<div>On Monday, December 15, 2025, Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer, 26, lost his life to suicide after a years-long battle with schizophrenia.

<div>The loss of our family’s youngest child is a sorrow beyond words—one that will echo through our lives, forever. Yet even in our grief, we are choosing to speak Donovan’s truth, so that other families do not have to suffer in silence the way we have.

<div>The baby of the Metayer family, “Donny” as he was affectionately called, was a radiant child. Brilliant and curious, he always excelled academically, with an intellect matched only by a magnetic humor and warmth that could light up any room, effortlessly.

<div>But, beneath that light, Donny carried unimaginable sorrow.
</div>

</div>
<div>A graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, his senior year was marked by the Parkland shooting, one of the most devastating acts of gun violence in our nation’s history. The trauma of that day and the loss of classmates lingered long after graduation and profoundly altered the course of his life.
</div>

<div>In the months that followed, Donny began to withdraw. Depression, guilt, emotional instability, and long periods of isolation replaced the vibrant young man we once knew.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Though he had dreamt of college and a future in computer science, his worsening mental health made those dreams difficult to reach.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Over the years that followed, he would be hospitalized multiple times for suicidal ideation. Like so many young people, he struggled to accept a mental health diagnosis.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Treatment—therapy, medication, and constant adjustments—was a journey marked by exhaustion. Donny often masked his pain to not burden those he loved, even as our family fought alongside him. Finding care through limited resources, systemic barriers, and the realities of navigating mental health crises as a young Black man made his path all the more steep.
</div>

<div>A mental health episode in 2021 would result in Donny being Baker-acted, and he was temporarily barred from purchasing a firearm.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Shortly after, the Henderson Clinic and a private psychiatrist became a lifeline, offering guidance, compassion, and hope for his future. With their support, Donny began to heal, earning an IT certificate and joining the team at Office Depot in Coral Springs, where he was quickly promoted. After years of challenges, he was beginning to carve out a sense of independence and a future he could believe in. His progress was a source of immense pride for our family.

<div>But earlier this month, upon learning that his Risk Protection Order had lapsed, Donny purchased a handgun at a local gun shop. A week later, he would use that same handgun to take his own life in our family home.
</div>

<div>Donny’s passing is a heartbreaking reminder of the mental health crisis plaguing our youth and the lasting trauma of gun violence on our community.
</div>

<div>As we grieve his loss, we are breaking the code of silence in his memory.

<div>Though Donny’s life was brief, his impact will be everlasting.

<div>In his honor, we are soliciting funds to assist our family with the celebration of life services and to endow a fund at the Henderson Clinic that will provide healthcare, housing, and hope for people of all ages with behavioral health conditions throughout Florida.

Nothing would honor her more than knowing that her family is being supported in her absence.

This will allow Eric to take an extended leave of absence from work to stay home, bond with baby Wyatt, support his older children through their devastating loss, and figure out their new normal without the heavy burden of financial anxiety.

Honoring Ashley by Supporting Her Family

<div>On December 15th, 2024, <strong>Adriana Shrem's 5-year-old son, Nathaniel Rodriguez, was involved in a tragic car accident in San Bernardino, CA</strong>, where the four other passengers, including his father, his father's girlfriend, and his grandparents, were all killed. Nathaniel survived and was airlifted to the burn unit at UC Irvine, where he is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

<div>Anybody who knows me, knows that I am a very reserved, quiet and private person. I have always been independent and I am used to doing everything on my own for me and my children. <div>These last 2 years I have been silently battling a rare terminal cancer.. Small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC), a high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma.

<div>On May 7th, 2022, the day before Mother’s Day, I walked into the emergency room due to what I thought to be just a normal shoulder injury and walked out diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer along with the doctor’s words replaying in my head, “I hope you have a good support system at home because you’re going to need it, you have a long and hard journey ahead of you.” The doctor than proceeded to tell me that there were multiple tumors that had metastasized to other parts of my body including my skeletal, which is how we were able to find the tumor that was causing my shoulder pain. By that point the damage had already been done. In that moment, mine and my kids’ entire lives had changed forever, as well as all of those around us.

<div>Unfortunately, it doesn’t end there.. On January 17th, 2024, I was diagnosed with Cushing Syndrome. Which has caused me so many other underlying issues such as rapid weight gain &amp; swelling (60+ lbs in a matter of weeks), muscle and bone deterioration, high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, Moon Face &amp; so much more! This disease has already taken so much away from me and my family!

<div>Since my diagnosis I have managed to keep working full time, taking only 2 months off in the beginning for surgeries , biopsies, appointments, radiation and chemotherapy treatments. All while still being a full time mama. I do have an AMAZING support system but over time it has put a major financial, emotional, mental and physical toll on us all.

<div>I have been ashamed and embarrassed for people to know the truth, that I have kept this a secret for as long as I could but the physical effects are starting to take control and I can’t hide it any longer. I’ve never been good at accepting or asking for help but unfortunately, I believe I’ve come to a point in my life and health where that is no longer an option for me. I am no longer able to physically work which has put a major financial burden on me.

