For 30 days, I’ll be doing at least 10 minutes of movement every day—nothing extreme, just intentional. This is my way of slowing down and showing up for myself during Mental Health Awareness Month.

<div>"Joseph “Vic” Holiday is a United States Marine Corp Veteran who lives in Florence, MS. My mom, and my siblings and all of his grandchildren are his whole world! He has worked his whole life to make sure he provided effortlessly! We always had food on the table and everything that we needed and has always made sure his grandchildren have had everything they needed!

<div>Shortly after enlisting into the service he met my mom and they have now been married 42 years, with 5 child and over 20 grandchildren!  
</div>

<div>After his service, he spent over 40 years working in customer service and shining the light amongst his coworkers, and customers and made a lasting impact on everyone he met! My mom battles with several health issues so he has always had to work extra hard to provide but has always done it with a smile and without complaint! 
</div>

<div>In January of 2026 he unfortunately had a stroke that left him spending 3 weeks in the hospital and almost 2 in rehabilitation! He lost full mobility of his right side but after therapy,  was able to regain some enough to be able to walk but not without a cane or help! He has no mobility to his right arm! He is still positive that one day he will! He even had a positive impact on everyone he met during his stroke by being completely positive and just grateful to have been able to live through it!

<div>Now, he is facing a new world where he can’t work or even do repairs that are needed to keep his home safe and in full working order for himself and my mom! My mom is now having to be his caregiver and can’t do repairs or even care for him properly due to their home not being easily accessible due to him now being disabled! Please help take the burden off of him now not being able to provide financially or do much needed repairs to their home so that him and my mom can enjoy the rest of their years without much stress! Help Marine Veteran Vic Rebuild After Stroke [Mississippi]

<div>I’m Lynn Napier, and as a social worker I have seen the immense benefits of mental health treatment for people of all ages. I know how a small moment of care can change a life, how one step toward healing can make the next step possible. That is why I’m joining TWLOHA’s 30-day commitment to move for 10 minutes each day—not to be perfect, but to remind myself and others that we are worth showing up for.

Move 10 Minutes: Show Up for Hope

<p>My name is Beth Fernandez. I have struggled with mental health my entire life for one reason or another. I know how isolating it can feel and how much courage it takes to ask for help. Because I received care and support that changed my life, I want to give others that same chance to find hope, healing, and connection.</p>
<p>For the next 30 days I am committing to just 10 minutes of movement each day. Walk, stretch, dance, or simply breathe with me. This is not about being perfect or pushing yourself. It is a small act of kindness we give ourselves to show up, to remind ourselves that we are worth care and that small steps can lead to big change.</p>
<p>I am fundraising for TWLOHA, Inc., an organization that meets people where they are and invests directly in treatment and recovery. Move for Mental Health: 10 Minutes a Day

<div>I'm Monte. I grew up in the “thin is in” era of the late 90s and early 2000s, and being heavier during that time was brutal. I also grew up in a religious environment where, especially as a woman, extra weight was considered a sin. <strong>I was taught my body wasn’t really mine.</strong> It was supposed to be for my future husband, for other people’s opinions, for fitting into a standard I could never seem to reach.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After losing 90 pounds, I thought maybe confidence would finally show up, but instead I fell into an eating disorder and still hated what I saw in the mirror. <strong>I realized changing my body didn’t fix the way I thought about myself.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Fitness became the thing that helped me heal that relationship. It stopped being about punishment and started being about seeing what my body was capable of. Movement became play. Strength became freedom. Joy replaced constant self-criticism. <strong>I finally learned that MY BODY IS MINE.</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>Now I’m watching the “skinny trend” come back and seeing young girls hold themselves to the same impossible standards I did, and I know the irreparable damage that does to mental health. NOT HERE.
</div>

<div>This is about reclaiming our bodies, moving for ourselves, and becoming the best version of ourselves for us.<strong> Progress and play will always be greater than perfection.</strong>

Help Morris Retire [Louisiana]

<div>"I work at a nonprofit in Central Vermont. My role is to assess and support people who enter our hotel voucher program. That is how I met Ronnie. Hearing his story stopped me in my tracks.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After his wife passed away, he let people stay in his home with him because they had nowhere to go. Over time, they took advantage of his kindness. They refused to leave and brought others in. Soon, Ronnie was pushed out of his own home and became homeless.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>For years, Ronnie has spent thousands each month on a run-down motel just to have a place to sleep, this doesn’t include the $10,000 he had to spend to get his car up and running for him to get to doctors’ appointments. During that time, his home was heavily damaged. There is trash throughout the property, including the garage and pool. Extra campers were added for more people to live there. A rat infestation has spread through the home, destroying appliances, walls, and floors.

