<div>Colon Cancer doesn't discriminate and is now the LEADING cause of cancer-related death for men under 50 and the second leading cause for women under 50. In fact, it continues to be on the rise, nearly 3% every year. This according to <a href="https://www.cancerresearch.org/blog/colorectal-cancer-awareness-month#:~:text=Even%252520more%252520concerning%25252C%252520cases%252520of,what%252520you%252520need%252520to%252520know." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the Cancer Research Institute</a>.

<div>This is the case that has shook our family. The Chicago Bears did an unimaginable 4th quarter comeback defeating the Minnesota Vikings that November Sunday. Bears winning 19-17 - a game I will never forget - not because of the time expiring field goal but because the next day, on our drive home, Laura got the call, it was cancer.

<div>When you think about what you were doing on that November Sunday, the buzz of the holidays approaching. It wasn't that long ago. Laura made a deal with her son, he can go to his FIRST ever Vikings game and she was going to figure out a way to pay for his Florida orchestra trip in February 2027 but he had to make some sacrifices as well, a much smaller Christmas. Laura made the first payment to the Orchestra trip for her son, my nephew and 11 days later, the phone call came. Colon Cancer.

<div>Now, Laura and her family are making the ultimate sacrifice, battling stage III colon cancer. December 26th she had her PITA tumor resected, shortly after was the port, more testing and then started chemo. Six
</div>
<div>months, twelve cycles, 36 days of chemo. It wasn't just a smaller Christmas but the start of survival. Rather then paying the budget plan for my nephews orchestra trip but she is forced now to make all of the copays, the buses, cabs, trains, prescriptions and well, life, with <strong>TWO </strong>teenage boys.

<div>She is lucky and thankful as she has great health insurance coverage but all of the little things add up when you miss a few hours of pay and trying to save/pay for a Florida trip her son has been working for since he was 8.
</div>

<div>It costs roughly $55 a month for Laura to take the train (that is if no one goes with her to her treatment).
</div>
<div>Buses, cabs add up too, depending on the chemo schedule.
</div>
<div>Prescriptions - yikes!

<div>Every day cost of living, hard for us all, we know.
</div>
<div>Her other son continues to work 20 hours a week while finishing up his junior year of high school, so he can pay off his car maintenance debt and have a car to drive to help his mom with the little things, like driving his brother or running to the store. It all adds up.

<div>We, as a family, are doing what we can to assist. I know for Laura, every penny gets accounted for and is gone just about the same day it hits the account. The family has sacrificed a lot. I would love nothing more then to get my nephew on his orchestra trip, my other nephew's car fixed and a month coverage of train rides for my sister during her FIGHT with stage III colon cancer.

<div>2/22/24- Audra took her last breath today. She was with her husband, Anthony and Erik. I know in my heart that my Dad and Brother were there to receive her. A million thanks to all that sent emails, texts, food and support for our family.

<div>Audra continues to fight, I’m not surprised she would prove hospice wrong! It’s day five on hospice, and It’s hard to watch her slowly pull away from us. Her breathing is shallow and her urine is changing to orange. She’s started taking morphine but she looks very peaceful. I honestly pray for a cure for this. Even if she can’t be the one to get it, I pray no one else goes through it. All of your support for Ken, the kids and us are keeping are spirits up. You may think you don’t want to “bother” us. You aren’t! You’re keeping us distracted from her fate and we very much appreciate you. ~ Erika

<div>The outpouring of support and love shown for Audra only shows how much she was loved. We are forever grateful for all of the generosity you have shown for Ken &amp; Audra. Audra, was taken home on hospice Friday, February 16th 2024. That day, the hospice nurse told us she had three days. Today, is day three and by gods grace, she is still here. She is surrounded by her husband, family and friends, pretty much all day. She of course is continuing to fight, just like we knew she would.

<div>on January 8th she started showing signs of a possible stroke and over the last 5 weeks has progressively gotten worse despite all treatments she has been given. Our hearts are broken.

<div>Yesterday we were given the CJD diagnosis and told she has 1 to 3 weeks to live. If you know Audra, you know she is a tough cookie and she has been just as tough throughout this entire process. However, fate has given her no chance.

<div>Audra and Ken have spent the last 33 years together, never apart. They have raised 6 boys and have three beautiful grandchildren.

<div>Audra has been in ICU for 14 days and is being put on hospice care, tomorrow. The kids and I would like to ask for your support in helping Ken through not only losing his life long “person” but to help him not suffer through medical expenses after.

<div>Hi, My name is Melissa. I'm hoping to find good souls to help keep this lovely couple from losing their home. 3 months ago, Jorge lost his job. Jorge has been living in the US for over 30 years. He has had a work permit, has paid his taxes and even has contributed to Social Security his entire time in the US. After losing his job, Jorge has not been able to find work. He has applied to dozens and dozens of places but most places won't hire him with out having the paperwork to be an official US citizen. His english isn't very good and he struggles to learn English. Because of this difficultly, he is not able to take the test to become a US citizen. This leaves him with NO INCOME and NO FAMILY INSURANCE. His wife, Ingar has been my babysitter for 9 years. She has become a huge part of my family of 2. (Me and my son) They are incredibly kind, considerate, loyal and have faith in God. Jorge has been turned down for work because he lacks citizenship and has been told he's too old to be hired. He's 55. He is the MOST honest and hard working man. I can NOT sit back and watch them continue to get buried in bills and lose the home they bought years ago. They still have a mortgage to pay, electrical bills, mortgage taxes, a gas bill, phone bills, car insurance, etc. WE ALL know how incredibly hard life can be. While I would LOVE for someone to offer this man a job, it hasn't happened and they need the funds so they don't end up on the street. They also have a new grandchild. The father wanted nothing to do with the new baby and they are now helping to raise him. The list goes on and on. Please help me save a family from losing their home. It's people like Jorge and Ingar that make the world a better place and I'm praying we can all pull together to help keep their heads above water. PLEASE PLEASE, PASS THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. I have faith we can do this and to help the people who contribute to society in a positive way. Thank you!!

PLEASE HELP THEM FROM LOSING THEIR HOME

On 03-15-18, our friend and coworker Dominick Koss (pictured 3rd from right) was admitted to Centegra Hospital in Huntley with influenza B and pneumonia. Upon recieving treatment, Dom's condition quickly worsened. Dom has been admitted to the intensive care unit and has been listed in critical condition. Dom is only 22 years old and was in very good shape.  Though Dom has a strong showing of support from his friends and family, there is a tremendous amount of recovery awaiting him. Dom chose a career in public service because he wanted to help people. Please join me in helping him and saying, "thank you."
