My oldest son, Lucca, is an incredible and resilient young man. He lives with autism, Tourette’s Syndrome, bipolar disorder, anxiety, sensory processing challenges, and features of schizophrenia—but those diagnoses don’t define him. At his core, Lucca is loving, affectionate, and full of light. He has a contagious laugh, a playful spirit, and a way of finding joy in the simplest moments—especially when he’s with the people who love him.
<br>
<br>
 For the past nine years, since the challenges of puberty began, Lucca has been in and out of group homes. While these settings provide structure and support, they have never truly felt like home. Too often, it feels like he’s surviving instead of living—his days shaped by systems rather than by what brings him comfort, connection, and happiness.
<br>
<br>
 So we are taking a leap of faith and following our hearts—we are bringing Lucca HOME. Lucca’s father, now retired, is ready to devote himself fully to caring for his son. Together, we want to create a safe, stable, and loving environment where Lucca can finally thrive—where his needs come first, where he is understood, and where his life is centered around dignity, comfort, and joy. This is more than a move—it’s the foundation for a completely new chapter in Lucca’s life.
<br>
<br>
 The reality is, this transition comes with significant financial challenges. Securing the right home and creating a safe environment for Lucca requires resources we simply can’t manage alone. Every dollar raised will go directly toward making this home possible—providing the stability, safety, and care Lucca deserves.
<br>
<br>
 Bringing Lucca home means giving him the chance to live in the least restrictive, most loving environment possible—surrounded by family, patience, and unconditional support. It means giving him not just care, but a life filled with connection, understanding, and moments of real joy.
<br>
<br>
 From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of Lucca’s journey home. Your support means more than words can express.

Help Bring Lucca Home

<div>I'm updating the fund raising goal and purpose because Tess can't catch a break. She needs help.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Tess was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer in December 2024; Cromophobe Renal Cell Carsinoma. So far she has had multiple large tumors removed by having her ovaries and one kidney taken out, between two surgeries since June. She has also been hospitalized in the ICU several times. The cancer can't be treated with chemo and immunotherapy hasn't been effective. Only radiation and surgery have helped. The cancer is controlled at the moment but will continue to metastasize, sadly.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Tess was approved for a very small SSDI monthly benefit, but she was expecting back pay to December, and they are only going back to June. This was a huge blow to her ability to provide for herself. The small monthly payment is doable, if she lives in an RV park. She has part of the money to buy a used RV but has other bills to pay, along with ongoing medical expenses not all covered by insurance (deductible starts over in January, co-pays, and premiums). Getting a truck to pull the trailer would be ideal but we don't think she'll be able to pull that off. Her current living situation is only temporary and she needs to make other arrangements soon. The RV is the most stable option, as it would be hers, and give her security, as it can be moved.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Tess was between jobs when she found out about the tumors, but when the actual diagnosis came, she had to stop the application process to be a correctional officer, with one step left. That was devastating. Any help would be a blessing and so appreciated. Tess hates asking for help, but I'm willing to on her behalf, because she has helped so many people throughout her life. Now she needs it for herself. She has gotten her girls on their feet so now she needs to focus on taking care of her own needs. Thank you so much for all the help she has received already. She is so beyond grateful. Please keep her in your prayers. God bless you.

<div>I'm starting a GoFundMe to raise money to support my brother, Curtis, and sister-in-law, Holland. They lost their family home to the Eaton fire in Altadena. Luckily, they evacuated safely but are now picking up the pieces. Please consider helping to assist with needs that might not be fully covered by other sources of aid.

