Maddy’s Birthday Fundraiser: Help End Gun Violence!
Firearms are the leading cause of death of children and teens in the United States. Every day 125 people in the US are killed by guns.

We have a huge gun violence problem. Do we have a mental health crisis too? Yes. But gun violence is not solely caused by mental health. The United States has similar rates of mental illness when compared to countries of similar development in education and economics, however we have the highest firearm injury and firearm death rate.

Based on the Second Amendment, Americans have the right to bear arms. But with rights comes responsibilities. Common sense gun laws help protect communities from gun violence without violating the Second Amendment. (You have the right to drive a car but you don’t have the right to drive a car drunk).

I support Everytown, a national organization working to end gun violence through common sense gun laws, education, supporting survivors, and implementing violence intervention.

Some of the common sense gun laws include background checks, extreme risk laws (loved ones or law enforcement can petition a court for an order to temporarily prevent someone in crisis access to a gun), and permits and training to carry concealed guns in public.

Hello! My name is Chloe,

I am here today to ask you if you would be willing to donate to Everytown for gun safety. I am trying to raise money for the issue of youth violence in schools for my citizens in action class in my high school. I am raising money for this organization to help the stop of gun violence! Gun violence is one of the highest leading causes of death in teens in America. How many more kids have to

die in a place they should be learning before we do something about gun regulation.

I am taking this issue to the heart of the matter, because I don’t want to see anymore kids suffer and live in fear while attending school.

About Play for Peace: We are a group of musicians working to better our community and the world through charity concerts! Play for Peace was started by two high school students, Linden Wadsworth and Chloe Von Hoff. We wanted to raise money for different issues affecting our community and the world, and we thought that music was a great way to bring people together for our cause. With young musicians from all across Evanston, we have been working hard to put together this first concert over the past few months. Our concerts this semester are raising money to combat gun violence, and the group voted to donate to Everytown for Gun Safety.

We are accepting donations in memory of Brian Fraser. Brian was beloved by his family, friends, and fraternity brothers and a sophomore at Michigan State University when his life was ended by an act of senseless gun violence on campus, on February 13, 2023. We are raising funds in light of the horrific public health crisis facing our nation right now--specifically, gun violence in our schools, streets, and places of worship. This is hardly a new issue in America, but it is our sincere hope that in the wake of the 250+ mass shootings in our country during this calendar year alone, regular citizens might be able to join the fight to reduce the incidence of gun violence and to secure a safer, more compassionate future for our children. And while we realize it is easy to become demoralized and cynical about our ability as a nation to come together on some of these issues, we are confident that TOGETHER we will be able to be agents of meaningful change.

Your donation to Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in America, will be used to support ongoing efforts to:

For my mitzvah project, I am biking a marathon on October 10th to raise money for Everytown for Gun Safety. This is a cause that is important to me, so kids like me can feel safe going to school. The shooting in Highland Park, IL, this summer, while I was at camp, scared and devastated me. It made me realize that no community is safe from gun violence.
