<div>Through my own spiritual de-awakening, I begin to trace the surprising connections between American Evangelicalism and the current political climate in the US, all seen through the sharp, funny lens of an unlikely observer: a 12-year-old girl.

<div>Wild Wild Christian had its world premiere at Three Clubs in Los Angeles in August of 2018. It began as a one-off staged reading, and I had no intention of doing it more than once. But when I read it, it was a hit. People told me to keep going with it; everyone from my comedy friends to people in my theater company, and even Lynn Shelton, the late, great film director I had worked with on a commercial, who came to the show and emailed me afterward.

<div>This led to a collaboration with theater director Kevin Comartin, who helped me refine and develop the full show.
</div>

Help Simone Bring Her Show to Edinburgh Fringe!

<p>As some of you know, <b>Melissa was diagnosed with breast cancer last year</b>. Last week, we discovered that she is stage 4 with brain metastasis. Unfortunately, Melissa exhausted all of her FMLA with her previous chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

<p>Melissa will be starting stereotactic brain radiation next week. She's hoping she can just work through treatment, but there is a real concern that she will have to miss work and therefore miss pay. 
</p><br />

<div>Images leap to mind of the Sprinkle boys and my daughter, Georgia, on the rope swing, the trampoline, the play set, racing through the yard or leaping from the furniture along a network of pillows in a raucous and rapturous adventure of the imagination.

<div>It pains me to think of that yard, their home and everything in it, lost in the fire. What isn’t lost, thank God, are the neighbors we love. We hope you will join with us in an effort to get them housed again, so the kids can get back to building forts, Lego masterworks, and other adventures.

<div> <strong>I have been out of work for two and a half years due to respiratory failure episodes.</strong> I have been in and out of the ICU on six separate occasions. I've been confined to my apartment since 2022, attached to an oxygen machine. I lost my teaching and coaching jobs due to this condition, and it has taken a toll on my psyche and physical body. Without a regular paycheck each month, I've been stretching out my disability pay to barely scrape by for the last three years.

<div> <strong>Now I have the non-VA hospitals threatening to send me to collections if I don’t pay the bill from the four separate institutions.</strong> It is becoming overwhelming as I have gone through every avenue to plead my case to the institutions. Breathing Hope: Support a Former Teacher

<div>I am fundraising for the Tapia family. Leisa (my sister) and Chris have 5 sweet and beautiful children. Keira (17) has been fighting stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma for almost three years. She has just relapsed for the 2nd time and her new chemos aren’t working.  Since Feb 2022 Keira has done treatment 11 hours away from home and it’s caused significant emotional and financial burden on the entire family. 
</div>
<div>Last November Leisa herself found out she had a mass in her pancreas that had to be removed along with part of her pancreas- it was also cancerous, however thankfully not agressive and it was fully respected.  Leisa lost wages at the beginning of the year due to this, but pushed to go back to work less than 4 weeks after surgery . She is an amazing PA also while being there for Keira and the whole family. She has been denied FMLA many times over the past several years, which means the family went without wages for Leisa’s recovery and every time she is able to be with Keira for treatment. Keira since diagnosis Keira has only ever been off treatment for a short 2-3 months and she is currently trying palliative treatments to see if disease spread can slow down and to help limit symptoms. Chris has stepped back from his jobs (amazingly skilled carpenter/construction) as he has been commuting a lot with Keira to Memphis for her treatments, scans and appointments. (Leisa has also been there as much as she can and still keep her employment and benefits.) 
</div>
<div>Recently Keira has relapsed again, with a significant increased in pain. She chose to do a stronger chemo combo and again lost her hair and was away from family much of the last 3 months.  Unfortunately the most recent scans don’t show disease improvement.  They are looking into second opinions and consults for drug trials and they are also still hoping to make some memories happen.  (These consults start usually at minimum $1000 just to schedule and additional fees and travel costs - did I mention none of Keira’s cancer treatment has been covered by Leisa’s health insurance?)
</div>

<div>They’re being harshly kicked when they’re already down by the healthcare system my sister works so hard for. (I’ve watched my sister chart after clinic hours painstakingly making sure everything is perfectly recorded for her patients. Her heart is her family and her patients. I’ve seen it first hand.) Even though they have been dealt all the trials anyone could imagine having to withstand, they’re being dealt more.
</div>

</div>
<div>I don’t know what else to say other than no one should have to go through the hellish things I’ve seen this family go through the last 2-3 years. And even though it’s hard and unfair and stressful and draining and unimaginable in so many other ways, they still manage to show up for each other and so many others.
</div>