Help Curtis and Holland Rebuild After Fire

<div>Dear Friends, Family, and Community,
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We’re reaching out to you with heavy hearts to ask for help for our dear friend, Hope, her husband, Eric, their children, and two pups, Ellie and Ekō, whose home in Asheville, NC was tragically destroyed by Hurricane Helene. Two massive trees fell on their home, causing devastating damage. They met with a structural engineer who advised that the damage was so severe that the house will need to be torn down to the studs and rebuilt. The arborist said that the trees that struck the home were estimated to be 10-15 tons.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>While they have insurance, the reality of this disaster is overwhelming. They’re facing significant financial challenges and incurring many unexpected expenses that the insurance may not fully cover. They’ve been displaced from their home and are currently staying in a condo for a couple of weeks, but the road to recovery will be long, uncertain, and costly.
</div>
<div>Not only are they dealing with the loss of their home, but they are also facing the strain of lost income during this time. The costs of rebuilding, temporary housing, and navigating this life-altering situation have created an enormous burden on their shoulders.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This is where we, as their community, can step in and make a difference. We’re raising funds to help Hope and Eric’s family cover the costs that insurance may not cover and to provide them with some relief during this incredibly difficult time. Whether you’re able to contribute financially or share this page, your support means the world.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Any amount, big or small, will help Hope and Eric take the first steps toward rebuilding their life and their home. Your generosity will provide them with much-needed peace of mind as they navigate the overwhelming road ahead.
</div>
<div>Thank you for your kindness, support, and love during this challenging time.
</div>

<div>Thank you,

<div>It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we have to share the unexpecting passing of Dagny Benedict on Febuary 8th, 2024. Dagny was a daughter, sister, cousin, and aunt. She was a 16 year old 10th grader from Owasso Oklahoma.

<div>With all the emotional pain and stress death brings, it also brings unexpected financial burdens. We would like to raise money to help take care of any funeral expenses.
</div>

</div>
<div>It is in times of sadness and loss when people can come together to help one another make it through. Any support you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Please keep Dagny’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Jenina Marik is an amazing mom to two young boys, a talented photographer, and honestly one of the strongest and most resilient people I know. She is a life-long Southern Californian living and working in Santa Clarita for the past 20+ years. Now she faces an incredibly tough battle against <a href="https://gofund.me/11e8dcaa" title=""></a><a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALS" title="">Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)</a>. ALS is a relentless terminal disease causing progressive muscle loss and there is currently no cure. At only 39 years old, the challenges she and her family are facing are immense. <br /><br /><b>Her Story</b>
<br />Jenina first felt the onset of ALS in March 2020, noticing a weakness in her leg while caring for her newborn son, Owen. After years of unexplained falls, muscle twitches and weakness, she was officially diagnosed with ALS in March 2023. The disease has rapidly progressed and in the past year she went from walking, to using a cane, and now is solely dependent on a wheelchair. <br /><br />Even after her diagnosis, she’s remained positive! She is trying to keep her photography business going. She’s the same creative force behind the lens, but now she manages the editing and business from her wheelchair. And she travels in her wheelchair through the paseos to volunteer at Eli’s school. But to keep going she needs to make modifications.
<br /><br />Last year Jenina and Tyler purchased what they thought was their forever home, a beautiful split-level home in Valencia. But ALS had other plans. Their dream home has become increasingly difficult to navigate.<br /><br /> <b>Modifications Needed</b> <br />

<ul>

<li><span>Accessible Upstairs and Downstairs Bathroom - the current setup requires her to go upstairs and do multiple difficult transfers to use the restroom. Renovations to doorways and remodel estimate is $20,000.</span>
</li>

<li><span>Wheelchair Van - For Jenina to maintain some semblance of independence and active parenting, a functional used van estimate is $25,000.</span>

</li>

</ul><span><br />In addition, there will be medical costs for medication and other equipment. </span><br /><br /><b>How You Can Help</b>
<br />Your generosity will help reduce financial burden and offer Jenina some peace during this difficult time. <br /><br />Thank you for taking the time to read about Jenina's journey. If you're not able to donate, sharing this campaign on your social networks would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support!<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/74996037_1693104320406877_r.jpg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="74996037_1693104320406877_r.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/74996037_1693104505998519_r.jpg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="74996037_1693104505998519_r.jpg" /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/74996037_1693177613378245_r.jpg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="74996037_1693177613378245_r.jpg" /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/74996037_1693177632416571_r.jpg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="74996037_1693177632416571_r.jpg" /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/74996037_1693104516852997_r.jpg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="74996037_1693104516852997_r.jpg" /><br />

