She organized, advocated, marched, and stood beside countless families fighting for dignity and justice. When our community needed leaders willing to sacrifice, Alejandra stepped up to the plate. She even participated in a hunger strike, putting her own well-being on the line for a cause she believed in so deeply.

<div>But beyond her activism, anyone who knows Ale, knows her heart.

<div>She has a way of making every person she meets feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. Her kindness is genuine. Her energy is contagious. She gives without expecting anything in return, and she has touched so many lives simply by being herself.

Although the treatment was very expensive, due to its kind he had to undergo it. He spent many days in the hospital, enduring severe pain and symptoms amidst great uncertainty. He had to miss work on several occasions and, due to his health condition, lost his job. Thanks to God and the doctors, the treatment is working, giving us hope and confidence in God. However, medical expenses continue to rise and more treatment is needed to treat his cancer. We humbly ask for your support in covering his medical costs. <div>The <strong>Soccer, Skills and Fundamentals (SSF) </strong>U9 team has earned something special—we’re heading to the <strong>National Futsal Tournament in Richmond, Virginia (July 3–6, 2026)</strong>!

<div>We qualified as one of the top two teams at the <strong>North Regional Futsal Tournament </strong>in Minneapolis this January, competing against strong teams from across the Midwest. For a <strong>first-ever regional appearance</strong>, this was no small feat.

<div>Originally from Oaxaca and based in Minnesota, Gabe always carried with him the pride of his land, his culture, and his people. Through his creativity, his style, and his way of engaging with the community, he managed to keep the essence of his origins alive, even far from home.

<div>From Minneapolis, he shared cultural expressions such as folk art, alebrijes, Day of the Dead celebrations, and other traditions that are part of the Oaxacan identity, becoming a bridge between his roots and the migrant community in Minnesota.

Trigger Warning: We have decided to share some photos of my father after the attack to demonstrate the scope of his injuries. <br /><br />Advertencia de Provocación: Hemos decidido compartir algunas fotos de mi padre después del ataque para demostrar el grado de sus heridas.<br /><br />On Monday, May 17, while working, my father was viciously attacked by a man in the building he cleans. This facility is a residence for those dealing with mental health issues and chemical dependency. He has cleaned this building for eight years and has built a friendly relationships with many of the residents and staff. My father is a hard working man who has spent many years doing his best to make ends meet for my younger sister and me, especially after the passing of our mother two years ago. <br /><br />The man who attacked my father has verbally and physically harassed him on multiple occasions prior to the events on May 17. Many of his comments were antagonistic, degrading, and violent. The management of this facility was aware of a prior incident in which this assailant assaulted my father and forcibly removed his bike from him. After taking his bike, the assailant proceeded to taunt him and demand my father clean up after him. This proceeded for some time before the police arrived and finally returned my father’s bike. My father was assured by management that this man would not be back.<br /><br />This incident could have been avoided. At some point, the assailant was allowed to come back to the facility. Two weeks prior to May 17, the assailant had threatened to kill my father. On the day of the incident, the assailant blindsided and attacked my father with no provocation. While repeatedly hitting my father in the head, the assailant shouted that he would kill him. By the grace of God, someone finally intervened and stopped the unprovoked and vicious attack. <br /><br />Though this assailant might have mental health issues, this incident is unacceptable. My father was simply at work doing his job when this occurred. He did nothing wrong and never became combative or aggressive in previous encounters with the assailant, despite the assailant’s continued harassment and abuse. We are especially disappointed with the management of this facility. They were aware of previous incidents and the assailant’s violent history. Their negligence and blatant disregard for my father’s wellbeing paved the way for this horrible incident. The assailant threatened my father’s life, degraded and intimidated him, and physically assaulted him. My family will not allow this to be brushed under the rug.<br /><br />Due to my father’s immigration status, he remained silent in the past out of fear. My father’s fear is one that many Latinos and other undocumented people feel. Undocumented people exist on the margins of society and are often exploited and abused. When incidents like this occur, their pain and suffering is often minimized or ignored. We must protect those most vulnerable in our community. With a rise in xenophobia and violence, the undocumented community needs advocates now more than ever.<br /><br />Due to the emotional and physical toll this has taken on my father, he is taking some time from work to heal. My family is asking for financial support through the month of June and contributions to get a good lawyer. <br /><br /><br /><br /><br />El lunes 17 de mayo, mientras trabajaba, mi padre fue brutalmente atacado por un hombre en el edificio que limpia. Esta instalación es una residencia para quienes se enfrentan a problemas de salud mental y dependencia química. Help Undocumented Father After Brutal Assault