<div>Ronnie was finally able to regain access to his home on March 1. When he tried to stay there, it was not safe. The house is unlivable, especially for an elderly Veteran with health issues. He is also battling a serious blood infection, which makes his situation even more urgent.
</div>

<div>All of this has left Ronnie feeling discouraged and unsure if he will ever return home. He served his country and worked hard his whole life. Now he is facing another fight just to have a safe place to live. Because he owns his home, help has been limited. This fundraiser can give him a real chance to rebuild and go home again."

Help Ronnie Rebuild His Home and Life [Vermont]

<div>"I’m writing this for someone who has been part of my life since I was a child, our dear friend Matthew Hohnholt. He comes from a family rooted in service. His grandparents, father, and aunt all served, and Matthew followed that path. He enlisted in the Marines right out of high school in 2000 and was among the first sent into Iraq. He also served in Kuwait, answering the call without hesitation.
</div>

<div>Matthew has given so much, but the cost of that service is something many do not see. He lives with severe PTSD from combat and survived traumatic injuries. Years in combat boots led to lasting damage that required surgery. Today, he is on disability and unable to work. Even through all of this, he remains kind, steady, and deeply selfless.
</div>

</div>
<div>After his service, Matthew lived with my husband and me for a time. I saw what he carries each day. He showed up for our family with care and love, spending hours with us and helping care for my newborn daughter. He became her first babysitter, and I later named her after his grandmother, Faye, a woman who meant so much to him.
</div>

</div>
<div>On October 3, 2025, Matthew faced a loss no parent should endure. His son passed away after struggling with mental health. Before this, Matthew had already lost his home and was living in a small trailer on his brother’s property. Now he is grieving while also facing the weight of funeral costs and daily expenses.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The funds raised will help Matthew cover funeral expenses, find stable housing, and meet basic needs during this time. If you know him, you know his heart. <div>My grandfather has always been selfless and hardworking. He has spent his life putting others first and caring for our family. My grandparents raised me, and everything I am today is because of their love and support.

<div>It is hard to see my grandmother at home alone while he continues to work each day. After everything he has done for us, he should not have to keep going like this.

<div>"I am nominating my dad, Rene “Ray” Trudeau. He is a retired Air Force Veteran who served for 20 years. He has always worked hard and taken care of others, but the past few years have been especially difficult for him.

<div>After losing their home to a hurricane, he and his wife moved several times before settling back in Mississippi. He cared for her for years as she battled Parkinson’s. Then, just over two years ago, she was diagnosed with cancer and passed away shortly after. It was a heartbreaking loss.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>With no close family nearby, he sold everything and moved to West Virginia to be near my sister. Not long after, he lost one of his dogs, who meant so much to him. Then came another difficult moment when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He went through treatment and had a short time of relief, but recently new spots were found, and we are waiting for more answers.
</div>

<div>Right now, he is living paycheck to paycheck while managing medical costs and traveling to appointments. Recently, he hasn't had the money to get his car registered or to get dental work done (he doesn't have dental coverage currently). It has been one challenge after another, and it has taken a toll on him.
</div>

</div>
<div>I would love to see him have some relief. Support would help with daily expenses, medical costs, and give him a sense of stability. My hope is that he can find comfort, peace, and maybe even a place to call home where he can truly rest."

<div>"Gary Crawford, my father, was born in 1950 and joined the Navy in 1969. He served during the Vietnam War. After meeting my mother, they had three children, and when they divorced, he took all of us and raised us on his own. He also helped raise another child from his new wife’s family, caring for four kids in total.

<div>He worked long hours at the Pope and Talbot lumber mill in Port Gamble, Washington. He often took overtime to make sure we had what we needed. Because of him, we had Christmas gifts, family vacations, school supplies, and full plates at the table. We always felt cared for.
</div>

<div>Gary is the kind of person who never turns people away. He would give you the shirt off his back and his last twenty dollars if you needed it. Today, he is retired and living on a small income. He has also been battling prostate cancer, and some days are very hard for him.
</div>

</div>
<div>Recently, his home, which belonged to his mother, was destroyed by a drunk driver. The house was condemned and lost power. He has been left without safe living conditions, and there is no insurance coverage. He now faces the cost of clearing the property, rebuilding, and finding a place to stay.
</div>

<div>Gary has spent his life giving to others, his family, his community, and his country. He deserves support during this time. He is tired, but still the same generous man he has always been. Thank you for taking the time to read his story and for any help you can give."

<div>"My name is Christina, and I am reaching out for my dad. He is a Veteran living in Hampton, Virginia, and he will turn 57 this June. For the past five years, he has been fighting leukemia. He wants to keep going, but the cancer keeps coming back, and each round of treatment takes more out of him.

