Mid February 2026, María and Roberto welcomed their baby boy. Nine days later, Roberto was arrested and detained by ICE while driving to his job. María didn’t know why Roberto did not come home that day. They never even had time to take a picture together of their new family! Roberto was taken into detention somewhere in the U.S. and held there for two months. María never even learned where he was held. ICE quickly deported him to his country of origin, Guatemala, leaving Maria all alone with her baby who was only 9 days old.

The baby is now 3 months old and María is living in total isolation in a one room basement rental, completely alone. The home she rents her room in is at the end of a dead-end street, so she has no one to help her with her baby. She is struggling to survive. María must pay for her rent, groceries and transportation to get the baby to his post-natal doctor appointments at a clinic that’s about 15 miles away.

She doesn’t drive and has no car so takes a transportation service; it is very expensive. She can’t work because there is no one to care for the baby and no family or friends available. María is afraid to leave her house and the anxiety of going out to appointments is overwhelming because of the danger of ICE in the community.

María needs about $5,000 to make it through the next 3 months while she works on making decisions for her and the baby’s future. Her baby is sweet and bright-eyed, and this is a critical time of his development. He needs his mama to provide food, safety, nurturing and stimulation.

Please help Maria to do this during this period of extreme hardship. Please donate what you can, and it helps tremendously to share this with your family, friends, community and place of worship. You can make a difference in the life of this new baby and his mama. At Maria's request, a PGIRC volunteer "JW" that is supporting her will accept donations to this fundraiser and transfer all funds to Maria directly.
