<div>"My sweet, wonderful baby girl, Katarina, was diagnosed with cancer this week. B-cell ALL, a type of leukemia. She’s been sick with a cough since November.

<div>We took Katarina to Urgent Care last Monday because her cough has just been getting worse and worse and our doctor kept telling us she was fine, that it’s a bad flu season, but we noticed her lips looked blue and she had dark circles under her eyes. We just felt unsettled about it all.

<div>So my friend Victoria suggested we go to the Urgent Care. We asked them to do a blood draw in case she was anemic. We got the results the next day and they told us to go to the ER immediately because she had crazy low white and red blood cells.

<div> We started chemo already. The next month will be heavy chemo and isolation since her immune system is so weak. Hopefully the chemo can kill the cancer by the end of the month and then it’s 2-2.5 years of maintenance.

<div>Big shout out to @anastasianarinskiy, who has been sitting in a parking lot for 8-12 hours a day to watch my 3 week old, Nikolai, so I could come down and feed him every three hours and spend the rest of the hospital visit with Katarina.

<div>Steve was born in Hilsboro, Alabama January 4th, 1984. He was a family man, girl dad, proudly raising two daughters, 14 &amp; 7 years old. He was a devoted husband, gym enthusiast and a hard working employee at JM Smuckers  pet food manufacturer.

<div>Steve dreamed of one day opening his own gym where he could continue to pursue his love of fitness while providing a safe space for community growth amd development. He kept his nose clean telling his close friends he only harbored a single fear as a black man- being killed by the police.

<div>Resting in preparation for work, September 29th, 2023,  Steve was ambushed by Decatur police officers while his vehicle was being wrongfully repossessed by a tow company. Policemen left steve family traumatized and with no understandimg of why their love one endured this horrific unwarranted murder with seven gunshot wounds to the body.

Clay (Steve) Perkins Innocent Black Man Killed

<div>On September 25th, Denise woke up from sleeping to find Lance coughing on the floor of the bathroom. She called 911 and an ambulance transported him to St. Joe's hospital in Burbank. He flatlined on the table but they were able to resuscitate him. Lance had a massive heart attack and was put into a medically induced coma to help stabilize him.  He has since been taken off of the breathing tube but has now suffered a series of silent strokes and an acute stroke. He is awake, but not always lucid and will need extensive rehabilitation. He is currently still hospitalized. When he is eventually released, he will need full time care as he continues recovering.

<div>This is an emotionally traumatic time for the Millis family and Denise is doing everything she can to keep everyone else's spirits up, as usual. She is always the one who has gifts, cards and flowers for everyone else, but would never in a million years ask for help. But they need it. This is the time of year when Lance and his business bring our community joy with the incredible lights and decorations he installs around our village. From now until Christmas, Lance is usually hard at work, literally lighting up our streets. After today's press conference the President has asked the nation to observe a 15-day quartine to help slow down the spread of the COVID-19.<br /><br />We have decided that tomorrow will be our last day until April 1st.<br /><br /><br />We struggled with this decision because we have 6 employees that work full time here at GoodPeople. They depend on their paychecks and tips for a living. They work really hard to make sure you have the best experience possible and the daily interactions they have with you really matter to them.<br /><br /><br />Throughout the past week, we have been in constant conversation over everyone's mental and physical well-being. Jenna and I (Chuck) dug deep into our own pockets to make a fund available for anyone that needed a few sick days; thankfully no one needed them but now the question isn't covering the wages of a few days. We need to cover the wages for our team for these 15 days. We have been able to put together $3,000. <br /><br /><br />I decided to start a gofundme because I want to give you, our customers an opportunity to take part in this. Based on the size of this email list, if everyone pitched in just $5... we can cover labor for the entire time of the quarantine. I know this community is generous, we are truly grateful for it.<br /><br /><br />I know that the staff at GoodPeople would gladly work through this... but I want them to go home, rest, not worry about opening, closing, wiping, or a random weirdo running through the shop. <br />Gotta little story for ya, Ags...<br />Our friend, Meghan, needs our help to beat the hell outta SCAD! Meghan Hokom Stapleton, <strong>Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 2002 and 2008</strong>, has been trying to recover from multiple procedures to repair her heart after a spontaneous coronary artery dissection, or SCAD.  <strong>She is now waiting for a heart transplant.</strong> Meghan's doing her part to stay focused on her health and to get well, so let's do our part to help out with medical expenses and costs related to her hospital stay, as well as her extended absence from her family and work. <div>After crossing the fifty-year mark, he was in his prime, building a mission-driven company to help people through life’s transitions, flying back to Boston to stay close to family, and raising his 10-year-old daughter, Iris, in Los Angeles.

