<div>Recently, while trying to collect food from American aid convoys — which many here bitterly call “the aid of humiliation” — my younger brother was shot in the hand. He was targeted while simply trying to bring food home. To receive any aid, we often walk 7 kilometers under dangerous conditions. And when we’re lucky enough to return with something, it’s not uncommon for desperate individuals or armed thieves to steal what little we have.

Wie bei allen Kindern fallen viele Gebühren an wie Kleidung, Schulgebühren, Schulsachen, essen, trinken und alles was Kinder benötigen zum Leben.

<div>This wonderful family of nine consists of Photojournalist Mohammed, Shahd, and their seven children: Dana, 14; Alma, 13; Tina, 12; Maria, 9; and the twins, Adi and Amr, both 4, along with their youngest, Tim, who is just 3. Like many families in Gaza, they were abruptly forced from their home, leaving behind everything except the clothes they were wearing. Tragically, the area they believed to be safe was later struck by an airstrike, resulting in the loss of Shahd's sister and aunt. In distinct moments of sorrow, Mohammed also experienced the heartbreaking loss of his cherished older brother Photojournalist Samer Abu Daqqa.

<div>After that Mohammed took it upon himself to ensure his family's safety, spending every last dollar on exorbitant application fees to facilitate their escape, which amounted to $5,000 for adults and $2,500 for children, totaling $22,000. Unfortunately, this sum did not cover the additional costs associated with his evacuation.

<div>As of now, Mohammed remains in Gaza, and the current cost for his evacuation would be around $15,000, contingent upon the reopening of the Rafah crossing, which was destroyed in May 2024. There is no clear timeline for when it might reopen for those who can afford to leave safely.

<div>At this moment, the family has lost everything in Gaza. Their beloved home has been reduced to rubble, along with their vehicles and cherished pets. All the familiar comforts and loved ones have been taken from them. Meanwhile, Shahd is left to care for their seven children alone, waiting for the day they can be reunited. The situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, and we are nearing the one-year mark of this crisis. While we remain hopeful for Mohammed's safe passage, the harsh reality is that no one can leave, and safety feels increasingly elusive.

I am the youngest unit in the family, but I am the one who takes care of them because my father cannot work. My mother is an elderly woman who suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure. She needs a laser operation. Recently, my mother broke her leg due to the lack of lighting because there has been no electricity in the northern Gaza Strip since October 7th. I don't have the money to provide her with medicine. The price doubled. My father is old and suffers from a stroke in his leg, and he is unable to walk well. We don't have money. We did not receive any financial assistance. We don't have a battery or solar power to get light and charge my cell phone. I go great distances to charge my phone in the street. I suffer from malnutrition due to the lack of healthy food, and if it is available, it is at exorbitant prices. We cannot buy it. In the north, specifically, we suffered two months before the famine, which means that we were unable to obtain white flour due to high levels of food. Its price. We ate animal feed. We have not eaten healthy food since the beginning of the war. I suffer from stress and fear as a result of insecurity. Also, after I lost my brother in the war, my psychological state worsened.

So I am ready to leave a land which was once my home in the hope that my children have life and one day we can return. But if they have no life no land will satisfy me.

<div>Secondary to relentless bombing and terror inflicted on innocent civilians our big piece of heaven was reduced to ashes. A home, our memories, our treasured heaven turned to hell. <div>We had so many beautiful memories, I built my house with so much love so much care. Blood sweat and tears went into laying down every brick. All of the love and effort taken from us in seconds. All we feel now is a gut wrenching heartache, fatigue and abandonment. Homelessness is not the only issue, fighting the elements and living in tents would be ok for me but I live in an extended family. My family include, my mother, my brother and his family all of them lived in this house. A total of fifteen people and 3 generations.

<div>Seven of my family members are under the age of twelve. Can you imagine a childhood of death devastation and destruction and having nowhere to call home. No bed to lie your head on, no home to call your own, to protect you from the cold and rain. Unfortunately we do not need to imagine because this is our reality.

<div>We had the nicest time, in our house, our home, our heaven. There we cooked, played, celebrated birthdays. My two children were born in our heavenly home both of my children have had to witness their whole neighbourhood destroyed, their schools bombed, their homes not only destroyed but then ravaged and pillaged by snipers who took their toys and laughed and played with them.

<div>Living through a massacre a war for a child is pain enough but to then be further robbed of a home is the most gut wrenching feeling anyone could ever imagine. We are living this nightmare.

<div>Today we are all in a tent in a shelter. We feel cold every night, exposed to the elements this winter we have all been sick and suffered from illness after illness.
</div>

<div>We are all lost without our home and this bitterness of loss will remain painted on our hearts. Those bricks had spirits that carried our beautiful memories. Every brick in it carried a story, a novel of love kindness care and unity of our family. We know it's just bricks stone and mortar that can be built at some point but when you live this reality and see what we have seen you will understand a new house can be built but will it feel like a home, will those bricks carry our old memories. The answer is no. Even if we build a new house we lose .

