“Bucket” Ben E-F needs our help. He’s moved your lamps, changed your bulbs, plugged in your hair dryers and chargers, and pranked your sets for over a decade now. He’s a hard worker, a problem solver, a storyteller, a lover of light and image who has poured himself into every project he’s encountered. Now he’s facing his biggest challenge ever, a challenge far harder than the worst logistics any set can throw-

In March of 2026, Ben and I received the worst news anyone can get. Ben, my backbone for a decade, my rock, the love of my life, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

This diagnosis has been devastating. It’s not curable. It’s not operable. In a moment, everything changed. The focus is no longer on the next project or gig, but on doctor visits, treatment options, and taking things one day at a time. Trying to live in the moment. Trying to not flash back or flash forward, but rather just be.

Through it all, Ben remains the same nerdy, strong, and pragmatic person we all know and love. His presence has impacted so many people both on and off set. And I am by his side every step of the way, supporting him through this incredibly difficult journey.

As many in the film community know, work in this industry can be unpredictable. Stepping away is not always an option. Both Ben and myself have stepped away from projects we had lined up. Planning for the future is not on the table. As much as we love our work, right now, Ben and myself need the space to prioritize what matters most: his health and the fight ahead.

The reality is that cancer brings not only emotional weight, but financial strain as well. Medical treatments, time away from work, and everyday expenses can quickly become overwhelming. Couple this with being limited on the work we can take and having our income drop significantly, we are already feeling the financial strain.

This is where we can come together for Ben.

If you are able, please consider donating. No amount is too small, and every contribution will help ease the stress of this difficult journey. If you’re not in a position to give, sharing this fundraiser, and keeping us in your thoughts means more than you know. Share stories, photos and good news with us. Call him and talk to him about the show you just wrapped or the lighting problems you’re having. Talk about hockey. Visit us and hang out. He has good days and bad days and your support and love helps keep him going when things seem bleak.

Help me rally around him with the same love, compassion, and strength he has given this community time and time again.

Thank you for your support, your love, and your presence in our lives.

Bucket Ben E-F Needs Our Help

Agonist is Annie Marie Elliot’s directorial debut, a short horror film about a grieving young man who falls into the final act of a cult leader’s ritual. We’re shooting in mid-December and have an incredibly talented slate of cast attached, from some of your favorite shows: 13 Reasons Why, Cobra Kai, Manifest, I Know What You Did Last Summer, School Spirits, Teen Wolf and more.

This is the last leg of funding to make our full vision come to life.

UPDATE 12/29/2023

Thank you!! We officially wrapped production on Agonist a couple weeks ago and are now working on post. Any additional funds we collect will go towards our extensive visual effects, festival fees, and paying our talented post team.

MEET THE DIRECTOR

Annie Marie Elliot, the powerhouse behind AGONIST, is a current film student leveraging her skills as an actress, writer, director, and producer (most recently appearing in A24’s pilot LIFTED.) Despite Annie being adopted into a large family where money was tight, Annie's passion from a young age has always been filmmaking—and she was able to make that dream a reality when she moved to Los Angeles by herself at the age of 17. As a half-Chinese woman director, Annie is excited to represent in the horror space.

Annie's narrative is shaped by her personal encounters with religious trauma during her childhood in a Christian school, particularly the teachings about "The End Times" from the Book of Revelations. AGONIST is also influenced by a true story about a traumatic eight-hour ayahuasca trip that her friend endured, which was akin to a descent into hell. Additionally, it reflects her struggle with the intense grief of losing a parent and her navigation through deep existential fears and complex personal relationships.

Annie's main goal in her storytelling is to evoke deep emotional and intellectual reactions from her audience. She strives to leave her viewers with an enhanced level of introspection, whether that entails an unsettling unease, a deep-seated discomfort, or a motivation to explore the intricate meanings behind each metaphor presented.

INSPIRATION

Agonist is inspired by the contemporary psychological horror films of A24, notably borrowing surrealistic, visual, and emotional elements from Ari Aster’s Hereditary and Midsommar. These influences shape Agonist’s focus on disturbing, cult-like stories rooted in trauma. The film also heavily incorporates metaphors related to the End Times, akin to those in Darren Aronofsky’s Mother!, and features a Gen Z ensemble cast similar to those in Bodies Bodies Bodies and Talk to Me.

OUR MESSAGE

The core metaphor of this story suggests that unless we as a society rectify our behavior, the world is destined for a catastrophic upheaval. Each cult member grapples with their personal deadly sin (Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Anger, Greed, and Sloth), intertwined with pressing modern issues like climate change, rape, selfishness, misogyny, and abuse of power. These themes underscore the grim trajectory of our contemporary society, ominously leading toward an inevitable fate, prompting reflection on the consequences of our actions.

WHERE YOUR DONATION GOES

We’re incredibly grateful for any support you can provide. Your donation will go towards our special effects and visual effects, our amazing location, camera gear rentals, general production expenses like permits and insurance, and more.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for anything you can give to make our film a reality.

AGONIST: A Short Horror Film

Friends. My wonderful Ookie girl is in desperate need of emergency surgery. She has a condition called pyometra which is essentially an infection of the uterus. As it turns out, little Ooks has the worst possible version of this condition which has caused her uterus to fill, with no drainage. It’s been described to me as “a ticking time bomb.” Should the infected uterus rupture, she would not survive.

I had to borrow $9,700 I did not have but it simply was not an option to deny literal life-saving treatment. Anything you can spare helps more than I can say. Trying to think of all the ways I can raise these funds, I’ve been told I’m bad at asking for help. So here I am. Asking for any help

you’re able to give. Even if it’s fifty cents or a sharing of the link. We love and appreciate you and I’ll be paying it forward for eternity.

