    Thank you to Peninsula Health Care District for the generous $70,000 grant that will help provide nutritious food to neighbors across San Mateo County — in San Mateo, Foster City, Millbrae, San Bruno and Burlingame. Every grant helps put nourishing food on the table and strengthens our community. And we’re grateful to partner with Peninsula Health Care District to help ensure more of our neighbors have access to the food they need to thrive.     A new challenge is on the horizon for California’s food banks. Already strained by rising costs and record demand, food banks are bracing for greater need as federal changes to SNAP eligibility take effect, putting more than 650,000 Californians at risk of losing CalFresh benefits. As local families face difficult choices between groceries and other basic necessities, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley provides food assistance to nearly 1 in 6 people in our region each month.     Some acts of kindness stay with us. Vicki made sure hers would keep giving. We didn't know Vicki had included Second Harvest in her will until her bequest arrived after her passing. Food was central to her life: "She loved making it, eating it and sharing it," said Deanna, her friend and trustee, who believes Vicki's choice came from personal experience. As a college student, Vicki sometimes didn't have enough to eat. Deanna brought her day-old donuts from work that kept her fed that summer. She never forgot that kindness. As a teacher, she opened her classroom early so students could eat, and shared vegetables from her garden with neighbors. Her gift will help feed our community for years to come.     My name is Katie Woodford and I am fundraising for Second Harvest of Silicon Valley because no one in our community should have to wonder where their next meal will come from. I have seen how food insecurity affects neighbors, friends, and families—children going to school hungry, parents skipping meals to feed their kids, and seniors choosing between food and medicine. I want to turn that worry into relief and hope. Second Harvest of Silicon Valley works every day to get nutritious food to people who need it most, through food distribution, meal programs, and community outreach. Supporting them means more fresh produce, more pantry items, and more warm, dignified access to food for our neighbors. I believe that small acts of generosity add up to transformational change.