<div>It’s been 2 weeks and 5 days since my big sister <strong>Whitney Nelson</strong> was admitted to the ER and tonight will be the 20th night she’ll spend alone in the ICU. We are all still processing the last 2 weeks and if I said it’s been hard, that would be an understatement. It’s been devastating and heartbreaking for all of us but most of all for Whitney.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Whitney developed a head cold towards the beginning of August. After about a week she felt like she was almost completely better, and then she got a handful of mosquito bites while gardening. 3 days later she developed a fever of 103, and by that night she had <strong>lost her vision and the use of her arms and legs</strong>. By the time we rushed her to the ER she had developed <strong>meningitis.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Over the course of the last 2 weeks, Whitney has endured every kind of test you can imagine and a few lifesaving procedures. She became severely febrile and <strong>lost the ability the talk, move or breathe on her own. She developed pneumonia from being intubated</strong> and breathing with a bipap machine. After a week of endless unknowns and tests, she finally received a diagnosis of <strong>West Nile Virus</strong>. She doesn’t remember much about that first week as she was sedated and had a persistent fever. During this time we were praying every night that she would make it through the night. She aspirated twice and now has a feeding tube and a tracheostomy. She also currently has blurry vision.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>She is unable to speak </strong>to us although she is aware of everything that has happened. She has already missed one major family life event due to her being hospitalized and is unable to verbally express herself during this difficult time. Whitney has a long road ahead of her to completely recover from all of this and we are all counting our blessings that she is making small improvements every day.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>She will need extensive rehab in order to regain use of her muscles</strong>. This process will include:
</div>
<div>- retraining herself to swallow
</div>
<div>-talk
</div>
<div>-move her body
</div>
<div>-breathe on her own
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>There is a possibility that she will have <strong>long lasting or permanent neurological changes such as depression, vision loss, memory loss and motor dysfunction</strong>.
</div>

</div>
<div>We love her very much and we feel blessed to still have her here with us and that we have been able to support her mentally and emotionally. But the unfortunate reality is that <strong>we are not able to support her financially</strong> to the extent that she will most assuredly need.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Whitney is a Veteran of the Coast Guard and currently a full time student. Before falling ill she was a few weeks away from finishing her degree. She’s the life of the party everywhere she goes. She is the most gentle, beautiful soul who makes everyone feel loved and accepted and gives everything she has for the ones that she loves. We miss our Whitney so much and we know that she will get back to being her vibrant self because she is so strong. But we are now asking that our community give back to her.
</div>

<div><strong>The money we raise will be used to help pay for the hospital bills she has accrued in the ICU and her rehab facility fees.</strong> More specific updates about where the funds are going will be added as soon as we start receiving bills and know a breakdown of how much this is all going to cost. We expect these bills to be exorbitant and we would appreciate any amount you’re able to give. Even if that’s in the form of a simple share so that we can tell Whitney’s story and raise as much as we can to make her post hospital transition as comfortable as possible for her.

Blood collection bags for hospitals in UKRAINE

<p>I’m starting this go fund me for my coworker, who is now..  a  very good friend of mine. After spending 40 hours a week with this person for over a year, I’ve gotten to know her pretty well.  So as her friend and a mother myself, I feel there is no one more deserving, to bring a baby into this world more than Becca (my friend) and Zech (Becca’s husband)
</p>

<p>I met Becca last year. She had short hair and all I could think was how cool - I wish I could have short hair too. Little did I know, there was more to the story than that. 
</p>

<p>2013 through 2018 - Zech and Becca came to San Diego with little means. They  worked small jobs  to get by. She also started nursing school in 2016. Earlier in their marriage, they would also donate plasma. While sitting to donate plasma, Becca would sneak in studying for her nursing classes. <br /><br />10/2018 - Becca got her first nursing job. Her and Zech had financially stability and decent health insurance, so 2019 was the year they planned on becoming parents. 
</p>

<p>12/2018- Becca had been having abdominal pain for over a year. She saw an  Obgyn to begin planning for their family.   The  doctor found a mass in her ovary. She was told it was benign and to do a repeat scan in a few months.<br /><br />02/2019- As the pain worsened, Becca  got a second opinion. This doctor decided to remove the 10 cm mass. She was 29 when her doctor told her, “You have  ovarian cancer”.<br /><br />03/2019- A second surgery revealed that she had stage II cancer.  Unfortunately, a fertility sparing treatment would risk spreading the cancer.  Her and her husband chose aggressive treatment to get the best prognosis.   In March 2019, Becca had a radical hysterectomy and the possibility of her carrying a child was taken away. 
</p>

