Hi, our names are Daniel, Emilia and of course Floki.
In short, we are raising money to support the most important thing in our lives, our beloved little rottweiler boy <3
Last summer (2025) he went through a TPLO surgery to stabilize a cranial cruciate ligament injury, something a lot of big breed dogs sadly experience during their lives. It is a very common procedure and in most cases it all goes well.
Floki went through rehab and was eventually able to return to normal walks and light activity after a couple of months.
Recently he started limping ever so slightly again which led us to go and have him X-ray'd, turns out the implant had snapped and the orthopedist suggested removing the implant as the knee had healed. So another light procedure where they cut in and removed the implant was performed. The only thing we needed to make sure was that the wound closed up and he would be back to his good old self.
Our dreams were shattered after 10 days when he suddenly could not support any weight at all on his leg. We took him to the vet at 2 AM to get him some meds to make it through the night as he was shaking profusely. The next day we went to a bigger clinic where they performed another X-ray and gave us the grave news.
His knee was broken in several places due to the fact that the initial TPLO surgery never truly fused his bones as it should have. Something the new orthopedist had never seen before and he's got over a thousand different TPLO surgeries under his belt.
They offered us two choices:
Have Floki and us go through a very painful, time consuming and draining year of vet visits and rehabilitation again.
Let Floki run off into the pearly gates of the ever lasting dog park.
We sat there on the floor of the room, Floki still under the influence of heavy drugs, making a decision neither of us wanted to make. We had decided that we did not want him to suffer, nor did we have the funds to afford these procedures. While he is insured, insurance will only cover about a fourth of the costs estimated. We called family to come and say good bye. And as we were all gathered in the room, Floki started waking slowly. I have had this little big gentle giant since he was a baby. I know the meaning behind every glance, every ear twitch and every wag of the the tail. He looked at me with eyes that said: "It is not my time yet, I do not want to leave you, I want a chance to fight through this".
So at what we thought were the very last moments of his life, he told me, with a glance of the eyes, that he is willing if we are. And the Lord knows we are more than willing. We decided to go through the necessary initial procedures and to give him one more chance to come through.
And that is where we are currently, he has gone through the initial surgery where an external fixation was placed until his infection is cleared. And we are taking it one day at a time for now. If you are willing to help, we appreciate every little donation or share.
Take care of yourself and your furry friends, big love from us ❤️