<div>Today I say enough is enough. I do not want my children my family those I love to suffer the same dire fate that so many innocent civillians have. I cannot bare to watch my babies die or suffer the trauma of losing us. They have seen as children what war veterans are afraid to see. A lifetime of therapy won’t cure what they have gone through and witnessed. So I’m not allowing them to see any more.

<div>I am trying to evacuate my family. Because of the frenzied war on Gaza. My family, which consists of fifteen members, half of whom are children, has been displaced again and again from one house to the next from tent to tent and often with hardly any clothes no food no winter wear.

<div>From time to time, we move from one place to another in search of safety. Safety does not exist only terror, death, destruction, starvation and war torn land. No love no hope and pure devastation.

<div>Safety ceases to exist in Gaza. Therefore, we are now looking for a place outside Gaza to find a spec of safety for the rest of our lives maybe we can have some moments of peace that may undo what we have gone through. May be undo it a little or just enough so that we don’t have nightmares of death and worry every moment that this will be our last.

<div>Perhaps we will not have enough time to leave. Perhaps this is a wasted effort as at any moment ITF could raid Rafah and we will be exposed to death or worse injury with no medicine anaesthetic or hospitals. Unfortunately a fate worse than death.

<div>My name is Adli Mohammed Mostafa Abu Taha. I’ve been a freelance journalist since 2013. Currently, I am a correspondent for Al Kuffeyeh Channel in Gaza since 2017.

<div>With the beginning of the war on Gaza, I’ve worked for a number of channels (Al-Jazeera, Al-Sharq, CBC) as a preparer of reports and stories. I need to evacuate my family which includes me (33), my wife (26), my baby boy Zein (4 months) and my mother who suffers from high blood pressure (60).

<div>I’ve been through 6 wars in Gaza from years 2008 to the 2023 genocidal massacre which is still ongoing; I’ve also been through the Aqsa Intifada from years 2000 to 2005.

<div>Since the beginning of this genocide on Gaza, the journalists have been facing a major threat and many of my colleagues have unfortunately been martyred for no reason other than wanting to tell their story to the world. The highest price you can pay for free speech, and they and their family paid it.

<div>Personally, I sustained a hand injury while I was covering one of the attacks on a residential building. My house has been partially destroyed as well due to a nearby attack it is currently inhabitable despite a few walls still standing. I lost many of my relatives and friends and this is why I have decided to evacuate. I decided to evacuate to protect my family and child, the child I was blessed with on the 4th day of the genocide on 11-10-2023. He’s 4 months old now and I fear for my family that is surrounded by the sounds of death and destruction. These funds will be used to evacuate my family across the border to Egypt.

<div>My mental health is in tatters and to be honest I do not think I will ever recover after the atrocities I have seen laid before my eyes. My families mental health is obliterated and it’s getting worse by the day, not to mention my mother who is seriously sick and needs treatment and special care for a multitude of illnesses. I need to protect them from the threat of death especially after the announcement of the possible ground invasion on Rafah, which is where I reside. We have limited time a matter of days possibly a week who knows. So I need your help so I can start hoping again as currently I have little faith in the humanity help me restore it by saving my young family. We have committed no crime no sin apart from being Palestinian. So please help in giving my family a hope of a future without disease, starvation, massacres and bombs.

Emergency Evacuation - Journalist Adli & Family

<div> Zuzu, Zoe, and Kate are currently raising funds to assist a 24-year-old Palestinian in evacuating Gaza. Gaza is currently under siege, and our friend Omar finds himself stranded in the South alone, facing numerous challenges. He struggles to access basic necessities such as food, given soaring prices and an inability to work amid these dire circumstances.

<div>In 2008, he sustained severe injuries, including burn wounds, during previous conflicts. With local hospitals either nonfunctional or overwhelmed with new casualties, Omar is unable to receive the ongoing medical care he desperately needs near his home. In light of these circumstances, the aim is to raise sufficient funds to facilitate Omar's safe passage to Egypt. He believes it is no longer safe for him to remain in the South, as was communicated previously.

<div>The collected funds will be deposited into a US bank account and subsequently transferred to his account. These funds will be utilized to meet Omar's basic needs  as well as for evacuation purposes. The money will be sent to pay a travel agency in Egypt, which will coordinate Omar's evacuation. Furthermore, once Omar can cross the border, the funds will cover his accommodation while seeking ongoing medical treatment.

I cannot reach it and take pictures of the rubble; it is because of the presence of tanks and Ahandtalal soldiers in the area where I live.
