Lucas, my fiancé, developed strep throat shortly after Easter. What started as a common illness quickly escalated into a life-threatening case of epiglottitis. When Lucas went to the ER, doctors had to place an immediate breathing tube to help him get enough oxygen. He is now on a ventilator and waiting to be transferred to another hospital, where specialists can drain an abscess that was recently discovered in the back of his throat.

 This has been an incredibly stressful and frightening time for both of us. Lucas’s current job does not offer health insurance, which means the medical bills are already piling up. On top of that, he will need to remain in the hospital for some time and will be unable to work as he recovers. The uncertainty about his health and the financial strain are overwhelming, but I am doing everything I can to support him through this.