<div>He and his wife are raising three young children, ages 11, 9, and 6. They are doing everything they can to hold things together. His wife works long hours to help pay for treatment, while my dad is in and out of the hospital, still trying to care for his children and manage daily life with very little help.
</div>

<div>Watching this from far away is incredibly painful. I live in Germany with my own two young children, and I cannot afford to travel to be with him as much as I would like to. I wish I could be there to support him, to help with the kids, or simply sit beside him so he does not feel alone during this time.
</div>

<div>My dad has always been strong and tried to carry everything on his own. Now he is exhausted, and he needs support. Hearing him speak about the future has been heartbreaking. I just want him to have more time with his children and to feel some peace instead of constant worry.
</div>

<div>Any support would mean so much to our family. It could help with childcare, daily needs, and give my dad the space to focus on his health. More than anything, it would remind him that he is not alone and that people care about what he is going through."

<div>When we lost my dad, my grandfather did not just lose his son. He lost his partner in caregiving and the person who helped carry the weight of each day. Now, at 88 years old, he carries that weight alone.

<div>Each morning, he wakes up and cares for the woman he loves as her memory fades. He does this while grieving the loss of his child. There are no breaks and no one there to step in when he is exhausted. Still, he shows up every single day.

<div>I help as much as I can, but I live far away and have a young child. I visit when I can, but it cannot replace the daily support my dad once gave. The truth is, my grandfather is doing something no one should have to do alone, without the means to afford in-home care or extra support.

<div>What stands out most is that even now, he still checks on me and makes sure I am okay. That is who he has always been. He has spent his life showing up for others, and now he is carrying more than anyone should have to, on his own."

Help Verl Care For His Family [Utah]

<div>"I want to share the story of my dear friend, Charles Deal. He has spent his life serving others with humility, faith, and love. He grew up in Waxahachie, Texas, earned respect through hard work, and later served in the National Guard during the Berlin Crisis. Service has always been at the center of who he is.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Charles has touched many lives through his kindness. He found joy in his community, especially at local football games, and he lives his faith each day at Pathway Baptist Church. He is always there for others, offering support, care, and prayer, yet never asking for anything in return.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In 2022, Charles retired to care for his younger brother who was battling cancer. His brother promised him he could stay in his home for the rest of his life. Sadly, his brother passed away just one month later, and that promise was never made official. Now, at 90 years old, Charles is struggling to keep the home he was meant to have.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>He's coming towards the end of his savings and taken on financial strain just to cover basic expenses like taxes, insurance, and repairs. His mobility is limited, and working is no longer realistic, yet he still considers it because he refuses to give up. He does not have family to lean on, but he does have people who care deeply about him.
</div>

</div>
<div>I met Charles at work, and he quickly became someone I admire and respect. He was dependable, kind, and always put others first. Even in retirement, he only asks for prayer. When I saw the story of Ed Bambas, it reminded me of Charles and how easily someone who has given so much can be overlooked. I knew I had to act. Any support will help Charles stay in his home and live his remaining years with peace and dignity."

Help Charles Stay in His Home [Texas]

<div>"Semper Fidelis means always faithful. At 20 years old, he did not yet understand what that truly meant. In 2006, after a night of reckless choices, he crashed his car and faced the consequences. With no direction and few options, he made a decision that would change his life. He chose to enlist in the Marines.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In 2007, he began training in San Diego and went on to become an infantry Marine. He built strong bonds with those he served beside and carried the values of honor, courage, and commitment. In 2008, he deployed to Afghanistan, where he faced the realities of war. Not all of his brothers made it home, and their loss stayed with him long after his service ended.
</div>

<div>"Bob is our coworker and an 81 year old Navy Veteran who will turn 82 this year. I met him a few years ago when I joined his department. Right away, I noticed his strong work ethic and kindness. I also learned he returned to work because his Navy pension had run out.

<div>Over the years, Bob has faced many hardships. He lost his wife, whom he cared for until the very end. He used his savings to support her and his family. Now, he continues to carry financial stress just to get by.

<div>Bob lives in his family home, but it is in poor condition. Winters are especially hard. Some days, the house barely stays warm, and he worries about frozen pipes. The roof leaks, and repairs have been out of reach. He also relies on older vehicles that often need work.

<div>Even with all of this, Bob still gives to others. He has shared food and money with people in need, even when he had very little. He is the kind of person who always shows up for others.

Help Bob Retire and Live in Comfort [South Dakota]

<div>"Back in 2012, my husband and I bought a home in Pendleton, South Carolina. That is where we met David and his wife Tiffany. They lived just up the street, and over time we became close friends. David brought humor and warmth into every moment, and he was always the kind of person who would help anyone in need.

