Hi folks. Po has now undergone a second transfusion for a SECOND time in as many days. We went ahead and approved a bone marrow biopsy and await cytology results to rule out cancer and nonregenerative anemia. Both seriously life threatening. He is fighting. And it’s expensive - already double our original target and climbing. We are fighting with him. He’s only 2!!
PO IS ALIVE ! ❤️‍ Three blood transfusion's. A race against time. And a little life that nearly slipped away. Meet Po ❤️ A sweet, 3 year old Pug, rescued from a backyard breeder confiscation and now a cherished member of the Animal Rescue Consortium family. Po was safe in foster care, loved and finally getting the life he deserved. Then, without warning, he began collapsing. Not stumbling. Not losing his balance. Simply keeling over, without warning. It was TERRIFYING. After two days of these frightening episodes, we brought Po to our longtime veterinarian for an examination. He observed horizontal nystagmus - involuntary eye movement, raising concerns about a possible neurological or seizure related condition. A full blood panel was ordered, and Po was sent home with Keppra while we awaited the results. Then came the phone call that stopped us in our tracks. Our veterinarian, a man we’ve trusted and worked alongside for DECADES, called with an urgency in his voice that we’d rarely heard. GET PO TO AN EMERGENCY HOSPITAL. IMMEDIATELY!” When we asked why, his answer was chilling. HE COULD DIE AT ANY MINUTE! Po’s red blood cell count was catastrophically low. His little body was in crisis. There was no time to waste. Po was rushed from the far reaches of Long Island to one of the finest emergency and diagnostic veterinary hospitals in the lower Hudson Valley. The medical team went straight to work. ❤️‍ Critical care and stabilization ❤️‍ Immunosuppressive therapy ❤️‍ Blood transfusions ❤️‍ Anticoagulant treatment ❤️‍ Intensive monitoring and supportive care And we prayed. **ONE TRANSFUSION.** **TWO TRANSFUSIONS** **THREE TRANSFUSIONS.** ❤️ **PO SURVIVED.** ❤️ Our little boy fought his way back. We were told that without the rapid intervention of our extraordinary veterinarian, Po might not have survived another TWO HOURS. Two hours. Think about that. **EXPERIENCE. INSTINCT. WISDOM. AND A VETERINARIAN WHO KNEW SOMETHING WAS TERRIBLY WRONG.** That is what saved Po’s life. Today, our little warrior is preparing to leave the hospital, alive and once again surrounded by love. His recovery and medical needs will continue, but he has been given something priceless. **A SECOND CHANCE** And now we need your help. This extraordinary effort to save one little life has taken a substantial toll on ARC’s emergency medical fund — the very fund that allows us to say YES when the next desperate animal needs immediate, lifesaving care. We never want the decision to save a life to come down to whether we can afford to try. **PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A DONATION** No amount is too small. Every dollar helps replenish the resources that saved Po and will be needed to save the next animal whose life hangs in the balance. Po survived because people cared enough to act Help us be there for the next Po❤️ From all of us at The Animal Rescue Consortium, and from one very lucky little Pug — THANK YOU FOR HELPING US KEEP THEM OUT OF THE SYSTEM❤️ Together, we save more PLEASE DONATE AND SHARE PO’S STORY❤️
Thanks everyone for helping this guy back to health and love❤️ He’s currently on IV meds and fluids. He was SEVERELY dehydrated. He is in fact clinically blind. His hearing is being tested at moment and it’s not clear if his inability to see is a contributing factor. His atrophy is thankfully responding to IV fluids. Bloodwork and Ultrasound results today. It’s amazing how a SIMPLE NAIL TRIM made a difference for him. He lived in pain and fear. Again, SO MANY thanks for your kindness here. For more updates please watch STORIES on our Instagram page❤️‍

We named him CASPER Last night we received a plea from who Tony refers to as one of the OG’s of the animal welfare movement, his dear friend and fierce animal welfare networker Steve Pryor, about a very compromised Bull Terrier that he and his team had opportunity to secure DUMPED at a Queens Precinct. There were two dogs. Casper was left behind because his condition seemed grave. He is thought to be both Deaf and Blind AND SEVERLY ABUSED. He was kept in a kennel for prolonged hours a day, has developed severe disuse muscle atrophy in all four limbs, has scars and lacerations consistent with beatings and is showing signs of deep medical distress. Our teams have conjoined in an effort to save Casper’s life - AND KEEP HIM OUT OF THE SYSTEM! Our boy is thought to be 6 years young and BEYOND SWEET. THEY ARE SO FORGIVING. Will you help? We will ONLY ask when we know his care will eclipse more than a general veterinary intervention. Clearly, we see it More to follow, and thank you always for your loving support of these animals.
Tonight we got a call about a dog dumped at Engine 59 in Harlem. Her name is Zoe. Tony is heading to the vet (VEG) now to get her evaluated and stabilized. What we know right now is enough to know this is serious. Zoe has injuries consistent with prolonged trauma and likely needs stitches. We won’t know the full extent until the vets clean her wounds and keep her overnight. Right now, she will be hospitalized for at least the next few days while we figure out what comes next. She needs immediate medical care. And we need to be ready for whatever that looks like. This is where your support changes everything. Emergency intake, wound care, hospitalization, medication, and whatever treatment follows — it adds up fast. Saying yes to dogs like Zoe only happens because people step in with us. If you can donate toward Zoe’s care, please do. If you can’t, sharing her story matters just as much. We’ll share updates on Instagram as soon as we know more. #RescueDog #DogRescue #EmergencyVetCare #AnimalRescue #SaveZoe #SupportAnimalRescue #FightForDogs #DogRecovery
Help Save KaKashi: A Beloved Dog Fighting for His Life We recently received a call regarding a suspected animal neglect situation involving a dog named KaKashi in Bushwick. A concerned neighbor had seen him in his yard and was alarmed by how thin he appeared, prompting a report of possible neglect. Alongside the NYPD, we responded to investigate the situation. What we found was far more nuanced and heartbreaking than it first appeared. KaKashi's owner, who has been fully cooperative and willingly accepting our help, loves him deeply. She took KaKashi in after his previous owners separated and has done everything she could to care for him. Unfortunately, KaKashi became seriously ill, and the mounting veterinary expenses quickly became overwhelming—a situation all too familiar to many loving pet owners. Far too often, financial hardship becomes the reason animals are surrendered, abandoned, or left without the medical care they desperately need. KaKashi's owner never stopped trying. She simply ran out of resources. At this time, we suspect KaKashi may be suffering from severe internal medical issues, and we are holding onto hope that his diagnosis is not cancer. Tony is currently at the veterinary hospital with KaKashi as doctors work to determine the cause of his condition. Diagnostic testing, treatment, medications, and a possible hospital stay are expected to be costly. We are asking for your support to help give sweet KaKashi the chance he deserves. Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward his veterinary care and treatment. Financial distress should never be the reason an animal suffers, and while we are saddened by the current state of veterinary affordability, we are committed to doing everything we can to help KaKashi heal. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser to help us reach more people. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting KaKashi, his owner, and the belief that every animal deserves compassionate care and a fighting chance. ❤️ Thank you for helping us save KaKashi.
