<div>My aunt and uncle, Donna and Rob, lost everything in the Spokane Old Trails fire. Donna, pictured in purple, is one of my mom's sisters. Anyone who knows Donna knows the light she adds to a room. Donna is the kind of person who makes a neighborhood feel like home just by being there. Donna walks miles every day and has built friendships all over the community through kindness, optimism, and the simple habit of bringing treats for the dogs along the route. Donna has spent a lifetime giving joy to others, decorating for every holiday, making people smile, and reminding everyone around them not to sweat the small stuff. Now, after retiring, Donna and Rob are facing the unimaginable and starting over from nothing.

We strive to improve the experience of these families in this often difficult and isolating journey in managing the long-term care of their child in the Netherlands. We help families find community and connection through our Parent Support Group and also run engaging activities for special kids, helping to build their confidence and giving parents a much-deserved break.

Families caring for children with multiple disabilities

Attention Oside and all world wide: My good friend, Shawn Ambrose and his beautiful German Shorthair Pointer pup Bella, were recently in a bad wreck. Shawn has multiple injuries including a busted ankle, eye trauma, and a concussion. Bella, his beloved shop dog that everyone knows and loves has sustained multiple injuries as well. Her vet bills are already at $18k and will climb further in order to make a full recovery. For those of you that don’t know Shawn Ambrose at Real Surf Shop in Oceanside, CA let me fill you in; Shawn has always been the first one to jump in and help out their community. Shawn has donated his time, his resources, and his heart and soul to anyone that has needed it. If you needed the shirt off his back, he’d give it to you, he can print more! when the pandemic hit, he was the first one to rally the community and really push to support local businesses, he designed and printed thousands of “Oside Takes Care Of It’s Own” stickers and distributed them to businesses and people throughout the community for free to let us all know who we are and how we do! Now is the time to truly take care of our own. I beg and plead of you to please, donate and share this GoFundMe and help out a friend to us all! This is a long road to recovery and to financial, business, &amp; personal stability- but together we can make this happen for them! Diagnosed 3 years ago with Sanfilippo Syndrome —a terminal disease sometimes called “Childhood Alzheimer's”— Eliza has now become the first child in the world to have been given this new treatment!  The second child has also been treated and in the coming months &amp; through next year, a few handful more children around the world will be part of this groundbreaking gene therapy clinical trial that is already showing promising results. The WORLD decided to rally around our little girl for this greater cause, and she’s become the face of this disease…a symbol for Sanfilippo parents everywhere not to give up HOPE.  And we’re not giving up on them either. Many more children are still fighting, and we won’t stop until every last one of them is afforded a chance at life. There are more children that need this treatment than there are available spots in clinical trials, and these precious little ones can’t wait. Given the rapidly degenerative nature of Sanfilippo Syndrome, not receiving a treatment, and soon, is a death sentence.  Can you imagine being one of these parents? Since treatment, we see a new light in Eliza’s eyes— she is connecting with us in a way we thought was gone forever. She is working to regain the skills the disease stripped away in the 6 and half years it tore through her body.  She is a fighter!  Other Sanfilippo children deserve this chance too. At this stage, funding is one of the only things that will accelerate research to give these children a chance. Money doesn’t make the world go round, but it does bring medical treatments faster to children who are dying. Our goal is to reach $4M here to help make this happen.