<div>David has always lived a life of service. He joined the U.S. Army at 17 and spent his 18th birthday in basic training. After September 11, he deployed to Iraq, and he was also stationed in Germany and Kuwait. When people thank him, he simply says, “My pleasure.” As our families grew, our bond grew too, and we became what his oldest son calls “Framily.”

<div>In January, David traveled to Ohio to celebrate his son’s birthday at the Football Hall of Fame. We met up for dinner, and he was his usual self, full of laughter and kindness. Just two weeks later, Tiffany shared that he was having numbness and weakness in his body. After testing, David was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome.

<div>Since then, David has spent more time in the hospital than at home. He missed his youngest child’s first birthday while receiving treatment. He worked hard in therapy and made progress, but then his condition worsened again. After more testing, doctors confirmed he now has CIDP, a condition that will require ongoing treatment and care.

<div>David is now facing a long road ahead and has been unable to return to his work as an engineer. Tiffany has been by his side the whole time. <div>"I nominated my amazing husband, Lucas. He served 9 and a half years in the Navy before being medically discharged due to knee injuries. He has had multiple surgeries on both knees for torn meniscus and lives with daily pain. He will likely need another surgery in the future.

<div>We have four children together. Two of them we call our 'extra spicy' children, as they have Autism. In 2023, we were asked to take in two family members. Without hesitation, Lucas said yes. That brought our family to six children. He is not only a loving husband but also a caring uncle who puts family first.

<div>Since our family grew, I have had to reduce my work hours due to health issues for myself and one of our children. Lucas has taken on even more responsibility. He works as a teacher, supports his students, and continues his own schooling. Many nights, he only gets a few hours of sleep.

<div>Anyone who knows Lucas will tell you he gives freely and helps others without expecting anything back. He works hard to provide for us, but like many families, we live paycheck to paycheck. We have not been able to save for needed home repairs, and this has been heavy on him.

<div>Right now, we need to repair our front stairs, chimney, septic system, and oil system. I want to ease some of this burden for Lucas. He has done so much for our family, and I hope we can come together to support him."

Recently, that diagnosis was changed to PTSD, and we now believe he may have been on the wrong medication for many years. Today, those medications have taken a toll on his body. <div>Before all of this, he served in the United States Navy. During his service, he met my mom, and their love carried them through years of distance until they could finally build a life together. <div>"My dad is 71 years old, a U.S. veteran, and still works every day just to make ends meet despite ongoing health issues.

<div>At 18 years old, he followed in my grandfather’s footsteps and volunteered for the Army during the Vietnam War. Service, sacrifice, and hard work have always been part of who he is.
</div>

<div>But, what truly makes him extraordinary to me is that he raised me, his only daughter, completely on his own without any hesitation. As a single father, he worked hard and somehow filled every role a parent could. He gave me stability, love, and support even during times when I know things weren’t easy for him.
</div>

<div>My dad is also one of the kindest, most selfless people I know. He has spent his life helping others without ever asking for anything in return.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>He went through open heart surgery in 2001, and this caused permanent nerve injury to his diaphragm. Then last fall, he suffered a stroke. While he continues recovering from that, life hasn’t slowed down for him unfortunately. Even at 71, after serving his country, he continues to work as a security guard only because he has to, not because he wants to.

<div>Recently, we faced the risk of losing our home after nearly 29 years. Medical expenses caused us to fall behind on our mortgage. We were offered a loan modification, but the new payment is more than we can afford on our fixed income from Social Security and my partial retirement.

<div>I am also managing multiple sclerosis, which requires ongoing treatments, medications, and frequent testing. The co-pays alone have become a heavy burden. Together, our medical needs have made it harder to keep up with daily expenses.

<div>"My father, Ronald “Ron” Bleckinger, has spent his life serving others. As a young man, he left high school to enlist in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era, where he served as an Army Ranger. After his military service, he became a firefighter for more than 30 years, then continued his work in public safety with the Erie County Sheriff’s Department for over 20 years. He has always shown courage and compassion, even helping deliver a baby in the backseat of a car early in his career.
</div>

</div>
<div>Several years ago, Ron was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition called anti-MAG neuropathy, which makes it harder for his body to move and function. He also lives with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This past August, his treatments began again, and after his first infusion, he developed shingles in his eye, followed by meningitis and encephalitis. He spent over a month in the hospital and three more months in rehab before returning home.

<div>Now at 77, Ron needs around-the-clock care. His wife returned to work to help cover medical costs but had to stop to care for him full-time. She is now facing serious back issues that make it difficult to lift or move him safely. Ron is in a wheelchair and rarely able to leave the house.

<div>The emotional and financial strain has become overwhelming. A lifetime of service has led to a moment where he and his family need support. His needs include in-home care, medical supplies, and equipment to help him stay safe and comfortable.

