What they care about

Hi everyone. Thanks for checking out my campaign. I am a 2 time kidney transplant recipient and I care about helping people understand Chronic Kidney Disease

A Second Chance at Life for me and my family Good day to you. Thanks for coming to my campaign page. After years of living with kidney disease and dialysis, I recently received a life-saving kidney transplant at NYU Langone Health in New York City. I live full time in Louisville, Kentucky. This transplant represents hope, healing, and the opportunity to regain my health after a long journey with chronic kidney disease. I am incredibly grateful to my donor, the transplant team, and everyone who has supported me along the way. However, the journey doesn’t end with surgery. The Reality of Post-Transplant Care Recovery after a kidney transplant requires frequent follow-up appointments, lab testing, and careful monitoring by my transplant team. Because my transplant care is based in New York, I must stay close to the hospital for a period of time after surgery, a total of 6 weeks. Why I’m Asking for Help Like many transplant patients, the financial strain of recovery can be overwhelming. While I focus on healing and protecting this incredible gift of life, I am asking for help covering the costs of staying near the hospital and traveling to the frequent follow-up visits required for a successful recovery. Your support will help ensure that I can stay close to my transplant team and focus on healing. How Donations Will Help Transplant-related expenses add up quickly and are often not fully covered by insurance - any funds raised would go toward: Temporary lodging near the hospital Transportation to and from transplant clinic visits Parking, meals and other travel costs Medication and recovery-related needs Any amount — no matter how small — helps make a difference. Thank You This transplant has given me a second chance at life. I’m deeply grateful for my family, the medical team, my donor, and the incredible community that surrounds me. I look forward to the day I will be able to pay it forward once I am on the other side of this life-changing surgery. If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this page with others means the world. Thank you for helping me protect this gift and continue my recovery. With gratitude, Alex Berrios
