 Our friend Don White needs your help. On November 20, 2025, Don suffered a massive aortic dissection, leaving him in the intensive care unit for several months. The majority of people with this type of cardiac injury do not survive long enough to make it to the hospital, let alone survive the surgery. After beating the odds of a risky, 6-hour, life-saving operation, his recovery has been slow but steady. He was in a coma for over a month and suffered serious complications. He remains in a rehab hospital in Massachusetts with very low mobility, and it looks like he will remain in rehab for several months to come. After the operation, the hospital staff gave him the nickname “one in a million.” After seeing how he has dealt with the complications, they have changed it to “one in five million.” Anyone who knows Don knows that his strong will and determination will get him through this. It will just take time.

Support Don White's Road to Recovery

<div>Hi, my name is Chuck Brodsky, and I'm a singer-songwriter living in Asheville, North Carolina. I'm fortunate to still have a house, but I need to ask for help for repairs. I’ve done a few crowdfunding campaigns in the past that allowed me to record new CDs, and with those I had something to offer in exchange. This time is a little different.

<div>Hurricane Helene caused 160 landslides in Buncombe County, NC, and 2 of them were on my property. One pushed a rock wall 10 feet out into the middle of my driveway. A muddy stream then flowed across the driveway, which clogged the drains on the other side of it. Then the water found its way to the edge of the hillside my house was built on, causing the hill to collapse in a massive slide, and leaving my house dangerously close to where the land fell away. The support posts for my deck were left just inches from the edge. I've attached a few videos so that you can see what happened. Fortunately, within a week I was able to find a crew to stabilize the deck by adding new posts a few feet further back. That was just a very temporary fix.

<div>The permanent fix, to stabilize and rebuild the hillside so it won’t collapse further and take the house with it, is going to cost a lot of money. I got bids from two very reputable geotechnical engineering firms, and I chose Gentry. Their bid was the lower of the two, but the price is staggering.

<div>It will cost somewhere between $195,000 and $210,000. This will cover soil testing, surveying, drawing up of plans, soil compacting, and construction work. A massive retaining wall needs to be built to hold up a restored hillside, and to keep it from ever falling again now that the land has been weakened. An additional retaining wall needs to be built behind the rock wall along the driveway, to keep it from failing again in the future. Proper drainage for both walls will be an essential part of the fix.

<div>Unfortunately, my homeowners insurance won’t cover landslide damage. And FEMA would only cover damage if it were to the actual house itself. Thankfully, my house was unscathed. But it’s sitting precariously close to what’s left of the hill it was built on, and without stabilizing the hill, it could someday fall.

<div>My driveway itself was also badly damaged by runoff from the mountain, and I’ll need to have landscaping work done as well. But I’m only asking for what it will cost to cover the structural repairs, to make things safe again. The driveway and landscaping I can deal with someday in the future.

<div>Chief Outlaw Hondo and his wife Sally need our support. They have been very active members in our community over the years feeding the hungry from their backyard food pantry and helping their friends and family fight illness. Hondo ran security at the Kerrville Folk Festival for 10+ years and Old Settler's Music festival for many years. He also led the charge for the Austin to Houston Harvey Relief during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. He staffed and led a team at a hub that received/distributed donations, fed and housed volunteers, mucked out homes that had been flooded, and raised money to help survivors.

<div>He started Hondo Presents to showcase local artists in the music scene in connection to Shakespeare's Cove where they collaborated on open-mics and house concerts. He and Shake staffed, built, and tore down VIP kitchens for ACL for over ten years. Needless to say, despite his outlaw exterior, Hondo has a heart for his people and music with Sally always at his right hand. He would give you the shirt off his back. Just don't ask for his underwear.

<div>In December 2023 Hondo suffered a heart attack that led to many heart procedures. Ultimately, these procedures led to a lung cancer diagnosis. The cancer in his lungs is also growing in a lymph node just outside of his lung. He is going to need surgeries along with other cancer fighting treatments to kick cancer's ass.

<div>There  have been a lot of casualties in this pandemic including my living situation. I do not want my show to be one of those casualties. As the pandemic started, I was doing great and I made every broadcast be a benefit for someone else.
</div>

<div>I had high hopes for the post pandemic life. I was planning on releasing a new album and a tour of the East Coast with Paul Benoit to support it! But that was after vaccination and before Delta.
</div>

</div>
<div>I would just be finishing that tour up today!
</div>

<div>The pandemic resurgence left me canceling the tour, postponing the album, and most dramatically, the end of my relationship in New Jersey. All of my possessions including the tools of my trade or in a storage bin that I do not have access to and cannot afford.
</div>

<div>I did perform at the Kerrville Folk Festival, the first and only live show I have done since the pandemic started. The Kerrville Folk Festival is a place that I have called home for over half my life. That is why I find myself still here and Austin. This is where I shall remain at least for the time being.

<div>The good news is: I am sober and have been for 60 days now. The longest I have ever gone in my life. Thank you for the encouragement! I intend to stay this way!

<div>For  me, 2021 has been very bad. In the first half of the year we lost six different family or extended family members including two mentors. Jim Alberni Hobbs, and of course Anne Feeney. Suddenly overnight there was another casualty: my relationship.