<div>"Dave “Mr. Christmas” Plourde is an 87-year-old United States military veteran, explosion survivor, cancer fighter and beloved Albuquerque community hero who has spent decades serving others despite facing extraordinary hardships of his own. Many years ago, Dave survived a catastrophic explosion that nearly took his life, leaving him with severe injuries, impaired hearing, facial reconstruction, and lifelong medical complications that continue to affect him today. Rather than allowing those challenges to define him, Dave dedicated himself to helping others and spreading joy throughout his community.

<div>In recent years, Dave’s struggles have become even greater. Along with the ongoing health issues stemming from his injuries, he is courageously battling prostate cancer while facing the physical limitations that come with advanced age. At 87 years old, everyday tasks have become increasingly difficult, yet he continues to face each challenge with remarkable strength, determination, and grace.

<div>Dave and his wife, Sandra, have also endured significant personal and financial hardships. Sandra recently had a heart attack racking up hundreds of thousands in hospital bills. The family suffered the heartbreaking loss of their granddaughter, while mounting medical expenses, severe property tax burdens about to cost them their home, and ongoing home maintenance costs have created tremendous financial strain. Like many retirees, they are navigating these challenges on a limited income while trying to maintain their independence and dignity. All this while Dave still provides for his sick wife and disabled granddaughter still living with him.

<div>Despite these overwhelming obstacles, Dave has spent nearly two decades giving back to Albuquerque through the Christmas displays that earned him the nickname “Mr. Christmas.” What began as a simple effort to make people smile grew into one of the city’s most beloved holiday traditions. Thousands of families have visited his display over the years, creating cherished memories and experiencing the joy and wonder that Dave worked so hard to provide. His generosity inspired neighbors to join in, transforming an entire community into a destination that brought people together during the holiday season.

<div>Today, Dave Plourde is more than a veteran or the creator of a Christmas light display—he is a symbol of resilience, selflessness, and community spirit. <div>"Joseph Thomas is a 75 year old Navy Veteran living with Alzheimer’s. Even as he faces his own health challenges, he is caring for his wife, who has just begun cancer treatments, and his son, who has stage 4 kidney disease. He is doing everything he can to hold his family together.

<div>Joseph is the one driving them to appointments each day, keeping up with the house, and making sure they have food. He visits local food banks to provide for his family. At the same time, they are at risk of losing their car, which would make it even harder to get to the care they need.
</div>

<div>He is a proud grandfather and great grandfather who has always put others first. Last summer, he rebuilt their back porch with his brother so it would be safe for the kids. In his neighborhood, he has always been known as “Grandpa Joe,” a kind and familiar face who welcomed kids with ice pops after school.

<div>Joseph has a way of making people feel seen and cared for. He shows that even small acts of kindness can mean everything. Despite his diagnosis, he continues to give his time, energy, and love to those around him.

<div>On New Year's Eve, December 31, 2023, my dad's life changed forever when he lost his loving wife, Rochelle, after 47 beautiful years of marriage. He was absolutely devastated. The only silver lining in that dark time was the life insurance payout Rochelle left behind. It was her final act of love—giving him some financial peace of mind in his later years.

<div>Then, while Mitchell was still navigating profound grief, international cybercriminals stole his entire life savings—wiping out that final safety net Rochelle had left to make sure he was safe.

<div>People may ask how a good, capable person loses their life savings. I want to be very clear: for over 60 years, my dad was very responsible with his money. He is not careless. He did not make a risky investment or fall for a new romance scam. He was the victim of a highly sophisticated, AI-driven cyberattack aimed at senior citizens.

<div>It started with a hyper-realistic AI deepfake video of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in a Facebook ad promoting a government refund website. Sports stars endorse things all the time, so why should this be so unlikely? Unfortunately, it led to a fake, professionally created website designed to capture his personal information, and ultimately resulted in overseas scammers taking complete remote control of his computer. Through psychological terror, threats of immediate account closures and federal investigations, they took total control of his digital world. In a state of absolute panic, believing he was complying with actual FTC agents, his life savings were drained. This was elder fraud executed with military precision.

<div>His technological and financial life has since been completely secured to ensure he is protected from scammers. A very hard lesson has been learned, but the financial ruin remains.
</div>

<div>Our hope now is to restore his stolen savings, his long-term financial security, and ensure this sailor does not have to spend his final years lying awake worrying about how to pay his bills.

Help Mitchell Rebuild After Losing His Savings [Nevada]

<div>"My mother, Cari, is the strongest person I know. She served in the United States Air Force for seven years during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. From 2005 to 2006, she was deployed to Kuwait. After her service, she returned home carrying both physical and mental health challenges that later led to her medical retirement.

