At We Care, our mission is simple:

To provide unhoused men with a safe, clean, and supportive place to stay.

We are not trying to get involved in politics. We don’t want to take sides or stir conflict. All we want is to continue doing what we’ve done for decades—serve the most vulnerable members of our community with dignity and compassion.

⚠️ The Crisis

We were awarded $267,100 through California’s Permanent Local Housing Allocation (PLHA) program—funding that covers half of our annual budget. However, to access these funds, it was believed that the State required a letter of support and a nominal $1 contribution from the City of Turlock.

On April 8, the City Council voted 3–2 against providing this support, jeopardizing our funding and the future of our shelter.

What’s at Stake

If We Care closes:

49 men will be left without shelter each night

Turlock will lose its only dedicated shelter for unhoused men

Our community will face increased homelessness and associated challenges.
