Hello friends, Ollie and Helena here.
Last night, Chilli was rushed to the emergency vets after suddenly having a huge seizure. As far as we are aware, he has never had a seizure before.
On the way to the vets, he continued to seize. Over the last 15 hours, Chilli has been in and out of sedation while the vets have fought to get the seizures under control. His internal temperature reached 41 degrees centigrade, which is extremely dangerous, and although they managed to bring it down, every time Chilli is woken up, the seizures start again.
In the early hours of this morning, the vets made the decision to place Chilli into an induced coma. This was done to try to give his brain and body a chance to settle, and to allow the anti-seizure medication time to work.
A few hours ago, the vets tried to wake him again, but sadly the medication had not stopped the seizures.
Chilli cannot stay sedated long term. It is too dangerous for him, but the vets desperately need to stop the seizures and find out what is causing them. We have now been advised that Chilli urgently needs to be transferred to a neurological specialist so they can investigate what is happening and give him the best possible chance.
We are absolutely devastated, but we are not ready to give up on him.
Chilli is fully insured with the best insurance we could find for him and our other dogs, but his insurance is already being maxed out by the emergency care he needs today. The next stage of his treatment could include specialist neurological investigation, scans, continued hospital care, seizure control, medication, and whatever treatment is needed once the specialists know what is causing this.
We do not like asking this of Chilli’s fans. It is not something we ever wanted to do. But we both feel that if we do not try absolutely everything we can for him, we will regret it for the rest of our lives.
We love that little man so, so much. Chilli is our family, and we know so many of you love him too. He has made people laugh, helped people through awful days, and even helped other dogs in the past when their owners needed support.
Now Chilli needs help one more time.
If you can donate anything towards Chilli’s investigation and treatment, please, please help us.
If you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean the world to us.
Every donation will go directly towards Chilli’s emergency care, neurological investigation, specialist treatment, medication, hospitalisation, and aftercare. We will keep everyone updated as clearly as we can as soon as we know more.
Thank you so much for loving Chilli and for keeping him in your thoughts.
We need him to get better.