<div>Even after leaving the military, she never stopped pushing forward. She raised me and my severely autistic brother while putting herself through college. She earned both a bachelor’s degree in business management and a master’s degree in organizational and economic development. During this time, her health declined, and she was later classified as 100% disabled due to combat-related conditions.

<div>Despite everything, she remained strong. She has gone through 16 major surgeries related to her service and still faces ongoing health challenges. Through it all, she continues to show up each day with strength and determination, never letting others see how much she carries.

<div>Recently, she lost her mother, just ten years after losing her father. This has been one of the hardest chapters of her life. With more medical procedures ahead, she is facing both emotional and physical challenges all while being $100k in debt.

Honoring Cari’s Strength and Service [Nebraska]

<div>"Gordy, known as Poppa, is one of the strongest men I know. There is a quote that says some people wait a lifetime to meet their hero, but I was raised by mine. That is exactly who he is to me.

<div>At 78 years old, even with hearing loss that left him disabled through the VA, he still works harder than most. He cuts his own firewood, helps others, takes daily walks, and plays on the floor with his three great grandchildren. He has always stayed active and full of life. Then a house fire took not only his home of 46 years, but also some of that spark.
</div>

<div>This home held generations of memories for our family. We all came together after the fire to help however we could. While working long hours, I handled calls and emails with insurance alongside my daughter. Other family members sorted through what could be saved, while others cared for the children and kept things running. We did everything we could to support him.
</div>

<div>The insurance will cover some repairs, but the house was built in 1905 and has deeper structural issues. Finding a contractor willing to take on the work within the budget has been nearly impossible. The costs we did not expect continue to grow, making it hard to see a clear path forward.

<div>My dad has spent his life helping others without ever asking for anything in return. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and raised our family with strength and care. Help Gordy Rebuild After the Fire [Montana]

<div><strong>"</strong>My father, U.S. Army retired Major Juan R. Saavedra, needs help. In 2019, my parents were forced to leave their longtime home. My mother, a Veteran of both the U.S. Navy and Army, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and had to stop working. With rising costs and declining health, they moved to Joplin, Missouri, hoping for a safe place to settle.

<div>They trusted a builder to create a home where they could rest. Within three months, the foundation began to fail. The slab cracked and split due to poor construction. There was no proper reinforcement, and a structural engineer confirmed the home would need to be rebuilt. My father tried for months to reach the builder, but received little response. The home flooded when it rained, and the damage continued to worsen.

<div>When he contacted the warranty company, he learned the policy had been canceled just days after it began. There was no coverage to help fix the damage. As the foundation shifted, the floors became uneven. One day, my mother tripped, hit her head, and suffered seizures. She passed away four days later. Our family was devastated, and my father lost the love of his life.

<div>My parents spent their lives serving others. They fostered over 400 children with special needs and adopted nine. My father served 33 years in the Army before retiring due to cancer. He has always been strong and selfless, and he would never ask for help on his own.

Rebuild a Safe Home for Major Juan Saavedra [Missouri]

<div><strong>There are some people who leave a mark on this world so deeply that their impact continues long after they are gone. Patriotic Kenny was one of those people. </strong>

<div>Kenny stood for service, generosity, patriotism, and helping others without ever asking for anything in return. He loved this country, loved veterans, and dedicated his life to making sure those who served were never forgotten.

Just one week before his passing, Kenny helped us change the life of another veteran, Ben (who was the vet this fundraiser was originally created for), by providing him with a mobility scooter through our campaign. That was who he was always giving, always helping, always putting others first.

<div>Heartbreakingly, after helping Ben, Kenny passed away before we were able to continue the mission alongside him.

<div>"Elaine’s husband was a proud Marine Veteran, and for 65 years, they built a life side by side. Those who knew them say they were inseparable. Two years ago, he passed away from a heart attack. Just nine months later, their son also passed, leaving Elaine to face an overwhelming loss on her own.

<div>At 86 years old, Elaine is still working a physically demanding job to survive. Despite serious health issues, including rods in her back and torn rotator cuffs, she cleans a nine-story senior living building several days a week. She lifts heavy buckets, pushes equipment down long hallways, and cleans multiple bathrooms just to make ends meet.

<div>Elaine lives on a small Social Security income that is not enough to cover her basic needs. She often says she will have to work for the rest of her life. She is strong, kind, and never complains—but the toll on her body and spirit is clear.

<div>Since losing her husband, a Marine who meant everything to her, Elaine has not had the chance to rest or grieve. She keeps going each day because she has no other choice. She deserves the dignity of slowing down and the space to heal.

