Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund

Noriko Nasu was attacked in Seattle's International District on Thursday, February 25. Knocked unconscious by a man wielding a rock in a sock, Ms. Nasu suffered multiple fractures to her nose, broken teeth, bruising and a concussion. Her partner, Mark Poffenbarger, was also injured in the attack, receiving multiple stitches for his wounds. This is being investigated as a racially motivated attack. A Japanese teacher at Inglemoor High School, a mother &amp; an accomplished photographer, Ms. Nasu now faces a long road to recovery, including expensive dental work that is likely not covered by insurance. I do not personally know Ms. Nasu, but this unprovoked attack hit close to home. As a Northshore School District parent and a Japanese American, I am heavy-hearted by the rise in violence against Asians. Together with Chikako Misener, my son's Japanese teacher at Bothell High School, I have taken a few moments to organize this fundraiser as a conduit for others to share their support.


The beloved children's show host Mr. Rogers once advised, in times of trouble, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people helping."


If we each make a small contribution &amp; share with our social circles, together we can be the helpers - we can be the light in Nasu-sensei's moment of darkness.  Thank you for your consideration. The morning of February 15th my brother and his kids lost everything due to a house fire. My brother was just granted full custody of his three kids not even two weeks ago.  Due to some unforeseen circumstances the mother is not involved. So everything is up to my brother. [update:  I've stopped collecting donations as the level of generosity far exceeds what we expected.  I can't thank you all enough for the care and love that you have shown.] As many of you know, Roxanne was the victim of domestic violence.  Roxanne left behind two wonderful children who are grieving for the loss of their mother. Hello to our friends and family, both near and far. My mom, Janet (Spradlin) Officer is facing the battle of her life. Beginning in June, she has had a bad cough that just will not let up. At first, she didn't give it much thought. She'd had a cold and a cough is part of the territory with that. But it would not go away. It kept getting worse. She saw her primary care provider who prescribed antibiotics. She ended up in the ER many times for trouble breathing. Several rounds of antibiotics and two bronchoscopies later, we have the answer no one was expecting. She has stage 4 lung cancer. As you can imagine, this has been devastating. It's hard to know where to even start. My parents have worked their whole lives taking care of others. My mom always wished she could open a restaurant to feed the world. Now she needs taking care of. My dad, Keith, is 78 but is still working at the shop when he can, to try and pay the bills. My mom has been unable to work due to her health problems. The medical bills as well as the day to day bills are piling up while they try to deal with this scary diagnosis. Any amount you can give would be wonderful. Even if you cannot give, any love and prayers you can send to mom and our whole family would be so appreciated.
