The clinic at Taksindu Monastery is wrapped up! Over three and a half very full days, about 350 patients made their way here despite cyclone-spawned rains that closed roads and kept us all a bit soggy and mud spattered, but determined and focused as well. Fellow volunteer Gretchen and I tag-teamed in the “physical doctoring” room. Lots of knees and backs, plus sciatic pain, arthritis, migraines, club feet, shoulder pain, sprained ankles… an amazing range of issues, and amazingly receptive people. Tonight we’re celebrating with the Nepali medical staff, volunteers, and support team who made the clinic happen. Tired, content, and inspired.
After a couple of days walking up to Taksindu Monastery in the rain, we had our first day of clinic! 84 people served today, including lots of elders with knee pain, some stroke-related spasticity, and a very enthusiastic welcome from the novice monks! Just getting started.
Yesterday’s shopping in Kathmandu: 65 monk-red hats, 65 pairs of socks, 25 soccer balls, and a lot more supplies for Taksindu Monastery. That’s fellow volunteer Gretchen showing off one of the hats. We also met with the president and officers of the monastery’s fundraising committee and delivered the direct financial support. Thank you to all of you who contributed! Today we start our journey to the village for the medical clinic. A cyclone is spinning rain our way… fingers crossed! We’ll post more on Instagram and Facebook: @tilluchau #TaksinduMonastery #Nepal #Kathmandu
We’re off to Nepal! Flying out tonight, arriving Kathmandu Tuesday We’ve closed the fundraiser after an incredibly gratifying response…thanks to you we exceeded our goals:-).