Help Elaine Retire and Rest After Loss [Michigan]

<div>"My father, Ken Avery, is 85 years old and still working to make ends meet. He grew up in Boston in a poor home and faced a difficult childhood that separated him from his siblings. He joined the Air Force as soon as he could to build a better life. While stationed in Syracuse, he survived a tragic barracks fire that took the lives of seven fellow airmen. He continues to honor them to this day.
</div>

<div>After his service, Ken worked for Eastern Airlines as a crew scheduler. He was well loved by his coworkers, but when the company shut down, he lost most of his pension. That loss made it hard for him to feel secure financially. Still, that job brought him the love of his life, his wife Junelle. They shared nearly 45 years together before she passed away from cancer in 2017.

<div>He visits her every day, sharing updates about their children and six grandchildren. Their bond remains strong, and he carries her love with him in everything he does. Family has always been at the center of his life.

<div>Ken later worked for the U.S. Post Office, but his pension was not enough to retire on. At 65, he found joy working as a ticket taker for the Boston Red Sox. He takes pride in his work and was named Ticket Taker of the Year in 2025. Because the job is seasonal, he still relies on unemployment during the off months.

Honoring Ken Avery’s Lifetime of Service [Massachusetts]

<div>"I met Melvin at a homeless shelter in Hagerstown, Maryland while volunteering in the kitchen. I noticed him sitting quietly at a table, eating his meal. He looked worn down, but there was something kind and steady about him. I introduced myself, and we began to talk.

<div>As we spoke, we realized we had both served in the military. That shared connection opened the door to a deeper conversation. Melvin told me about his time in Vietnam during the 1960s. He spoke with humility and honesty about his experiences and what it was like to come home afterward.
</div>

<div>Over time, he shared more about his life and the challenges he has faced. He lost his wife, which deeply affected him. Around that same time, he also lost his stability when his VA benefits were reduced due to an overpayment issue that was not his fault. His income dropped to a level that made it impossible to keep housing.

<div>Even in the middle of all this, Melvin kept a promise he made to his wife. He has been caring for her daughter, who has special needs, doing everything he can to support her. For years, he has carried that responsibility with strength and love.

<div>After his passing, Debbie lost their home. She now rents a small apartment and keeps most of her belongings in storage. It has been a long and difficult time trying to rebuild her life and find stability again.

<div>Even now, Debbie continues to help others, including me and her two grandchildren. She has spent her life giving to people, often without recognition. She is turning 74 in August, and I want to see her in a home where she can feel safe and at peace.

<div>I am her daughter, and she adopted both me and my brother when we were babies. She gave us love, stability, and a future. I live in the same apartment building and see every day how unsafe it can be for her.

That same mindset has carried him through the years, even after suffering a stroke. He has always done what was needed, without complaint, and without asking for help.

<div>Today, Carl works as a delivery driver, but it is becoming harder each day. He lives in a small second floor apartment, and even climbing the stairs is a challenge. Long hours on the road and late nights raise concerns about his safety and health.

<div>"My name is Delanie Miller, and my family needs help. On October 22nd, my dad was in a serious accident while preparing for deer season. He fell 25 feet and suffered severe injuries. His left wrist and ankle were shattered, and his right knee was completely broken.

<div>He has already had three surgeries, with more likely ahead. Right now, he cannot put any weight on his legs or his wrist for at least 10 weeks. Just one week later, my mom was in a car accident on her way to visit him. Her car was totaled, adding even more stress to an already difficult situation.

<div>The medical bills are overwhelming, and my dad is unable to work. He was also discharged early from rehab because insurance stopped covering his stay. He was given only one hour to leave, even though he still needs full support and our home is not equipped for his condition.
</div>

<div>If you know my dad, you know he is always the first to help others. As a United States Army Veteran, he has spent his life showing up for people. He is a loving father and an incredible grandfather who means everything to our family.

Help an Army Veteran Keep Their Home [Kansas]

<div>"On December 13, 2025, in Palmyra, Syria, United States troops were ambushed on a routine patrol. During this attack, two American Soldiers and a US Civilian interpreter were killed in action, and three American Soldiers were injured.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Two of the injured soldiers were flown to a base for medical attention. Another soldier was treated on base for his injuries. The soldier who was treated on base was Sargent Andrew Henschel. Sargent Henschel, a medic, was injured while treating the other soldiers who were injured. Due to his bravery while under attack, he earned the Combat Action Badge and a Purple Heart. Governor Kim Reynolds pinned Sargent Henschel with his Purple Heart on base in Syria.
</div>

<div>Sargent Henschel serves out of Des Moines, Iowa, in the 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division. He was deployed to the Inherent Resolve Mission in Syria from July 2025 to February 2026. Andrew was a 2016 graduate of Lake Mills High School.

<div>"Franklin “Tim” Foster is a proud Marine Veteran who lives in Greendale, Indiana. To our family, he is more than that. He is a loving father who has always been our foundation. He worked hard for decades to provide for his four children and make sure we had what we needed.