Support an Amazing Mom's Fight Against ALS

<div>Hi I’m Nicole, I have known Rashell for close to 10 yrs. She has been thru so much heartache in the past and she finally found her PERSON, Kyle Schmidt. They started a family with 2 boys and planning their future. Both Kyle and Rashell were working parents with both boys attending daycare/preschool, and a surprise baby girl on the way. They are expecting their baby girl any day! Due 07/14/23 Rashell has worked her entire pregnancy and is now off for Maternity. While Kyle worked in Santa Clarita, He has been staying at his dads house to save on commuting expenses. Which put strain on both of them. On July 7th late at night. Rashell got a phone call from Kyle’s dad. He told her Kyle had passed. It was a complete unrealistic reality. In a blink of an eye Rashell lost her best friend, sole mate and father to her children. The boys, Brayden-3 &amp; Walker- 1 and a half, have lost their dad and male role model. The baby girl Kinsley- due any moment, will never know her father face to face, she will never experience his touch, or hear from him how excited he was to meet her.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I am asking for help during this time so it’s one less thing Rashell has to stress and worry about while caring for their children. If you can help in any way, it would be greatly appreciated.

<div>Hello, Thank you for being here. Asher is my grandson, he turned 6 years old in July. The youngest of three children. His mom Brooke is a full time Butcher and the sole provider for her family. At the end of a beautiful summer here in Eastern NC Asher was given a life changing diagnosis, Osteosarcoma, a very aggressive bone cancer. His diagnosis followed some pain &amp; swelling near his right knee that had only just begun days before, Asher was diagnosed quickly, thank God.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>His treatment started right away. Asher is currently undergoing ten weeks of Chemotherapy &amp; we as a family are just beginning to realize how hard he’s going to need to fight to win his health and vigor back.
</div>
<div>Soon he will have surgery, this devastating cancer at the end of his femur needs to be removed along with his knee &amp; a portion of the lower leg. With expert surgeons he will keep his ankle and foot at the end of his femur. The procedure, a Rotationplasty, is the best hope for this little guy to run and play again. Following surgery Asher will endure nineteen more weeks of chemotherapy.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Brooke is doing all she can to both provide and be the momma her son so desperately needs right now, sometimes missing shifts at work to be by his side. Asher is being treated at Duke Childrens Hospital in Durham NC about three hours from his home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Please help us in supporting their efforts to get to the hospital for treatments, surgery, prosthetic &amp; physical therapy. With your help we can meet their needs and ease the burden at this very difficult time.
</div>
<div><br />

<div>Please join us in praying for this brave beautiful boy.

Asher's Fundraiser

<div>Hello, my name is Stacie and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my sister, niece and nephew.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Tragically and unexpectedly, Brian Anderson passed on Monday, May 15th 2023. Brian is survived by their two children, Nathan (16) &amp; Natalie (15). He is also survived by his 3 sisters, Michelle, Krista and Shyanne. Brian is preceded in death by his mother, Nanette, his father Ron and his brother Tony - We know it was in their loving arms he was met as he entered the gates of heaven.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Brian was a Harley riding, family loving, adventure seeking man with a personality so big you couldn't help but smile. He loved his tacos, his tattoos and his dirt bikes. He had many hobbies, one being building RC cars, which he and Nathan enjoyed doing together. Brian always stayed busy- he tinkered with anything he could get his hands on and enjoyed that. Brian was a professional painter most of his life and was damn good at his job. He built a very successful business and family, and that is how we will remember him.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After such a shocking loss, what is left is a family trying to figure out how to put one foot in front of the other, keep moving forward and also grieve. What is also left are arrangements to be made, and that can be very stressful a task. Unfortunately, Brian did not have anything in place in the event of his passing. Jennifer and Brian were best friends long before they were ever married, and though their marriage ended she loved him dearly. She prayed for his health and happiness every day and always wanted him to be fruitful, thrive and have a strong relationship with his children- Brian adored his children.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>It is with utmost importance to Jennifer that Brian be honored properly with a service, with dignity and closure for their children, family and friends.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you are willing, I know it would greatly remove a mountain of stress to have the financial means for them to give Brian a proper and final goodbye.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On behalf of our family and Brian's family- we thank you for anything you are able to give. Beyond donations, we are very grateful for the prayers and support to Jennifer and the children during this difficult time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>All funds raised herein will be immediately dispersed and managed by Jennifer only.
</div>

