 On Wednesday August 26th, my daughter Tai was taken by ambulance to Sunrise children’s hospital with what turned out two be two large pulmonary embolisms very close to her heart.

 We are currently recovering treatment that will include surgery today, a hospital stay until at least Monday, significant recovery times, possibly rehab, and a number of outpatient follow ups. Her dad and I are here with her in the hospital for as long as we need.
</div>

 Because she is only 17 and this not a normal happening for someone so young, after her emergency treatment is done, there will be many follow-ups with specialists including interventional radiology, hematology and more, depending on what test results show us.
</div>

 We are asking for help with a few things:

<div>Helmine is starting this fundraiser for the <strong>Kasdorf-Vega family</strong>: Cristiane, Chris, and their 17-year-old daughter, Milo. Right now, they are facing an incredibly difficult and frightening season as Milo is seriously ill with a rare and highly complex medical condition. Over the past two months, the family has been to several hospitals and spent weeks at UCLA, all while living with the uncertainty of an unknown and complicated prognosis. There is still no clear timeframe for when Milo may be able to come home. Even in the middle of all of this, Milo’s sweet and caring spirit continues to shine. She recently spent her 17th birthday at UCLA, and while going through so much herself, she wanted to put together goodie bags to share with other children in the hospital.

<div> Cristiane and Chris have stayed by Milo’s side while continuing to work and manage life’s responsibilities from afar. With limited family support nearby, they are carrying a tremendous emotional and financial burden. They have already faced major out-of-pocket costs, including an ambulance, along with weeks of expenses for lodging, gas, food, and parking. Although they are now staying at a Ronald McDonald House after being on a waitlist, many costs continue to add up every day.
