<div>In April 2025, Shana &amp; Ryan’s two-year-old son, Maverick, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer. What started as sudden, unexplained pain quickly turned into every parent’s nightmare. Doctors discovered a tumor on his kidney that had ruptured, and on April 30th, Maverick underwent emergency surgery to remove the kidney. Because the tumor ruptured during the operation, his diagnosis was escalated to stage 3 cancer.

<div>Since then, Maverick has shown more strength and bravery than most of us could imagine. He has completed six rounds of radiation and is now facing 39 weeks of intensive chemotherapy. His parents are doing everything in their power to stay by his side every step of the way—but the emotional toll, time away from work, hospital visits, and ongoing medical needs have placed a huge financial burden on the family.

<div>Last week, a car hit me while I was running away from an aggressive dog. My leg is badly broken and I’m in a lot of pain. Time is of the essence. My parents options are amputation or to pay to have special made plates and pins in my leg. We have a surgery date, but right now we don’t have enough to pay for it. The surgery is going to be $7.5k after all the special pieces are made for my leg. Medical bills so far have not been included in the surgery cost. My initial appointment was another $500. We’re also unsure of any additional post op therapy costs to come.

<div>Our good friends Bethany and Matt, had a house fire last night. Fortunately, Bethany, Matt and their fur babies made it out safely. But, the house was left with a lot of smoke and water damage. <div>Backstory:     As some may know, "Chip" (My father and father to my sister Emily) has had a pretty mild heart condition over the past several years. In 2010, after multiple visits to the emergency room, his cardiologist recommended that he receive an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). The purpose of the ICD would be to continuously monitor dad's heart and deliver electric shocks, when needed, to restore a regular heart rhythm. Dad's heart races uncontrollably and goes into lethal arrhythmias- the shock from the ICD is to prevent him from having a heart attack or, worse death. Dad's heart could have stopped at any time without warning!

<div>He has fought through many years and many, many trips to Boston hospitals. Dad has worked with his cardiologist very closely to prevent any other damage from occurring to his heart. But nevertheless, he was getting random shocks with no warning at all that would send him to the emergency room, grasping for his normal life back!

<div>Fast Forward:    About 3 weeks ago, dad was shocked twice while sitting home on the couch. His team of doctors always told him if he was shocked more than once in a short period of time that he needed to get to the emergency room asap because something wasn't right. Dad made his way to the emergency room at Charlton Memorial. While waiting in the ER for answers, he was shocked 7 more times for no reason! Getting shocked by the ICD is comparable to getting kicked in the chest by a horse. Charlton Memorial immediately sent him to Brigham and Women's ICU in Boston. Dad has been in the ICU since Sunday, Sept. 18th. He has been on an ECMO (a machine that does the job of his heart and lungs. Basically life support) and has since been intubated and on heavy sedation since his arrival at Brigham And Women. I've made several visits and have been in very close contact with all his doctors, nurses and surgeons. At this point in time, he's been diagnosed with Ventricular Tachycardia (basically heart failure) and Sarcoidosis (an inflammatory disease which causes organ inflammation, in this case its his heart thats inflamed ) which combined can be fatal.  Dad has since undergone a few surgical procedures to keep him alive and as comfortable as possible.

<div>As I sit with the Doctors and medical support staff, things are changing very rapidly as his condition continues to worsen. There are a few limited options on the table right now. Dad has now since been to the OR again and recently had a small temporary device called an "Impella" pumping device implanted in the ventricles of the heart. Its job is to serve as a bridge to recovery or transplantion.

<div>That is where we are today. Trust me; I know it's a lot! And if you have read along this far then, you know how hard this is for all his family. After much thought and consideration, I have decided we are left with no choice but to ask for help. Dad is going to be out of work for weeks, if not months, and who knows what's going to happen beyond all that. Yes he has medical insurance, but we all know how that goes. I don't even need to get into that. There are far more costs associated with this than we will ever know. There is no way for us to predict how long this journey will be. It could be weeks; it could be months upon months... Please help his family help him ease his mind of his financial burdens. The physical pain and emotional toll of having to go through this nightmare are enough. We want him to focus on his mental health and physical healing so that he can recover enough for the next steps (heart transplant).

