<div>As many of you know, my best friend Jamie was recently diagnosed with breast cancer at just 35 years old. This devastating news comes just months after she welcomed her baby in February, and she also has a 7-year-old son. Jamie is facing a challenging journey ahead, including a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, possible radiation, and extensive recovery and reconstruction surgeries.

<div>Her doctors have advised that the next few months will be incredibly tough. Jamie will need to focus on her recovery, which means resting every day. While her husband will be taking time off work to care for her and their children, the financial burden will still be significant. With medical bills, travel expenses for doctor visits, money for take out meals since it’ll be difficult for Jamie to cook and daily needs for their family, money will be tight.

<div>In addition to hospital expenses, there are many other costs to consider, such as groceries, diapers for the baby, supplies for their rescue animals, and special items like mitts and foot warmers to help prevent neuropathy during chemotherapy.

<div>We want to ease some of this financial stress so Jamie can concentrate on her fight against cancer and her recovery. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help cover these essential expenses and support her family during this difficult time.

<div>The funeral services for Payton Renee Himo were unbelievable. Burns Funeral Home did such a wonderful job that it's really hard to express the gratitude. If you were not able to make the services you can watch it online on Burns Funeral Home's Facebook page. There has been such an outpouring of love to Matilda that she is having a hard time just taking it all in. I have never seen someone so grateful for all that she has, even in this terrible time in her life. To everyone that has given, a HUGE thank you! If you haven't given, but can, please consider doing so. There is so much to be done yet, to get Matilda's life back to somewhat normal. God Bless all of you and remember to live each day like it was your last.

<div>On 1/6/24, the Modica’s world was turned upside down. Our sweet Ali Rose has been in the hospital relentless in her efforts to lead a normal 4 year old life again. While Ali remains admitted for medical recovery in the hospital in Philadelphia, her loving parents have not left her side. <div>I am reaching out to you today on behalf of one my best friends Maria who is currently battling colon cancer. She is a remarkable woman who has dedicated her life to helping others, first as a paralegal for 30 years, and more recently as a flight attendant for JetBlue. Unfortunately, due to her ongoing health struggles, she is now unable to work and needs our support.

<div>In August 2021, Maria was diagnosed with colon cancer. She bravely underwent surgery and, after a week in the hospital, returned to work within a month, determined to continue her life as normally as possible. However, the cancer returned in August 2022, leading to another surgery and a longer hospital stay of 2 1/2 weeks, followed by six months of chemotherapy.

<div>In August 2023, Maria faced yet another diagnosis of colon cancer. She underwent surgery in November and began chemotherapy again in February 2024, requiring a port placed inside her body for treatment every two weeks. Despite these hardships, She has shown incredible resilience and strength.

<div>As of November 2024, she will have been out of work for a year. Additionally, in September 2024, she needs ambulatory surgery to place a stent to relieve the pain caused by a swollen kidney due to a tumor pressing on her arteries and nerves.
</div>

</div>
<div>While her insurance covers a portion of her medical bills, there are significant out-of-pocket expenses that she is struggling to meet. Her long-term disability income is $3,588 a month, but her rent alone is $2,650. With additional monthly expenses such as utilities, cell phone, cable, and home insurance, not to mention food and transportation to medical appointments, She is facing a financial crisis.

Support Maria's Battle Against Colon Cancer

<div>Emmett was born 9/20/23 with severe Ebstein’s Anomaly. His first open-heart surgery was at 5 weeks old, where a cone procedure failed, leading to the Starnes Procedure and BT Shunt, making him a single-ventricle kiddo. He was later diagnosed with Abernethy Malformation, a rare liver condition. After significant challenges, he was weaned off medications and oxygen support and made his way to TCU status! He had a pre-Glenn cath procedure and then the Glenn procedure on April 1, 2024. Although the surgery went well, he faced setbacks, including breathing issues that required intubation. He never truly recovered and had a cath lab procedure on April 23, 2024 to coil collateral vessels and he slowly made progress. Eventually though Emmett’s respiratory status deteriorated and he is back on a bi-pap interface on the ventilator. He has more collateral vessels that need coiled and a very small airway. The team believes at this time a transfer to Pittsburgh Children’s would be best for him. Pittsburgh has a specialist in Ebstein's anomaly who created the cone procedure.

<div>On 6/20/24 Emmett was officially accepted by a physician in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh Children's Hospital is one of the only hospitals in America who will accept Emmett as a 1-ventricle kiddo with intentions of doing a cone-procedure, which would make him a double-ventricle kid again! If the cone-procedure is successful this could mean Emmett may never need a heart transplant. On 6/28/24 everything was officially approved and the transfer was in the hands of Pittsburgh. We were told on 7/1/24 that Pittsburgh would be reaching out to advise us when they will transport Emmett. On 7/2/24 Pittsburgh had a meeting and decided that despite everything being approved, that they no longer choose to work with Emmett’s insurance. We were told previously this would not be an issue, as they have worked with Illinois Medicaid before. Emmett has Meridian (Illinois Medicaid) and our only hope is to reapply and pray Emmett qualifies for a program that helps get kids the insurance they need and that Emmett can get an insurance Pittsburgh will work with, this process can take anywhere around 6 weeks! On 7/3/24 we have started the process with insurance but this takes time that Emmett doesn’t have!

<div>Emmett needs to get to Pittsburgh, if he stays a 1-ventricle kid, Emmett will need a transplant, which for him is nearly impossible to have approved, due to his liver and lung issues. If Emmett stays in St. Louis and continues down this road of a transplant, he will end up on hospice and we can’t say goodbye to our sweet boy. Pittsburgh is Emmett’s only hope. Emmett deserves this procedure, he deserves to live many years to come. Please help us get our boy the life-saving care in Pittsburgh that he deserves. Any money used from this fundraiser will be used towards getting Emmett to Pittsburgh and getting him the cone-procedure to save his life. A medical flight equipped for Emmett with the special equipment and staff he needs will be at minimum $20,000 should insurance deny him. This will not include any additional charges, hospital stay, travel expenses, etc. truly anything helps!

<div>On Saturday, April 6th, our dear friends Tina and Rob Ryan’s home caught fire. Tina’s mother, Marilyn, was in the home when the fire broke out and is currently in critical condition in SIUH’s Burn Unit. She is not doing well, all prayers for her recovery are appreciated.

<div>Tina and Rob have spent the last 10 years dreaming of rebuilding this home that generations of Tina’s family grew up in and less than a month after moving in and getting ready to welcome their second child, it was gone.

<div>Tina is a beloved member of the PS 56 family and Rob is a supervisor for DSNY; they are loving parents to their 3 year old son Robbie and Tina is 9 months pregnant with their baby girl.
