Hi, my name is Terrell. My brother and I have been caring for our mother, who has struggled with mental illness for most of our lives. She was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia many years ago, and sadly, her condition has worsened significantly in recent months.
Our mom is now 68 years old. She walks with a cane and, when unmedicated, experiences episodes where she believes her family members are demons and that the government is out to harm her. During her most recent episode, she called the police on us. It was heartbreaking and terrifying—but thankfully, the officers quickly understood the situation and helped get her the care she needed that night.
We’re doing everything we can to keep her safe, medicated, and fed. I work two jobs just to cover her utilities and basic needs, while also trying to support my own household. The emotional and financial toll is overwhelming, and we’re running out of options.
Right now, while she’s hospitalized, I’m trying to:
•Obtain legal guardianship
•Get her finances under control
•Find assisted living arrangements to ensure she’s safe and receiving her medication
This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced. Watching the woman who raised me slowly slip away is devastating. But even in this version of herself, she still depends on me—and I refuse to give up on her.
To bring a little light into this dark time, I’m creating a doggy calendar featuring our silly, lovable pups as a thank-you for donors who’d like one. It’s a small gesture, but it comes from the heart.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward helping my mom get the care she desperately needs. If you’ve read this far, thank you for caring. Your support means more than you know.
With gratitude,
Terrell
