I’m asking for just $5 before March 1. That’s it. Five dollars. For the past two years, my high school son and I have volunteered through Young Men’s Service League at a senior community playing bingo. It’s joyful. It’s loud. It’s fun. And it’s also heartbreaking. I’ve watched seniors stare at their cards, unable to find the number that was just called. I’ve seen them forget which numbers were already announced. Stories repeat. Names slip away. Memory is precious — and when it starts to fade, it changes everything. Alzheimer’s doesn’t just affect “other families.” It affects all of us — our parents, our grandparents… and one day, potentially us. About 1 in 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia. That means dementia is a major part of aging for so many families across the country. The Alzheimer’s Association is the largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research in the world, accelerating global research, driving early detection and risk reduction efforts, and providing care and support for millions of families. They fund groundbreaking science — from early biomarkers and diagnostic tools to treatment and prevention research — and support caregivers and patients with education, programs, and a 24/7 helpline. So here’s the challenge: Donate $5. Do it before March 1. Share it with 5 people. Small gift. Big impact. The power of 5 adds up. Let’s protect memories — for the people we love today and for ourselves tomorrow. Will you join me?