Brian's Memorial Fund

<div>Hi my name is Brooke Vanover. I am reaching out to the community for help. My brother in law , Mike McGovern had a widows maker heart attack on May 3rd. He is currently in the hospital and receiving the care he needs.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mike will be unable to work at this time. Mikala , his loving wife, my sister ,will need to work less to support her husband on his journey to recovery.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mikala and Mike are always there to help others. Both of them have hearts of gold and show up for their family and the local community every chance they get. They are involved in the local community in many ways. Mikala is a well known massage therapist and Mike coaches lacrosse when he is not working as a financial advisor. It is always so difficult to ask for help but they will need the community to rally around them during this challenging time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If we can take a little financial stress of them, my hope is that all energy can be put towards Mike’s full recovery. The funds will go towards whatever they need at this time including housing, food, medical bills etc.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you in advance for considering helping my family . Any help will be greatly appreciated . Prayers and good thoughts always welcome .
</div>

</div>
<div>With Love,

The McGovern Family needs help!

<div>To know Ben, was to love him. The moment he walked into a room, it instantly got brighter. Ben was the kind of man who loved fiercely. He would give anyone the shirt off his back. He would do anything for anyone and did so on numerous occasions. An incredible family man, Ben was devoted to his beautiful wife, Carrie, and his two amazing daughters, Sydney and Ella.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Devastatingly, on the evening of March 21, 2023, Ben tragically passed away while on a business trip in Texas. His family is now faced with the many obstacles that come with the loss of a loved one, including bringing him home to California. Please consider donating to help offset funeral costs and to help Carrie during this unfathomable time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Any amount is greatly appreciated and will go directly to Carrie.

In Loving Memory of Ben Boyd

<div>Hi, my name is Allison, and I'm Ashlynn's cousin. I've gotten my aunt's (Ashlynn's mom) permission to host a GoFundMe to help cover Ashlynn's medical and recovery-related expenses.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On Sunday, August 28, 2022, Ashlynn and her boyfriend of 8+years, Spencer, were hit by a speeding car in a head-on car collision while driving down San Francisquito Canyon. Tragically, Spencer lost his life in the wreck and Ashlynn was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Praise God, Ashlynn is now in stable condition but sustains severe burns and broken bones in her legs, ribs, and arm. She has a long road of recovery ahead.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you know Ashlynn, you know she's as tough as they come. Donate if you're able and keep her and Spencer's family in your prayers.

Help Ashlynn After Car Accident

<div>Hi, my name is Jamie and I am raising funds to help pay for my brother, Spencer’s passing. My hope is to relieve even the smallest burden from my parents while we all grieve his death. On Sunday, 8/28 he and his girlfriend, Ashlynn, were cruising down San Fransisquito Canyon as they often do for a good time, when a speeding vehicle slammed into the driver side door and killed my brother on impact. Ashlynn has been left with two broken legs and severe burns. Anyone who knows these two can tell you that they did absolutely everything together - from the time they woke up in the morning to the time they laid down to sleep. They were inseparable, fiercely passionate, truly one of a kind dreamers and unfortunately it was all taken in the blink of an eye. My brother was the sweetest man you’d ever meet with not a single bad bone in his body and a heart of gold. He never had a bad word for anyone he crossed paths with. He had so much yet to accomplish in this life and we are heartbroken that we won’t get the chance to see him continue to flourish. We kindly ask that you keep our family and Ashlynn in your prayers during this difficult time and we appreciate any donations that you are willing and able to give.

