with my mother until things can get sorted out, and thankfully, she has fire insurance, so her home will be able to be rebuilt, but it could take up to two years.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Living 3,000 miles away in Los Angeles, I feel so helpless because there is nothing I can physically do. However, I spoke to Falisa last night and told her my idea to start a GoFundMe, and she gave me her blessing. There are a lot of things that need to happen, and money and prayers would serve she and her family the best at this difficult time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you are able to donate, my family and I would great appreciate it! If you can give $1, $10, or $100, any amount is appreciated. If you are not able to donate, please keep Falisa, her children, and our family in your prayers. We are going through a challenging time right now, but we still see the blessing amidst this tragedy. I am incredibly thankful that this fire did not happen while she was home; the entire roof caved in, and I shudder to think what a different outcome this could be. Instead of picking up the pieces from her house, we could be making funeral arrangements. God is STILL good!
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you in advance for any help you can give. May God bless you all and please remember to love on those who love you for we never know what tomorrow might bring.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In Gratitude,
</div>

Help for Family Member Who Lost House in a Fire

<a href="https://aardvarktattoocompany.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Check out our website</a> <br />This is incredibly difficult to write but we could really use your help. Our shop has been closed since March 23rd due to the Oregon Stay at Home order. On April 18th (my birthday),<strong> someone attempted to break into our business, busting our front door with a baseball bat.</strong> This has added even more urgency to the request I'm making today. <br /><br />I am fearful not only of the impact this pandemic is having on our world, but of the impact of the stay home order on the safety and survival of our business. <br /><br />Despite many efforts, we haven't qualified or been accepted for any loans or grants from our bank or the city, state or federal governments. This shop is the only source of income for most of our households. <br /><br />In our 10 years of business we've been so fortunate to be able to make a living doing something we love. Giving someone a work of art they'll treasure for a lifetime is a profound joy, and we can't wait to get back to it.  <strong>Please help us make sure the lights are on and we have a shop to go back to when all of this is over.</strong> <br /><br />All donations will go directly to paying our bills for the shop and helping our artists survive this hardship. Any amount, big or small, would mean so much and make a real difference for us.<br /><br /><strong>Thank you so much for your consideration!</strong>

Keep Aardvark Tattoo Company Alive

This month is the third month consecutive month that I've been late on rent and submitted for <strong>eviction</strong>. I was able to scrape the money together the past two months but this one is different. Financially, I've been struggling for a while but I need to give you a little backstory.<br /><br />In 2010, I separated from the United States Air Force. I know some of your opinions vary on the role the US military has had on the world and I totally understand but a lot of veterans don't get proper transition assistance or treatment. Due to the nature of my separation I was ill-prepared for the world outside. I had no idea how hard and unforgiving civilian life would be and in the past 9 years I've pretty much been surviving and not really living. I've worked many disparate jobs just to make money all while attending school for an IT degree. I scraped by a lot then, in 2014, I completed my degree program and got my first IT job, with a state-run agency. It was a very stable position and it helped me grow both my technical and emotional intelligence but I left in April 2019 to pursue a private sector IT opportunity that would help me grow, even more. I took a <strong>pay cut</strong> to take that job but I thought it was the right decision because it offered me so many opportunities my previous employer couldn't. Unfortunately, they terminated me after 2.5 months which left me unemployed and without unemployment benefits for 3 weeks. I applied to countless jobs in the meantime and drove Uber and Lyft to generate some income. Because I wasn't landing any IT positions I got a job at a local amusement park in late-July just to make ends meet. It helped but it still wasn't enough, I had to get rental assistance through local agencies and borrow money in order to make rent. Since I was still struggling even with that job I quit 2 weeks ago to pursue a sales position for a payment processor. It was commission-based and I couldn't afford to not close deals, and not make money, because the specter of eviction was looming, yet again. I assessed my reality and quit that job this Tuesday because I didn't have the time to work and not be paid. I needed, and still need, guaranteed income because I'm dancing on a razor's edge.<br /><br />I left my first stable job since the Air Force in order to further my career only to constantly fail and have my life crumble around me over the course of 6 months. I've had a lot of hardships in the past 9 years but this is definitely the roughest period. I've exhausted a lot of resources, some haven't helped and I'm at the end of my rope. I still can't pay a lot of my bills and I'm very afraid of being homeless. I'm at the point now where I'm preparing for that inevitability. I'm trying to sell my possessions but that isn't going well so, I may end up donating everything. I'm trying to not let this situation affect my already fragile mental state but it certainly isn't helping. The stress is getting to me. I need help.<br /><br />I don't expect y'all to pay all my bills, I'll take care of those when I can. What I need help with is <strong>rent and utilities</strong>. I'm trying my hardest to get another job that can pay me enough to get back on track and stable again. I just need a little help to keep me off the chopping block for another month while I hustle to get another job. Hopefully, I'll be paying rent on time, in the near future. It's just hard to do since I live in a studio apartment, without a roommate and without money.<br /><br />I paid $300 earlier this month but I have to pay the remaining <strong>$800 </strong>by the <strong>end of the month</strong>. I was submitted for eviction on October 15 but won't get the eviction letter between the <strong>23rd and 25th</strong>, by my estimate. From then, I'll have <strong>10 days</strong> to either pay or vacate. I also need help with my utilities for this month which are both past due. I owe <strong>$152</strong> for my electricity and <strong>$116 </strong>for my Internet. Since I don't have a job yet, I'll also need help with rent for next month which will be about <strong>$1,000</strong>. All told, I'll need about <strong>$2,070</strong>. Once I don't have have to worry about rent for this and next month, I can better focus on getting a job instead of just doing the rideshare gig to make immediate, small amounts of money for food and whatnot.<br /><br />I have <strong>two weeks </strong>in order to get this money together or I'll be another homeless veteran. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'm really trying to keep this roof over my head and not just for myself but for my dog, too. She's my best friend, she's really helped keep me grounded and I want the best life possible for her, as well as, myself. If you can't help financially, I understand, we're all trying to stretch a dollar. If you could share this with anyone who can help or even an agency I'm unaware of, I would be forever in your debt.<br /><br />Thank you for your kindness, patronage and understanding.