<div>UPDATE: September 18th, 2024 I had a Dr. Appointment with my oncologist. Unfortunately, I wasn’t given the best news. Due to my prognosis, I have decided to discontinue treatments as they will no longer help. I have been given 3 months to live. 3 months to spend with my babies and loved ones. 3 months to make the best of what time I have left. During these next couple of months I need to make sure my kids will be ok after I am gone. I am faced now with the most difficult thing of planning my own funeral. Due to me not being able to work for months now I do not have any finances saved up or any life insurance set aside for this situation. I have looked into the expenses and I am needing to raise about $5,000 to ensure funeral costs are covered plus I’m wanting to leave something behind for my babies.

HURT I went out of my way to give this woman and her kids a place to stay, after battling my own thoughts of it NOT being a good idea, but seeing her go from hotel to hotel sleeping in her truck out side of the house &amp; having her beg me saying she promise to do right and pay my money and not mess up my house, bcuz of the compassion of my heart I gave in and allowed her to move in, not even a week into living there I got phones calls from the neighbors saying that someone was kicking in my door and they were all in the streets fighting, still I let her stay, phone call after phone call every other week still I let her stay, now the the city is contacting me in reference to the complaints of high traffic, noise, fights &amp; police calls still I allowed her to stay, then comes the late rent still I allowed her to stay, the tenant below got so tired of all the stuff going on she gave me a 30day notice to move out bcuz she’s could nolonger deal with all the stuff going on above her, and 30 days later she really moved, still I allowed her to stay, then without notice she tell me hey by the 12th of August I will be moving to Texas, I was relieved happy that finally my headache and biggest regret was over, however I said since u are going to be staying until the 12th I need half months rent, she said ok don’t worry I got u I lost my debit card I’m waiting on it in the mail, same story she told me on the 3rd, giving her the benefit of doubt I said ok cool, she then told me she signed up for a program that was going to be giving me $3700 and I told her to get me what she needed me to sign and I’d help her, she gave me the lady info, I called to verify that she signed up for assistance and was really getting money the lady never returned my phone call or anything 3 weeks later I told her since I can’t verify what she is saying and she still haven’t paid me rent I need her to move out ASAP, she said but I’m tryna get you extra money, I said I don’t need the money I wanted her to pay August rent or move! That’s when all this came about, she then told me she wasn’t going nowhere and I was going to have to take her to court if I wanted her gone, yesterday I came to Racine which resulted in the police being called and to her surprise the police sided with me and told her she had to leave, still the integrity of my heart wouldn’t allow me to put her out on the street so I told her Infront of the police I would pay for her and her kids a hotel room, she said she don’t want or need for shit and fuck me, we exchanged a few words, I left &amp; did what she and the police asked me to do which is have her removed the right way, then she do this... I don’t owe her anything, never received a single dollar from the state her or anyone else ALL I ever asked for was my rent &amp; my house to be kept in good condition, I’ve never done anything but help her and give her a place to stay I’m bothered that after everything she’s already done, and me allowing her to stay she does this, I’m truly hurt bcuz as a culture we are going through enough, we should be building each other up not tearing each other down, I work hard to get &amp; maintain what I have so that my children will have something &amp; won’t have to work as hard but POEPLE with nothing to lose does things like this to those of us who made the effort to be different and do better for themselves, we are all granted the same opportunities it’s nobody’s fault that you chose the choices you chose why be mad at me and mess up what I built...

The restaurant’s motto was “From Our Kitchen To Yours” in which she made all her dishes from scratch.

My condolences to the Floyd family.”<br /><br />On March 18, Mama Safia closed her doors because of the stay at  home order for her safety and the safety of the community. For decades, Kyoto Animation and their talented team of visionaries have gifted the world with animated works that have inspired and influenced countless lives around the world.<br /><br />In a world where nearly anything, including Japanese anime, can be reduced to a commodity, Kyoto Animation’s productions are distinguishable as some of the world’s most heartfelt, soulful and beautifully crafted works. Sentai Filmworks has been honored to have had the opportunity to represent many of those works outside Japan including K-ON!, Beyond the Boundary, and Love, Chunibyo &amp; Other Delusions. And, like all of you, we know KyoAni through those creative works.<br /><br />On July 18, 2019, the Kyoto Animation family was viciously and senselessly attacked. The full extent of this tragedy is only now coming into full view. More than thirty people lost their lives and scores of others were seriously injured. The purpose of this drive is to collect funds for their benefit. Our team in Japan is in communication with KyoAni representatives.<br /><br />Sentai Filmworks launched this drive but the movement has been propelled entirely by the generosity and kindness of people like you who have been touched by Kyoto Animation’s works over the years. The level of support and the fundraising that has been achieved so far is a testament to the positive impact KyoAni has had on the lives and the imaginations of so many around the world.<br /><br />We plan to end the fundraising phase of this drive on July 31. After this drive concludes, we intend to deliver 100% of the funds directly to those in need, either directly through Kyoto Animation, or through partnering with a local, Japan-based organization that can ensure that funds are delivered to the KyoAni staff and their families impacted. We are working with our contacts in Japan in coordination with KyoAni to finalize this plan.<br /><br />No funds will be withdrawn until the plan for aid distribution is completed and approved in cooperation with KyoAni. Help KyoAni Heal

My grandmother's house in Albania is falling apart from the foundation to the ceiling. She raised 7 kids in that house including my brother and I and my grandpa built it himself 60 years ago. The house is currently unlivable in, and she is staying with family and friends until she figures something out. <br /><br /><br />It's going to cost around $5,000 to fix everything which is a lot of money in Albania. My parents money is all tied up right now and they are unable to do anything to help her.