Our focus is to present new voices that are boldly cinematic, deeply personal and prestige.

THE LIGHTS ARE ON IN THE BLACK MANSION AND ALL ARE WELCOME

This is the first of what I hope will be many opportunities for the community to engage with the content on my slate at the earliest stages of development. The objective is two-fold. I want to introduce these titles and begin to generate interest and conversation, as well as raise very small amounts of funding to cover The Black Mansion’s overhead costs for packaging as I take these projects out to equity investors.

The first project I am sending is INSIDE.

BUDGET AND FINANCE PLAN

We need to raise $4,000 USD to get a Budget and Finance Plan done.

This will allow us to calculate real numbers for the incentives generated by these partnerships, which will in turn, solidify our Finance Plan - which is the next step. So I absolutely hate doing this, but here we go...

Today, I ended up totaling my car (a 2007 Honda Civic) in an accident & because our car already isn't really worth much (we got a $1,100 Blue Book quote last fall), we now have to figure out a way to buy a super cheap car outright.

The reason? Back in November, my significant other had a job fall out and we've been scrambling to make due ever since. We have both been applying to countless jobs since then, and I am currently waiting to find out if I'm getting a job that's due to start in March, but until that moment (if it works out), things are beyond tight for us.

My other half has been working a ton of smaller gigs in the meantime, but the reality is that while my boss has always gone above & beyond for me, the state of online journalism is such where I don't really make a liveable income (which is why I've been pursuing a regular job so I can do both). On top of that (like losing our car isn't already the cherry on top of a completely not-so-fun February), two of our cats passed away very unexpectedly this month, which meant we had to contend with nearly $1400 in vet bills out of nowhere. The online community was AMAZING & really supported us through that tough time where only we only had to pay like $200-ish out of our own pocket, but we live on a super tight budget right now, and that was pretty rough.

Because of how generous & amazingly supportive everyone was during our pet emergencies over the last few weeks, I was extremely hesitant about doing a GoFundMe in the first place, because, at this point in my life, I should be a grown-up who can take care of things like that. Believe me, I'm working on that but we've just been dealt a ton of crappy hands repeatedly over the last few months, and I just don't know what else to do.

And trust that I do know there are so many people out there who are far greater need than we are, which is another reason I feel awful doing this, but we could really use a win right now, because we haven't had one in quite some time.

So, anyway, if you're still reading this, thank you so much for even taking the time to read this note. If you can help, we would be eternally grateful as we're just trying to raise enough money where we can buy a used car (we're not looking to get anything fancy) just to get us around and be dependable as well.

Raising Money for New Car

A friend to all of us, Melissa is among the hardest working and most supportive people I feel honored to know. She would never do this for herself so I've taken it upon myself to start this on her behalf. Melissa recently moved to Austin in September and unexpectedly lost her main source of income. She has since been struggling to make ends meet.
This past week she has woken up to a sick cat and the loss of her car. Without a car or funds for transportation, Melissa wouldn't be able to attend interviews or accept temporary side jobs that require a vehicle. Our primary goal is to raise enough money to afford temporary care for her cat, princess leia, and a means of transportation so that she can make it to her interviews and get back on her feet again. Any amount helps, and sharing this link wherever possible is greatly appreciated.

With expensive medications averaging $300 every month, in addition to provider visits, and limited medical resources, she needs all the kindness and help you could provide.

(I'm managing this on behalf of Lisa because she would never create her own GFM. She is selfless. Thank all of you.)

—-—-—

Our fellow KinjaTwitterer, Lisa (@bubble_letters), is going through a really sh*tty time in her life right now, primarily with health concerns that have been ongoing for quite some time.

There are difficulties she's having that I (@eboldy) can somewhat relate to, and I know how far a little kindness can go when life steps on your face and decides to break your nose. Repeatedly. I understand the reservations of donating your personal money to a relative stranger, and I don't want anyone to feel as if I'm putting on pressure - this was solely my idea, and I wanted to see if anyone other than myself would be interested in helping Lis out.

Every cent raised here will go straight to Lisa so she can take care of herself: bills, medical help, personal necessities, gas, the things needed to keep her on her feet for awhile.

Regardless of whether you're able to donate, even just a comment of support can mean the world. I thank you greatly for even reading this, and I know that whatever is raised, Lisa is already speechless at your kindness.

Life Is Good

For those of you that knew Ted, you know these words.

Ted Apy-Tuhiso died suddenly of electrocution while on vacation in Cancun, Mexico on November 9th.

He was happy and having a wonderful day, and in his exhuberance, he wasn't attentive of the power lines running next to him when he decided to take a selfie to share with his friends and family.

Please help his daughter Halle, his son Matty, his sister Caroline and his family and friends raise money to bring his remains back to the United States. Caroline has been working tirelessly with the Mexican Consulate to have Ted's remains reunited with his family.

His daughter Halle is a first year law student at George Washington University and his son Matty just finished a year of serving his country in Americorps. Unfortunately they are unable to handle the financial costs associated with having his remains transported back the the U.S.

We are asking for $5,000 to help have Ted's remains brought back to the U.S. This will cover the expense of the creamation of his body and the transportation of his remains from Mexico, as well as, any unforseen costs that may arise.

A memorial service will be held on the weekend of his birthday, March 25th, 2016. The location of the service will be announced at a later date.

Any financial contribution will be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much and remember that, Life Is Good!

Please Help Bring Ted Home

Do to the cancer she has been unable to get life insurance and she does not want to leave this burden on her children. We are trying to raise money for all her final expenses including: Any medical not paid for by her insurance and her final burial expenses.
