Unlock an extra £1m in charitable donations through payroll

1st donor
Help us unlock £1 million in additional charitable donations
Every year, millions of people donate generously to charity, with over £2.68b given in 2024 through Direct Debit.
But most don't realise that even with Gift Aid, they're giving in one of the least tax-efficient ways possible.
We're building The Payroll Giving Scheme - a new UK charity with one simple mission - make payroll giving the easiest, most engaging and most widely used way to donate to charity.
Why this matters
Payroll Giving allows donations to come directly from salary before income tax is deducted.
That means:
- taxpayers can give more without paying more
- charities receive significantly larger donations
- employers can support giving at no additional cost
Yet despite these benefits...
- only 3% of the UK workforce uses Payroll Giving
- over 60% of UK employees work for SMEs, yet most payroll giving providers barely serve them
- younger employees are highly receptive to payroll giving, but awareness remains incredibly low
This isn't because people don't want to give - it's because the system hasn't evolved.
Existing providers were built for a different era. Payroll Giving today is often invisible, difficult to access and largely ignored - meanwhile charities are missing out on millions of pounds every year.
Our vision
We're creating a completely new type of Payroll Giving agency.
Instead of outdated systems, we're building a modern, technology-first charity designed specifically for today's employers and employees.
We'll provide:
- simple online employer onboarding
- an engaging employee experience
- a charity discovery platform
- real-time impact dashboards
- a strong focus on SMEs, typically underserved by existing providers
Our goal is simple:
Unlock an additional £1 million of charitable donations.
Not by asking people to donate more money, but by helping them donate more effectively.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Why we're raising £5,000
Before we can begin operating, we must complete registration with the Charity Commission and establish all of the governance, policies, systems and infrastructure required to become an HMRC-approved Payroll Giving Agency.
The £5,000 will fund essential setup costs including:
- Charity Commission registration
- legal and governance documentation
- compliance and regulatory requirements
- banking and financial controls
- technology platform development
- website and employer onboarding tools
- operational setup before launch
This funding doesn't pay dividends or create private profit.
We're establishing as a charitable company limited by guarantee, meaning every pound raised is used to build an organisation whose purpose is to increase charitable giving across the UK.
Should we not achieve charitable status or become a HMRC approved payroll giving agency, every pound will be returned to the donors.
The bigger picture
If Payroll Giving became mainstream, the impact could be enormous.
If just 25% of donations currently made by Direct Debit were instead made through Payroll Giving, charities could receive over £134 million in additional donations through tax efficiencies alone.
We're starting with a modest target of £1 million in additional charitable donations.
But this is about building infrastructure that could benefit thousands of charities and hundreds of thousands of donors for years to come.

How you can help
Please consider contributing if:
- you believe charities should receive more from every donation
- you believe giving should be easier
- you believe technology can modernise charitable giving
Every donation helps us take the final steps towards becoming a registered charity and launching a new approach to Payroll Giving in the UK.
Together, we can help ensure more money reaches the charities that need it most.
Become a Founding Supporter
Every donation, no matter the size, helps us take one step closer to becoming a registered charity and launching a new standard for Payroll Giving in the UK.
As one of our earliest supporters, you'll forever be part of this journey.
We want to recognise the individuals and organisations who believed in this mission before we had launched, before we had employers, and before we had processed our first donation.
Every Supporter
Every person who donates will receive:
- A heartfelt thank you from our founding team.
- Regular progress updates as we move through Charity Commission registration, HMRC approval and launch.
- An invitation to follow our journey as we build the charity from the ground up.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Founding Members
Individuals who contribute £100 or more will become our Founding Members.
As a Founding Member, you'll receive:
- Permanent recognition on our website (optional).
- A personalised digital Founding Member certificate.
- A unique Founding Member digital badge.
- Early updates as we progress through Charity Commission registration, HMRC approval and launch.

Most importantly, you'll always be recognised as one of the first people to help build a charity dedicated to increasing charitable giving across the UK.
Years from now, when employers, employees and charities are benefiting from a modern, accessible Payroll Giving system, you'll be able to say you were there at the very beginning.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Founding Employer Partners
If you're donating on behalf of a business, we'd love to recognise your organisation as one of our Founding Employer Partners.
Subject to your permission, we'll:
- Display your logo on our website as a Founding Employer Partner.
- Recognise your support in launch communications.
- Offer early access to our employer platform before public release.
- Invite you to help shape the employer experience and future features.
- Once we're registered with the Charity Commission, we'll send you our charity registration details along with a formal acknowledgement of your donation to support your accounting records and any applicable corporation tax relief.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Again - should we not achieve charitable status or become a HMRC approved payroll giving agency, every pound will be returned to the donors.
Together, we'll demonstrate that businesses can play a meaningful role in transforming charitable giving across the UK.