Scott St. Louis is a songwriter first and foremost. He is a singer, guitarist, and performer as well, but  songwriting goes down into his bone marrow. He is also a father and sole provider to young children.  Recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma, is paralyzing to say the least, but with the right treatment, life can be extended several years.<br /><br />Scott has touched many lives in many ways. He has spent the last 19 years of his own personal recovery as a 12-step mentor and sponsor to many, while recovering from alcoholism. Scott devotes countless hours listening and offering experience, strength and hope to help them find a solution to their problems. Speaking to many of those individuals personally, it is evident Scott plays an important role in helping others save their own lives. A group of Scotts friends and I are starting this Go-Fund-Me to help Scott and his family deal with the financial hardship from the past 5 months of him not being able to work, and even more so for the coming months as he begins these cancer treatments. <br /><br /> <br />-- “THE DOCTOR’S OPINION” - by Dr. Steve Severance<br /><br /> <br />I have known Scott St. Louis for going on 20 years, too often as a patient, and always as a very special friend. A troubled childhood in a home with active chemical dependence led to Scott’s early history of chemical dependence, with an initially rocky recovery initiated when his own father entered recovery, followed not too long after by Scott. As is often the case, Scott had initially had periods of sobriety punctuated by relapse, but by 1990, long periods of stable sobriety ensued, and currently he has had almost 20 years of sustained sobriety. More importantly, those twenty years found Scott maturing into a dedicated leader and mentor, often in the role of an recovery sponsor, transforming the lives of multiple young men through the power of his inspiring example and the safe comfort of his unconditional love.<br /><br />Over the past decade Scott was burdened with series of health problems, including an unusual form of chronic colitis, followed by a serious pulmonary embolism (a blood clot to the lungs), and finally three years ago a large malignant melanoma excised from his shoulder, with both the size and the pathologic findings leaving a worrisome uncertainty as to the possibility of recurrence. Unfortunately, this all came to a head on Sept 7 2021 when he was admitted emergently to the hospital with another pulmonary embolism, this time massive enough to be truly life-threatening, and leaving him both short of breath and profoundly weak, both symptoms compounded by the unexpected finding of severe anemia. This was followed shortly after his first hospital discharge by severe abdominal pain, increasing anemia, nearly 30 pounds of weight loss, and more than one ER visit, until, after two painful months, exploratory abdominal surgery revealed a recurrent malignant melanoma obstructing his small intestine and caused his anemia by oozing of blood, likely exacerbated by the blood thinners essential to preventing further clots to the lung.<br /><br />Not long ago metastatic melanoma carried a very poor prognosis. However, within the last decade or so, breakthroughs in both targeted chemotherapy and immunotherapy have greatly improved survival, a widely publicized example found in President Jimmy Carter. However, these treatments are expensive, may be required over long periods of time, are not without side-effects, and are not as of yet one hundred percent effective. Scott is facing this illness at an inopportune time financially.  Six and a half years ago, in large part because of his series of health problems,  he acquired a small farm, and embraced a simpler life, aiming to help both his health and our planet by growing only organic crops and even introducing the self-sustainable, planet friendly process of Aquaponics. However, due to the cost of developing this property as well as the loss of his salaried income (due to closing of local division), this undertaking has thus far yielded a subsistence income at best. Moreover, it has thus far been a one man operation, and four months of disability still ongoing has further compromised his financial status, with uncertainty at present as to how much further disability to expect with whatever treatment is initiated after current ongoing medical evaluation.<br /><br />This is a man who even when bedridden at home continued his mentoring of many by telephone or Zoom; who, weakened by anemia and weight loss struggled to continue as a dedicated father to his two young sons (as opposed to a soccer Mom, he is a hockey Dad!); and who gives us a quintessential example of a life lived with love, tolerance, and now more than ever, courage.<br /><br />I plan to support his likely difficult recovery as generously as possible and hope that you reading this will do the same.<br /><br /><br />Thank you,<br /><br />Stephen Severance<br /><br />--<br /><br /><br />PS: Scott is offering his catalog of music free to anyone who donates, as he feels like people should receive a part of him, if they can afford to help. A digital download link will be sent to the email used for donation.