<p>08/2019- Becca’s last round of chemo was completed. She had completed 6 rounds of chemo. To get to this point, she endured days where she couldn’t eat, couldn’t <br />sleep, and even was hospitalized for septic shock. Zech was her primary caregiver and was with her through everything. <br /><br />11/2019 - Becca was now NED ( no evidence of cancer). To try and save what was left of 2019, her and her husband took a trip to Europe in celebration. 
</p>

<p>12/2019- Zech's mother passed away very suddenly.  What looked like a positive year ended with additional grief. 
</p>

<p>2020 - Becca had clear scans. She is currently 2 years with no recurrence!<br /><br />2021 - What was not mentioned was that during her chemotherapy, Becca had an emotional support dog named Truman.  Like their child, he emotionally fulfilled what they longed for. Unfortunately, after numerous complications, Truman was put to sleep.<br /><br />
</p>

<p>Although her survival is a great story and celebration, the greater story is that regardless of everything Becca has been through, she has remained a positive and a<br />great person the entire time. She remains not only an inspiration to me but I’m sure to many cancer survivors for hope and positivity.  She is not only deserving to be a mother but also a recipient of kindness that she has given throughout the years. 
</p>

<p>With heavy hearts, we are sad to share that Ebi passed away Tuesday afternoon surrounded by family and friends. One thing we know is the enormous impact the Nurselifern community has had on his life. Although sudden and not what any of us expected, we would like to do our best to make the next steps more comfortable. In true family form, we would love to come together to show our support for Ebi’s loving family.
</p>
<p>We are starting a GoFundMe on their behalf to pay for hospital related bills, funeral expenses, and memorial projects on Ebi’s behalf. Should you feel so inclined, any donation would be greatly appreciated. Our hearts go out to his parents, three brothers, niece, nephew, and Oscar.

Ebi's Memorial GoFundMe

<p>Hi everyone :)<br /><br />First I want to thank you guys for all the love and support after my IG post on the <br />16th. My Leukemia diagnoses was something I was a little nervous to share but it felt odd to keep it away from a community that I feel so close to. 
</p>

<p>I was also hesitant to make a gofundme because I have no idea how much this hospital stay or subsequent medical care will but its been encouraging to hear from so many of you encouraging me to do so. Prior to this, I considered my self a pretty healthy person so picking a robust insurance plan as always been more of a second thought (*regrets*). So the goal I set is really just a random guess. 
</p>

<p>Whatever is amount donated will go towards medical expenses and keeping things running with the nurselifern media company as I take some time off over the next few weeks or months to recuperate. I appreciate you guys.

<p>On December 13th, 2017, Susie went to the emergency room with terrible pain in her stomach and back. Medical staff rushed to get her a CT scan, and her doctor returned, in tears, to tell her that imaging had revealed pancreatic cancer, and that it had spread throughout her abdomen and around her liver.</p>
<p>We will add more information about her recommended treatment as Susie has a chance to meet with her oncology team, but for now it's safe to say that things probably look bad.<br /><br /><strong>OUR 2018 FUNDRAISING GOAL: $22,000</strong></p>
<p>Susie's first financial needs will be medical out-of-pocket and living expenses as she transitions to disability income.</p>
<p><strong>1) Medical out of pocket—$10,000.  </strong>Susie has a high deductible like most of us. Also, she’ll have to meet her 2017 deductible and then start over in 2018.<br /><br /><strong>2) Living Expenses—$12,000</strong> ($1,000/month x 12 months) Short term disability income will not be adequate to meet Susie's living expenses and the additional expenses she will have during her medical care. We need to raise this money *before* Susie needs it, so that she isn't living in fear about paying bills.<br /><br /><strong>TOTAL GOAL: $22,000.</strong><br /><br />Our dear hope is that we can reduce Susie's financial worries during this terrible time, so that she can concentrate on her treatment.<br /><br />We believe that in times of great need the greatest source of hope and healing is the love of family and friends. Hey Everybody,<br /><br />This is my friend Ashlynn. She is 4 years old and has an amazing, heartwarming smile. Last week she went to the doctor because her back was hurting and was in screaming pain. She was sent home with a prognosis of growing pains and advised to take ibuprofen, but still the pain continued. A second opinion at urgent care led to immediate admission to Doernbecher's Childrens Hospital where doctors found several tumors around her kidneys and spine. She has been diagnosed with Pre-B Lymphoblastic Lymphoma and will require several years of chemo and radiation<br /><br />Ashlynn is the sencond youngest of 6 children and daughter to a wonderful set of parnets Trisha and Shawn Widney. Obviously the sudden discovery of their daughters cancer has had a very large emotional and financial impact and her family and loved ones. I am asking for those who can help, to open your hearts and help this family through this difficult time.
