<div>Many of you know and dearly love Katy James. Right now she needs our help and support.

<div>Katy is an incredible and loving friend and host who has given so generously to so many of us over the years. Her door has always been open: a landing pad for friends passing through London, a safe haven for artists, musicians, and the wide constellation of creative spirits who found a place to belong with her. Katy has held space with such warmth and kindness, offering a nurturing, grounding home where community could gather.

<div>In central Portugal, she poured her heart into building a beautiful retreat space — a place of healing, rest, and community that has touched so many lives. Recently, devastating wildfires swept through the land. While her house was spared and thankfully Katy and her animals are safe, much of her land and livelihood has been reduced to ashes. Her insurance only covered the house, leaving her to face the immense task of restoration and rebuilding with no insurance funds.

<p>Imagine a place where rescued animals roam freely, trees grow in harmony, and people reconnect with nature.

<p>That’s the dream behind Beyond Roots &amp; Refuge — and together, we can make it real.

<p> My Name is David, and This is My Mission
</p><br />
<p>I’m raising £150,000 to purchase 13 acres of agricultural land in West Wales to create a safe haven for animals and a self-sustaining permaculture food forest that nourishes both life and community.. The land itself costs £110,000, and the additional £40,000 will cover:
</p><br />
<p>1. Legal and search fees (water, electricity, soil, etc.)
</p>
<p>2.A barn for storing tools, feed, and fencing materials
</p>
<p>3. Animal shelters and chicken coops
</p>
<p>4.Fencing for security and land separation
</p>
<p>5.Equipment for land preparation, rewilding, and planting

<p> What We’re Creating
</p><br />
<p>Beyond Roots &amp; Refuge will combine three vital missions:
</p><br />
<p>1. Animal Sanctuary: Rescuing and caring for abused, abandoned, and neglected animals.
</p>
<p>2. Permaculture Food Forest: Planting apple, pear, and plum trees, grapevines, rhubarb, kiwis, sweet chestnuts, and hazelnuts creating sustainable food for animals and people alike.

<p>3. Rewilding the Woodland: Restoring natural habitats for wildlife to thrive again.
</p><br />
<p>This project is not just about land it’s about restoring balance, compassion, and purpose.

<p>Beyond Roots &amp; Refuge will serve as a learning hub and volunteer base, offering opportunities for:

<p>Local residents, students, and eco-volunteers to join in tree planting, land restoration, and sustainable food production.

</p>
<p>Therapeutic activities for people seeking healing through nature and purpose-driven work.

<p>Together, we’ll create a sanctuary that feeds the hungry, shelters the helpless, and teaches the next generation how to live in harmony with the planet.
