<div>Many of you know that my parent's house burned down Sunday afternoon. Dad was grilling steaks - on a concrete pad away from the house. But some grease caught fire and landed on some dry leaves that immediately blew under the deck. The deck caught fire and then it spread to the house. It was just a freak thing.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Both mom and dad are fine. Dad has a few burn blisters on his arm, but neither suffered from any smoke inhalation.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The house is a total loss along with everything in it. We will be digging through it this week to see if we can find pictures and sentimental items - but everything is covered in smoke and drenched in water.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The town they live in has been absolutely amazing. Item donations and meal trains are being planned. The church that dad retired from has offered to let them move back into the parsonage, so they will be moving back into their old home later this week.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I know many of you are asking how to help. While they have insurance it takes a few days to process. In the meantime, we are having to replace everything. (Mom didn't even have shoes on when she left the house.) If you live outside of Monticello, feel free to donate here.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you're in Monticello, the church set up a special account through Greenwoods Bank that you can donate to. You just have to tell the bank it's for the Balleine benefit account. You can also reach out to Zwingli UCC to help with the meal train and other donations.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I'll continue to post updates. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers!

<div>Generations of kids have spent many a snowy winter day sledding down "Killer Hill" next to Candy Cane Park in New Glarus. Although the park is owned by the Village, the sledding hill is privately owned and was recently for sale. Our goal is to raise funds to keep it as a permanent public sledding hill and greenspace.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>“New Glarus Cares” Community Foundation, Inc. was organized late last year to raise funds to support the purchase of the greenspace near Candy Cane Park including the sledding hill, which was listed for sale by Shepherd of the Hills Church. New Glarus Cares is partnering with Only in Wisconsin Giving Foundation, the charitable arm of New Glarus Brewing Company, which has generously agreed to match our fundraising efforts.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We need to raise $75,000 total with another $75,000 in matching donations, for a total of $150,000. We have already raised over $40,000 through donations made directly at the Bank of New Glarus and through our website, NewGlarusCares.com! We would also like to thank those "offline" donors:

Save Candy Cane Hill in New Glarus, Wisconsin!

<div>A very unforeseen tragedy struck our community last night, very unexpected. With the permission of the Lara family I am asking for our community’s assistance in this time of need. The family is still in disbelief and devastated from losing their two older sons Isacc and Adrian. Both boys where becoming amazing young men and will be dearly missed. Please keep their family in your thoughts and prayers and we sincerely thank you for anything and everything.

Funeral and memorial for Isacc and Adrian(Nono)

<div>Hi, my name is Ruben Rodriguez, and I am starting this Go Fund Me on behalf of the Lopez Cisneros Family with their permission. We are asking the community for donations to cover the funeral and memorial expenses for Linnete and Yanitza. The family is devastated by losing both daughters in last night's accident. The least of their worries should be the financial burden that comes with all this. Linette and Yanitza were two wonderful loving daughters that all family and friends will greatly miss. It's times like this that, as a community, we must come together to help this family in these trying times. On behalf of the Lopez Cisneros family, THANK YOU. Let's keep them all in our prayers, and God Bless you all!