<div>Co-parenting takes patience, humility, and heart, and Angel has all three. He made it look easy, ensuring Iris always felt surrounded by love, from Boston to LA to Seattle, where friends have become family

For Iris’s 10th birthday, he bought twelve orchestra Wicked tickets at the Pantages Theatre so her friends and their parents could share the experience and then gave up his own seat so another parent could attend.

<div>He’s gone to great lengths to keep Iris connected to her three best friends; Norah in Boston, Marion in Seattle, and Eva in Los Angeles; because he believes that childhood bonds are sacred and worth every sacrifice.

<div>Angel was truly forging a path as a founder and single co-parenting Dad.

<div>When he noticed it was taking several days to recover after playing, he chalked it up to getting older.

<div>The morning he couldn’t find the strength to make his daughter breakfast or lunch, he knew something was wrong. After dropping her off at school, he went straight to the ER.

</div>

<div>That was Monday, September 29.

</div>

<div>The ER sent him home with what seemed like pancreatitis.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>But the exhaustion wouldn’t go away. Searching for answers, he turned to AI uploading his medical lab work and even a photo of his stool. The AI flagged a bile issue and urged him to see a gastroenterologist.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>He followed through, meeting with his doctor to review the results and debated AI's finding. They landed on comparing new labs with those from his first ER visit. When the labs came in over the portal, she urged him to return to the ER on Sunday, October 12.

</div>

</div>

<div>One CT scan later, everything changed. The image showed a mass on his pancreas and spots on his liver.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>He was admitted immediately. Days of tests, anxious waiting, and desperate prayers followed. Then, on October 22, came the words no one is ready for:

<div><strong><em>Stage IV metastatic pancreatic cancer. </em></strong>

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>The treatment is relentless, and the odds are steep but Angel has never been one to back down from a fight.

</div>

</div>

<div>Angel didn’t freeze; he fought back with his mind. He started to study clinical trials, the disease, the hospitals, and started mapping high volume pancreatic hospitals.

<div>Dr. Sapo is more than AI GPT Agent, it’s a lifeline. It helps Angel track his diagnosis, interpret tests, and plan next steps. His entire medical file has been uploaded coupled with research, clinical trials and subject matter oncologist experts from all over the world.

<div>It holds medical teams accountable and keeps him ready for whatever’s ahead, whether that’s a clinical trial, a new therapy, or a transfer to City of Hope or UCLA Health.

<div>Built with purpose, Dr. Sapo reflects Angel’s spirit: combining intellect, empathy, and innovation to stay alive, stay present for Iris, and continue building Respiris.

<div>To enable him to cancel cancer, he brought twelve people together, most of them strangers, and turned them into his “home team" using WhatsApp.

<div>Then, he built a “family home team,” a lifeline that keeps love, updates, and decisions flowing among those closest to him.

<div>Every day, Angel fights researching, organizing, pushing for the best care, and holding onto hope.

<div>And through it all, he keeps showing up for others. He checks in on his daughter, supports his caregivers, comforts his friends. Even now, when he deserves every ounce of care, he’s still the one giving it.

<div>Angel’s story is one of grit and gratitude. The son of a machine operator and a house cleaner, he paid his own way through college and graduate school; a point of pride that defines who he is.

<div>Behind the scenes Angel has volunteered many hours to Colfax Charter. He has built WhatsApp groups for each classroom to ensure community was activated and ensuring the villages were complete with Mom and Dads present with their children year-round.

<div>Recently, while helping prepare for the Halloween event that brought together all the fifth graders, he showed up with cancer and all. Despite the fatigue and pain that most would find unbearable, he was there, quietly doing his part. He simply refuses to let illness define him. To him, it wasn’t about cancer; it was about community, commitment, and showing his daughter that resilience means showing up, no matter the circumstances.

<div>If your child has ever gone to Colfax, you’ve seen Angel, the Dad walking his daughter to school every morning. For him, those 500 steps aren’t just a routine; they’re sacred. Every walk is a chance to talk, to laugh, to dream, to inspire. And over the years, those steps have turned into tens of thousands; each one a quiet act of love and inspiration.

From that movement, he took on the State of Washington itself in U.S. District Court, not for his own case (he’d already rebuilt his life in California with shared custody), but for every Dad still fighting to be seen and every child who deserves both parents. He did this all <em>pro se</em>.

<div>In Los Angeles, when asked by his gaming colleagues, he co-facilitated monthly conversations with the Studio Ops Network gaming community on returning to work and rebuilding workplace culture. He volunteered because he could be of service.

His daughter inspired him to build a company that re-inspired transitions, not inspire, because people had been inspired before.

<div>Over 3,000 people have applied to to be part of the job search coach marketplace he built, and he was finding his voice; figuring out how to enable the HR world how to support people in transition and line up partners. While more than 100 people gathered for his first LA Tech Week event on October 15, he was in a hospital room learning he had cancer.