Help Scott fight so he can keep helping others!

Dear friends and community, <br /><br />On November 20th, around 11:15 pm, Rudy was traveling to work on his motorcycle and he was hit by a car that left the scene. The police have yet to be identified. Devine intervention was in play and a doctor arrived on the scene and applied a tourniquet to his leg, which saved his life as he would have bled out. His bone was exposed, and the femoral artery was severed. This doctor is currently unidentified. Rudy was airlifted to UCLA in critical condition and has undergone several surgeries for his spine, pelvis, shoulder, and both legs, with possibly more to come.  His insurance will only cover some of the cost. <br /><br />Rudy is an amazing young man who has worked hard to be an honest, strong and a moral person. Rudy and Amanda are the first to step in when someone is in need. Rudy is a caregiver for the elderly who works three jobs and has just become a new father on November 1st (three weeks ago).  <br /><br />The love of his life Amanda is Rudy's rock. They have been together since they were 15 and 16 and have just welcomed into the world their beautiful baby daughter. The amount of financial support they need will be overwhelming, so any donation will be greatly appreciated for his recovery will be long and hard. Rudy is a fighter and regained consciousness upon arriving in the ER, he told the nurse "I don't want to die my daughter was just born." Please pray and donate what you can to this extraordinary young man and family.<br /><br />Special thanks to; Lisa, Rowe, Kimberly, Melissa and Craig, Dee and Orion, Diane, all the Escobar siblings and many others for helping us through this difficult time. <br /><br />Updates will come soon. <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/61397179_1637647341191866_r.jpeg" alt="61397179_1637647341191866_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/61397179_1637647469452402_r.jpeg" alt="61397179_1637647469452402_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" />

Help and prayers for Rudy Escobar and his family

<p>Hello, my name is Jimmy and I am starting this fundraiser for my brother Rick and my sister-in-law Jean. They had to evacuate their home last night 18 August due to the Caldor Fire in northern California getting close to their property near Pollock Pines, CA where they live. They found out today that the fire went through and destroyed everything they own, They are both safe and currently staying with family. They will have a long road to recover from the disaster but I am hoping with a little help from family, friends, and caring strangers we can make that journey a little easier for them both. Funds will be used to replaced destroyed household goods, replace a vehicle, and obtain housing. Thank you in advance.

<p>The Burke &amp; Matias family have always given a helping hand to those who they don't know. Sofia Burke is a <strong>nurse that took care of patients with Covid-19</strong> at a nursing home in New Jersey.  She was there when the first wave of Covid-19 hit nursing homes the hardest. She helped patients recover from the virus but also brought comfort to those that took their final breath. <br /><br />Sofia <strong>followed all safety protocols</strong> at work which kept all of her family members safe at home. <br /><br />But a single act of generosity by Sofia's mother changed all of that. Sofia’s mother gave a car ride to an elderly friend who unknowingly was infected. The Covid-19 virus quickly spread into Sofia Burke's 8-member household. From her youngest 2-year-old daughter (Elena) to her oldest member, <strong>Sofia's Father</strong> 93-year-old (Otto) <strong>who died this past week due to Covid-19.</strong> <iframe media_type="0" media_id="39Hr3m19XeQ" class="youtube-replace" title="YouTube video player" style="margin-bottom:20px;width:560px;height:315px;" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/39Hr3m19XeQ/?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="1"></iframe><br /><br />Before Thanksgiving,<strong> all eight members of Sofia’s household had contracted Covid-19.</strong> Sofia's father passed away while both were still in the hospital. Her mother was discharged after spending six days in the hospital. She still needs supplemental oxygen pumps close by. Every other member of the family — Sofia’s brother, her husband, and her three children, ages 2, 6, and 20 are recovering from the after effects of COVID-19.   Her <strong>2-year-old daughter who has diabetes</strong> was taken to the pediatric emergency room with a recurring high fever. She was treated to lower her fever but <strong>Sofia still fears complications.</strong><br /><br />Unfortunately, <strong>Sofia still remains in the hospital</strong> as she is finding it difficult to fight off the virus. She spent Thanksgiving at the hospital away from her family but is still in good spirits.  Sofia wants to <strong>express her gratitude to those people who are helping her and her family: </strong><br /><br />“I want to say thank you to this hospital for everything they have done for me and my family”  “I want to say thank you to all the front-line people working so hard.” (<a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/12/01/covid-19-infects-new-jersey-family-navigates-thanksgiving/6475941002/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">USA Today article</a> ) <br /><br />Please take the time to click on the news coverage links to find out more information about the family and what they're going through. <br /><br />Many of you already know that medical treatments are way too expensive in USA and if you have limited health insurance coverage the burden becomes hard to overcome. We are here to help raise funds for the Burke &amp; Matias's family medical expenses and as well as funeral costs for the passing of Sofia's father. Any remaining funds will be used to help Sofia's mother with her breathing complications and her 2-year-old daughters diabetes treatment expenses. <br /><br />Please keep Sofia and her family in your prayers.  <br /><br />Thank you for your generosity and help!<br /><br />-Friends &amp; Family