<div>Because of that I find myself single, homeless, living in a van, unemployed, and penniless in the middle of a pandemic.
</div>

<div>But my friends, I refuse to be defeated! THANK GOD FOR FRIENDS.  I have landed a little work as a Stagehand here in Austin. I am staying with a friend of a friend. I’m going to move ahead with a new album “Meek rising!“ Paul Benoit and I are going to tour again.

<div>I know the pandemic has been and continues to be hard on everyone. But I hope you can help me get back on my feet again. Start doing the weekly and monthly broadcasts again! The Chris Chandler Show's New Record

Our beloved Joyce Lee is facing the sudden loss of her husband David.  <br /><br />We are heartbroken, and want to support Joyce through this time.<br /><br />We witnessed how much David loved his beautiful wife and was loved in return.  Their joy in each other contributed to all of our lives. <br /><br />As this tragedy was wholly unexpected, any assistance you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.

<strong>Hey Stupidians and friends of Stupidians! We lost custody of our big top.</strong> It's such an important part of our camping experience, and we think, an important part of the Kerrville Festival. Thousands of folks have enjoyed our shade, rain shelter, hospitality, friendship, and great music over the years; and quite a few of these folks have expressed an interest in helping acquire another tent for our site. <br /><br />The target $$ amount for this campaign was set high on purpose, we don't know yet exactly how much we NEED to spend; and want to have the flexibility to be able to buy a quality product if we raise enough. Other expenses like shipping, transporation, chains, etc. will come into play as well.<br /><br />This will be a multi-use tent; we are proud to have shared our shelter with the Kerrville Music Camp for Kids, and plan to continue doing so when we get our new home. Camp Stupid needs a new tent!

<b>Rod Kennedy</b>, as Founder and Director Emeritus of
the <b>Kerrville Folk Festival</b>, has been
responsible for bringing both audience members and musicians some of the best
times of our lives.  As many of you know,
Rod's old injuries from his career as a race car driver have been catching up
with him.  At the end of June 2013, Rod
moved into Sterling House, an assisted living facility in Kerrville, TX.  While his Long Term Care Insurance will
ultimately contribute greatly to the expense of living at Sterling House, Rod
is responsible for the costs of the first 90 days of his residence there.  <br>
<b>Friends of Rod Kennedy</b> are creating this campaign so that
any and all who are grateful to Rod for the contributions he has made to their lives,
can give back to him to help with this transition to a new home where he can be
surrounded by help and care.  We'd like to
build a cushion for any future medical needs, as well.<br>

Giving Back to Rod Kennedy 

Greetings, friends! We are the Susquehanna Hat Company, a band from Austin, TX playing unique, original folk tunes - heartily, lustily, and often ominously.<br><br>The Susquehanna Hat Company has come a long way, both literally and figuratively, from its humble beginnings. Inspired by playing old-time, bluegrass, klezmer and other Eastern European songs, banjo-ist Adam Kobetich and accordionist Mila Ringo formed SHC to fit just such a purpose. We were soon joined by Michael Rubin on bass harmonica, thus creating the triangle of power which stands strong to this day. <br>Summer in Texas calls for escapes to cooler climates, and so in 2011 SHC members bid adieu and traveled far and wide across the country. Adam undertook a monumental solo bicycle tour to North Carolina, while Mila and her trusty dog drove to Washington. After a few months, upon reconvening back in Austin, both Adam and Mila were brandishing armfuls of new material; original songs about and inspired by our travels. Unwittingly we had created the cornerstone of what was to become the trademark of SHC - tales of love and lust, wanting and woe; of strange lands and mysterious folks far and away. <br>In 2012 SHC was joined by fiddler Austin Smith and thus became the solid thunder-bringin' quartet that it is today. With an ever-mounting repertoire of original songs, the natural next step was to record it once and for all and thus release our very first album.<br>We rehearsed and fine-tuned; we even made chord charts. Finally we were ready! Armed with instruments, we stepped into a lovely east Austin house with hardwood floors, where we recorded over several days with the multi-talented Jeff Luna. The result? 12 home-spun songs, recorded and mixed and then sent off to be mastered by Thomas van der Brook.<br><br>This, my dear friends, is where you come in. Our album, For Love of the River, is slated to come out in late September, but we still need help raising money for production costs. For the last three months, SHC has been paying the many bills associated with producing this CD out of our own pockets. While we have been applying our every resource and effort into making our CD, we are still $1540 short of our goal to get our music off the presses and into your hands. And so we turn to you, our friends and community, for donations to aid us in our endeavors. The $1540 we intend to raise will allow us to create and distribute 1,000 two-fold cardboard Digipaks (with two color printed disc!). <br><br>For Love of the River is not only a labor of love, it is a musical photograph. Not simply one moment frozen in time - it is a tattoo of our days and weeks spent traveling beneath the fierce blue sky, alongside roaring rivers; through mountains, deserts, forests, to the edge of the sea and back again. It is the inscription of the painstaking hours we took to compose, arrange, sing, teach, and re-learn our songs, whittling and refining them along the way. Inspired by other musicians who wrote of their travels, we seek to follow an age-old tradition while also bringing our own original, no-holds-barred, tumultous, sirenic, portentous, brazen and bizarre brand of music to the table. <br><br>Please take some time to check out our website, give us a listen, and donate if you feel so inclined.