Javen’s Jar is a Go Fund Me account set up to collect donations to help a family lay their sweet, loving eleven year old young boy to rest. As a long time family friend along with the families permission, I am desperately asking for your help with sharing this story and any donation that you could possibly make. Life lessons are meant to be learnt over the course of time but today a multitude of them unfolded in layers, all at once, as I watched as family and friends united and consoled one another today over the tragic end of Javen’s shortly lived life.<br />In every photo you will see this little boy’s smile light up the room. But the reality is, you never know the amount of pain someone may be holding in their heart. Out of respect for questions that may not ever be answered regarding this loss, my plea for help will not be based on the severity or the series of events that led to his passing.<br />Instead I will tell you a little about Javen. He was in fifth grade. He was a big brother to Jackson. And Javen and Jackson are the love of their mother, Jessica’s life. The heartbreaking reality is, he will never know just how loved he truly was as there was no need to turn around to see that it was Jessica being consoled by the continuing flow of family and friends, as the sound of a mother’s anquished cry over the loss of her baby is a sound that you cannot unhear. That along with the look on her mother’s face of pure heartache for not being able to take any of the hurt away.<br />This family is strong in their faith and will lean on each other through this incredibly difficult time. Right now, they are broken and their smiles may never shine quite as bright as they once did.<br />I am hoping that you will move if you feel moved and help this family.<br />I am asking that in Javen’s memory we come together and give his life more meaning than his death.<br />Can we please lessen the difficult times that they are going to face over the next few weeks and months. Jonathan Collis Luiz and his wife Mary Beth had been together for 17 years.  Jonathan was a wonderful father of 4 amazing, beautiful children: Kaylah Carolee, 18 years old and graduating Diman Regional High School this June. Jaiden Collis, 13 years old and going to be starting his high school career come this August at Diman Regional High School. Ava Rose, 11 years old and will be starting her first year of middle school. And finally Ian Joseph, 5 years old who is going to start 1st grade.  They moved from Fall River, Massachusetts on March 19th 2017 to Citrus Springs, Florida to live with his older brother Jason and his Girlfriend Terri, and their (with their children combined) four children: Austin Luiz, Nathan Luiz, Abby Poston and Brooke Poston; until they both landed jobs of our own.  Jonathan’s dreams were finally coming true after years and years of pushing and working towards them.  He took his wife and children out of the toxic area of crime, drugs and bad school systems. Jon wanted to move them to an area that he was raised in. He promised a new beginning, a fresh start and to leave all the negativity behind. When Jon and his family finally arrived at their new home in FL, they were all so excited and had never felt happier.  They knew that this was their new beginning, they knew they were going to finally begin the life they’ve been wanting so long for. The next week after arriving Jon and his wife both found jobs to start their journey; Jon found an amazing job working for DS &amp; Co. as a foreman running his own painting crew.  He was thrilled to have such a great start, his children where adapting to their new schools, making new friends and everything was looking up. Until Wednesday, April 26th 2017 at 6:18am; Jonathan was driving north on U.S. 301 in Gainesville, FL making his way to work early morning when the accident occurred. When a dump truck decided to make a U-turn taking Jon’s right away privilege, leaving him with not enough time to break, Jon’s 2006 land rover collided with the truck on the driver’s side and became stuck under the passenger side of the truck. State Troopers told us on that night that our Jonathan (34 year old) had passed.  Tragically we lost our beautiful, wonderful, strong husband, father, son, brother, cousin and friend.  The truck driver was not harmed in the accident.  We are reaching out in this terrible time of need for anyone willing to help his wife, his children, his parents, his sister, and his brother: Carol Luiz, John Luiz, Mellison Luiz and Jason Luiz with the expenses of Jonathan’s passing and to help his beautiful wife and children get back of their feet.  Absolutely anything is appreciated.