<div>Tim knew he wanted to be a Marine from a young age. He joined in 1977 and served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, traveling to places like Hawaii, Japan, and the Philippines. His time in service shaped who he is today, and he carries that pride with him always.

<div>After his service, he spent nearly 50 years working in construction. That work took a toll on his body. He now lives with severe shoulder pain that limits his movement, but he kept working because he needed to support his family and keep up with bills.

<div>In October 2024, Tim was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. It was sudden and frightening. He had to begin treatment right away and stop working, which also meant losing his work insurance. <div>"I met Letouer Turner while covering his story, but what stayed with me was the weight of what he is going through. He is a disabled U.S. Army Veteran who served a 15 month deployment in Iraq as a gunner. He put his life on the line for this country. Today, he is 100% service connected disabled and unable to work.

<div>Now he is facing foreclosure on the home his children helped pick out. What makes this harder is that he should not have been paying property taxes at all. He qualifies for a Disabled Veterans Exemption that can reduce his tax bill to zero. But because of confusion and delays, those taxes were added to his mortgage for years, causing his payments to rise.

<div>He told me, “I spent 15 months in Iraq putting my life on the line. To come back and lose your home over taxes you are not even supposed to pay, it just does not make sense.” Since then, he has done everything asked of him. He filed paperwork, followed up with offices, went to court, and called his mortgage company. Still, he keeps running into delays and mixed answers.

Kaala and 15 years as an FAA Air Traffic Systems Specialist, Joseph has made a positive impact on the Waialua/Haleiwa community for many years. I have known Joseph, or “Boji,” my whole life. Our families have been close since the 1960s. His parents have both passed, and his sisters now live on Maui, leaving him here to manage things on his own.

<div>Boji has always been someone who shows up for others. As a young man, he mentored kids who needed guidance and treated them like family. Many of them say he helped keep them off the streets. As a lifeguard, he taught children how to swim, but also how to face life with strength and confidence.

<div>After his father passed, the home was placed in a trust. Boji has cared for that property for years while trying to have it transferred into his name. Despite the challenges, he has remained committed to maintaining the home and honoring his family.

<div>Boji works between Oahu and Maui, traveling back and forth to make a living. After the first Kona storm, he cleaned up the property and returned to work. Then the second storm hit. <div>"Moshe Szabo's story begins in the ruins of post-war Europe, where his parents survived World War II only to lose everything — their home, their family, their world. They found a second chance in America, and they raised Moshe to honor that gift. When Moshe was drafted to serve in Vietnam in 1966, he didn't hesitate. He went — proudly, as a naturalized citizen who believed in this country with everything he had.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>During his time in the Marines, Moshe served as a radioman, a position often among the first targeted by the enemy, hoping to prevent backup and air support from being called for. In Vietnam, he was exposed to Agent Orange — a carcinogenic herbicide used to defoliate the forest, which sickened him for decades before the full picture emerged. Even back in the US he wasn't safe. While stationed at Camp Lejeune, he was unknowingly exposed to contaminated water that quietly poisoned him. After his service, Moshe settled down, built a life, and raised a family. But silently, his body carried remnants of the war home with him.
</div>

<div>In 2004, Moshe needed a triple bypass. At the VA, doctors confirmed his heart disease and diabetes were both direct consequences of Agent Orange exposure. Then, just a few years ago, doctors discovered he had an aggressive carcinoma — tied to the toxic water at Camp Lejeune. With consistent treatment, his prognosis is good — but that treatment is relentless, physically punishing, and expensive.
</div>

</div>
<div>He was being cared for at the VA Hospital. Then the DOGE cuts came in 2025, when more than 20% of the VA workforce was eliminated. Suddenly the system built to protect him could no longer keep up. Appointments became scarce. Gaps in care appeared. Now Moshe is being forced to seek treatment with private doctors and pay out of pocket for the care he needs when he needs it.
</div>

<div>Now at 80 years old, this fight is taking a heavy toll. The treatments are grueling, leaving Moshe thin and often exhausted. But his doctors are optimistic, and this is a battle he fully intends to win. He keeps pushing forward for the love of his family: his wife, three children, and six grandchildren. He smiles through the hard days because he is fighting for his future with them — for more holidays, more milestones, and the chance to watch his grandchildren grow up. Moshe's greatest wish is to beat this cancer and continue providing his family with love and security, without being crushed by a pile of medical bills and debt.

He now lives with severe complications, has lost significant weight, and functions with only a portion of his liver.

At the same time, he helped care for our father, a decorated WWII Veteran who served in the Pacific and received a Bronze Star. Despite our father’s service, he was denied basic support, and every attempt to get help was turned away.</em>