Help Nurse Sofia Burke & Matias Funeral & Medical

A job would be best.. He is homeless and needs some help. Maybe we can raise enough for a apartment.

My name is David Doyle and I've known Scott for many years. Living here in Santa Clarita I've put Scott up at my home many times. Scott has always battled with alcohol. He is going into a 30 day rehab. The money raised will be held by myself and used for his living expenses upon release from rehab. If you know anything about alcoholics. Giving them money can be a problem. So I agreed to hold and manage his funds. Again the funds will be used for rent, utilities and living expenses. Clothing and food allowance is part of living expenses. Are long-term goal is to get him working and self supporting.

Be a great apartment manager!!!
Or a self storage manager, he is very clean and organized.

Hi, I'm Shayna, Lori's daughter.  I'm trying to help my mom with the medical expenses she will have to treat her breast cancer.  It is aggressive and spread to her lymphatic system.  She is going to have to go through surgery and treatment  right away to treat and prevent further spread of the cancer.  The medical co-pays for testing and diagnosis have already overwhelmed her savings.  Her surgery will be near the end of October but her husband has been out of work due to the economy and she is the main provider for our whole family of five.  We need to come up with at least five thousand to cover our deductible to get the surgery and she will have to go through about six weeks of post surgery recovery, possibly with chemo.  Anything you can do to help would be a godsend to help us cover the gap and keep us afloat.  Without help she will fall behind on rent and payments and will find it hard to recover.  My mom has been the most positive, giving and loving person to all of us.  She is the light of our family.  Please help us give back to her in her time of need.   We pledge that anything not used for her treatment will be donated to others in need.  I'll follow up with updates to keep you informed of her progress.  Thank you.

LEGAL EXPENSES FUND FOR THE SCV JUNETEENTH ACTIVISTS<br /><br />On Juneteenth (June 19, 2020) several local Santa Clarita BLM youth activists participated in an art protest. They used ages 4+ non-toxic washable paint, the kind used in kindergartens, to write "BLM" on a street during non traffic hours well after midnight. Before they could finish, local LA County Sheriff's deputies arrived, confiscated the washable paint and took the kids' information. Since that night, the sheriffs have begun to search out, arrest, jail and charge two of these youth activists with felonies. There may be outstanding arrest warrants against the other youths. The first activist, a minor, was arrested, jailed and charged with a felony on July 31 (41 days after the art protest). The second, who had just turned 18, was arrested, jailed and charged with a felony on Friday, August 29 (71 days after the art protest).  Neither youth was asked to turn themselves in.  Both were cuffed and arrested at their homes, with the minor while she was home alone with a friend. <br /><br />Incredibly, the arrests came soon after each activist had spoken publicly at an SCV City Council meeting in favor of Black Lives Matter and against racism by local elected city officials. Can these arrests have come as retaliation for the kids' outspokenness? <br /><br />The Juneteenth Activists' trials are set for September and October and we're reaching out to the community in hopes that we can raise funds for the legal defense of the activists involved. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to protect the rights of these youth activists from the overreaching charges.<br /><br />Please help us stand up to this ongoing campaign of harassment and intimidation against local activists!<br /><br />For info, contact: <br />David Barlavi, Esq. <br />(818) [phone redacted] (cell/text)