My wife Aurora now rests in peace with God. She passed away today in the early morning of Sunday July 19th 2020. I have faith in God that she is with him and has moved on to better life.  We will forever miss her and remember her for the strong, loving and caring person she was. I appreciate all of your prayers and well wishes since day one. Also, your donations will definitely help lessen the burden on my family with the expected funeral expenses and help me spend time grieving and caring for our three children- Aurora,  Andy and Andrea. God Bless.<br /><br />More on Aurora Chacon Esparza’s Journey: <br /><br />Aurora was 7 months pregnant, the first week of June she began to have symptoms and went to take the COVID-19 test, she came out negative but the symptoms continued. Aurora called her primary doctor and was told to stay home, that sometimes the tests are not accurate. The days passed and she began to feel more ill, on Sunday June 14th  she could not take it anymore and went to the hospital where she was admitted immediately. The days passed the symptoms worsened and was then sedated and intubated on Friday June 19th . On Tuesday, June 23rd, her oxygen became very low and a c-section was required to save both of their lives. She delivered the baby while she was on the ventilator,fortunately the c-section had no complications. My daughter was born at 30 weeks gestation but luckily she is doing very well. Aurora began to improve very slowly. However, on July 7th things took a turn to the worst. At this time the ventilator is giving her oxygen at 100% .They have given her some treatments but the doctor says that apart from that- they can’t do anything else. Since Aurora has been on the ventilator for more than seven days, the ECMO machine would do more damage than help, according to the medical providers. Aurora llamó a su médico de atención primaria y le dijeron que se quedara en casa, que a veces las pruebas no son precisas. Pasaron los días y comenzó a sentirse más enferma, el domingo 14 de junio no pudo soportarlo más y fue al hospital donde fue ingresada de inmediato. Los días pasaron, los síntomas empeoraron y luego se sedaron y entubaron el viernes 19 de junio. El martes 23 de junio, su oxígeno se volvió muy bajo y se requirió una cesárea para salvarles la vida. Dio a luz al bebé mientras estaba en el ventilador, afortunadamente la cesárea no tuvo complicaciones. Mi hija nació a las 30 semanas de gestación, pero afortunadamente le está yendo muy bien. Aurora comenzó a mejorar muy lentamente, el 7 de julio las cosas se pusieron peor. En este momento, el ventilador le está dando oxígeno al 100%. Le han dado algunos tratamientos, pero el médico dice que, aparte de eso, no pueden hacer nada más. Hello friends and supporters of Candida and her amazing family.<br /><br /><br />Our dear friend and sisStar is in need of the love and intentional support of the community.<br /><br /><br />In 2018 Candida made the choice to remove herself and her girls from an abusive situation at home. We acknowledge and admire the courage it took for her to navigate moving herself and her children form the home they’d been living in to a less favorable, but safer space until it was safe to move back home. You’ll be happy to hear that Candida and the girls are back in their home, they are safe, but they are in need of resources to recover from the traumatic affect this ordeal has had on Candida’s health, as well as the health of the children. <br /><br /><br />As you can imagine, the financial strain has lead our beloved to another difficult and courageous decision to reach out to some of us for help. There are many needs that a small group of us have already started to tackle. Proving once again that “many hands make light work.”<br /><br /><br />There are still urgent and specific needs that we are hoping you all can help us address to help keep Candida and her family safe, support their health and well being, and put words like COMMUNITY, LOVE, and SUPPORT into action.<br /><br />As the sole provider, primary nurturer and caretaker of her household, Candida’s health and finances have suffered as a result of the trauma they’ve been privately experiencing over the last decade. <br /><br />We are asking the community to join us in helping Candida and the girls gain some stability at home so that she can continue to be a resource and advocate for equitable arts funding and leadership. There are a few ways you can help:<br /><br /><strong>Donate TIME</strong>: Recovering from domestic trauma and sudden displacement makes ongoing appointments, court dates and obligations to “show up” an emotional and mental burden; a bit of your time can help ease these burdens.  <br /><br /><strong>Donate SERVICES/SKILLS</strong>: As mentioned there are necessary repairs that our handy friends can donate their skill set to. There are many small and large projects we can plug in to. <br /><br /><strong>Donate MONEY</strong>: This process has put financial strain on her and is something that could devastate and displace many of us. Donating money helps Candida catch up on her mortgage, utilities, pay for house repairs and clean up from vandalization and other damage to their home. Juve, as most of his friends know him, represents the kind of people we need in our community.  I have known Juve for several years now and in that time I have seen his commitment to his family, his community, and to others.  He has always stepped up to help those that needed it in so many ways. As you know, as an undocumented immigrant, Juve has faced many obstacles, yet he never gives up and continues to fight for his family and his communities. His desire to go to law school is not just for him, but so that he can be better equipped to continue to help others.  <br /><br />According to the Pioneer Press, about 17 percent of the U.S. population is Latino or Hispanic, making it the nation’s largest ethnic group. But just <strong>4 percent of the nation’s lawyers are Latino; more than 80 percent are white. <br /><br /></strong>Here is my ask, my challenge, my request - <strong>let's help Juve achieve his dreams and let’s send him to law school this fall!<br /></strong><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/13093597_1469029146.7736_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br />Here is more about him:<br />Juventino Meza is an undocumented Minnesotan, an internationally recognized champion for human rights, a non-profit executive and leader in civic engagement. Juve speaks regularly to classrooms and conferences on Latinos, Higher Education, LGBT issues, New Americans, Immigration Reform and Democracy.<br /><br />Initially dropping out of high school, Juve went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Peace &amp; Justice Studies at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. He co-founded NAVIGATE MN, a leadership development program for young immigrant students and worked at the Citizens League as a Policy Coordinator focusing on issues related to immigrant students and higher education. Juve's work on building a strong coalition to pass the MN Dream/Prosperity Act in 2013 led to access to higher education for undocumented youth across the state.<br /><br />Juve Meza is a passionate advocate who has worked tirelessly to change the conversation regarding immigrants and LGBTQ rights in Minnesota. Santo Guallpa was born on November 19, 1959 in Cuenca, Ecuador. In 1992, he moved to Minneapolis, MN where he met Sara Naula and started to build and raise a family. He was a father of four children. He moved to the United States for his children to receive a high-quality education and build career paths for themselves. He was a caring and loving father and ensured his family was well cared for and protected. He was a very hard worker and led by example for his children to achieve and excel in school. His dream was to see his children graduate from college. Santos passed away unexpectedly on March 11, 2015, from cardiovascular disease. This is a tremendous loss for his family. Although he will not be with us anymore, his legacy as a strong, loving, humble, and hard working individual stays within his family. Please support the Guallpa-Naula family in helping them raise enough money for Santos' funeral and medical expenses.