</p>

<p dir="ltr">&#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; But this Monday he wouldn't come in for food when we called him. (He ALWAYS comes immediately, food is his favorite thing besides naps and petting.)
</p>

<p dir="ltr">&#160; &#160; &#160; &#160; We searched until we found him hiding under a bush, he wouldn't put any weight on his right rear leg. We thought perhaps he got bitten by a snake and immediately took him to the vet. They concurred that it was likely a snake or spider bite and gave him some antibiotics and some pain medication. We didn't take x-rays at the time because they were expensive and everyone seemed to think the original diagnosis was sound.&#160;
</p>

<p dir="ltr">&#160; &#160; &#160; &#160;Unfortunately, he didn't make any improvement the day after, so the third day we took him to the vet again and had x-rays done, to find out that his right rear tibia bone is broken and had shifted to the point where it could not be fixed without inserting a pin in the bone. Our only options at this point were to amputate the leg ($2000) or have the operation to have the pin inserted so the bone could heal correctly. ($4000+)&#160;

Here he is, back from the vet. He's not particularly happy at the moment, he's on the pain medication they gave us but you can tell by the way he's holding his back leg that it is still very painful. Still, even the vet told us how amazingly good he was. Even when she was moving his leg around and feeling for the injury, positioning him for the x-rays, etc. he didn't bite or scratch her at all, just meowed to let her know he was hurting.&#160;

<p dir="ltr">&#160; &#160; &#160; &#160;The only option we could stomach was to have the full repair operation done. This presented a bit of a problem, since my wife and I don't actually have enough money to cover the costs. We are planning on opening a credit card that offers 0% interest for 2 years, but I am currently in school and applying to NC State for a degree in Industrial Design, as well as working as a mechanic part time. My wife Tieli cleans houses and works for a pet-sitting company full time.&#160;

<p dir="ltr">&#160; &#160; &#160; &#160;We currently are also fostering three little kittens (our first time fostering!) to help free up space at our local shelter. &#160;They are pretty fantastically cute. (Although Loki is not a fan of anything cuter than him, even through constant reassurances that he's my favorite!)

&#160; &#160; &#160; &#160;Pictured here is Ghost (in the crotchal region) and Houdini. Ghost is so-named because he's there one second and then gone the next. Houdini got his moniker by not only making leaps that shouldn't be physically possible for a kitten his size to make, (in order to escape the pen we set up for them) but also for being able to squeeze himself under the door of our office area. (He was so proud of himself I could barely bring myself to buy something to reduce the door gap...but I had to anyway.)

<p dir="ltr">&#160; &#160; &#160; &#160;Anyway, I've taken enough of your time. Your donation would mean the world to us. If Loki's operation ends up being less than the amount donated, we will donate any money left over to the Wake County Animal Shelter to help other amazing animals get a loving home.

<p dir="ltr">&#160; &#160; &#160;Thank you.