<div>In May of 2025, Matthew Jay was working at his Trader Joe's job and had to go on medical leave due to his repeated unbearable back pain. After many appointments, x-rays, CT Scans and MRI's, it was determined that he had significant damage to his spine and required spinal fusion to restore his back so he could return to his job...which he loved dearly. If you know Matt, you know he has THE Trader Joe's personality.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Matt's story, which many of you know, includes a an incredible spirit and recovery from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body and a lived experience that many view as a "miracle".

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>On December 8, Matt had a planned spinal fusion which resulted in his not being able to walk immediately post surgery. He had an emergency secondary surgery to address the paralysis which unfortunately did not change the outcome. Subsequently, he was transferred from hospital to an inpatient rehabilitation program for intense physical therapy and occupational therapy. At this time, the Dr. and Treatment team cannot tell us anything with the exception that there is nothing presenting on both the new CT Scan or MRI indicating spinal cord damage but as of now, they are treating this as a spinal injury.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Many who know Matt believe he will absolutely recover from this due to his perseverance, his strong spirit and his commitment to living a spiritual and sober life. I am one of those people.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Matt is scheduled to come home on December 31. He will have spent 3 weeks in rehabilitation with little to no real progress to speak of. This is still 2 weeks away which gives us much hope.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>As the world would have it, he was informed on Monday that he will no longer have health insurance as of 12/31/2025, due to not working the number of hours required to be eligible for health insurance through Trader Joe's.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>We are at an absolute loss as to how to manage this new plot twist. We have depended upon Matt's wonderful insurance to heal us both this year as I had spine surgery in January of this year. I continue to have upcoming tests, procedures, and physical therapy to address my lumbar spinal problems which resurfaced after being attacked by a neighbor's dog in April.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>We are going to opt to pay for COBRA at a cost of approximately $1500 per month (a $1300 increase from what we have been paying through Matt's job for the same insurance) due to needing the same level of care, a less stressful transition with Matt coming home and needing a significant amount of daily care from PT and OT as well as all of the other needs of a person who is confined to a wheelchair.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>As a business owner, I do not have sick time, vacation time or any other protections for such a big and unexpected event such as my husband not being able to walk or care for himself in many ways. If I don't work, we don't have a home. I do have Family Leave available to me but the amount of money that is provided by that does not even cover our mortgage.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>We will begin the long and arduous process of applying for Disability and every other social program that Washington has to offer. We have a wonderful Social Worker and Case Manager who are helping to get this ball rolling.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>In the short-term, Matt coming home challenges me to make our 2 story home somewhat ADA accessible. This will not be a small task as well live in a community with an HOA that will not make this an easy process for us. Our home has steps just to get in (all 3 ways) which means we must put in a ramp in some way that is up to HOA standard but not necessarily permanent. This requires hiring a company to do this.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>We do not know how long this will take for Matt to learn to walk again and if Matt will actually even walk again. His getting retrained for a new job at 58 years old will be difficult but not impossible and he is ready to look at options for that. Personally I am hoping he can get a remote job selling cruises so we have a perk when the time comes.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>So, we are going to GoFundMe to offset some these new and unexpected costs and are hoping to reach far and wide so as to not create hardship for anyone who wants to contribute to this.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>We will update as things progress and pray for more miracles hourly. Please feel free to pray, light candles, come sage the state of Washington (as we have both had injuries since the day after we moved here.) We still love Washington and hope Washington will love us once again.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart and soul.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>
