What Jose cares about

Just days after welcoming my twin daughters, I was diagnosed with heart failure. My heart is working at only 5%, and I’m waiting in the hospital for a heart transplant. Please help me stay strong for my girls.

To know me is to know my dad. He isn’t just a father to me; he is my best friend, my coworker, and my travel companion. He’s the kind of guy who hangs out with me and my friends, and everyone loves him. Our lives changed suddenly a little over a week ago. Just after getting back from a trip to Puerto Rico, my dad suffered a stroke. He has been transferred from the hospital to Encompass Health in Kissimmee, Florida, to begin the long road to recovery. I am asking for your help to get him back to the dad we all know and love. We are raising funds to help cover his rising medical bills and rehabilitation costs. While financial support is incredibly helpful, what he needs most right now is community. We are hoping friends and family can visit him at Encompass Health—especially in the mornings during his rehab sessions—to encourage him to walk and talk again. I’m there as often as I can be, but your faces and voices would mean the world to him right now. Thank you for helping us get him back on his feet.

On August 19, my girlfriend and I were blessed with the arrival of our beautiful twin daughters — two precious miracles who completely changed our lives. On August 22, we brought them home for the very first time. It should’ve been one of the happiest moments ever, but that day turned into something I could have never expected. For weeks, I had been feeling shortness of breath, but that day it got worse — so bad that I decided to go to the emergency room. After several tests and an echocardiogram, doctors told me that my heart was only functioning at 5%. I was diagnosed with heart failure and told that I would need a heart transplant to survive. Now, I’m still in the hospital, waiting on the heart transplant list (group number two), fighting every day to stay strong — for myself, my girlfriend, and especially for my newborn daughters. It’s been an emotional and physical battle, but I’m holding onto faith that the right heart will come in time. Being in the hospital means I can’t work, and the medical bills and family expenses are adding up fast. I’m asking for help from anyone willing to support me and my family through this difficult time. Every donation — no matter how small — helps with hospital costs, recovery needs, and making sure my baby girls are cared for while I continue this fight. Thank you for reading my story, for your prayers, and for helping me stay strong for my daughters. — Jose
