Support Sophia's Fight for Palestinian Refugees
Tax deductible
Hi! My name is Sophia Johnson and this is to help raise money for families seeking refuge and help to leave Gaza and escape to a safe place without leaving their families and friends in Palestine. This is just the start and with hopefully more and more attention and help, we can get everyone to safety AND help them set up a new life until Palestine can be free.
100% of the money raised will be given to the Palestine Aid Society of America (located in Ann Arbor, MI 48015, United States). This organization was founded in 1978, Palestine Aid Society of America (PAS) is a secular, grassroots, US-based, tax-exempt [501(c)(3) corporation; EIN: 38-2381291], non-profit organization devoted to providing humanitarian support for the medical, educational, vocational, and cultural needs of Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and refugee camps.
For me myself, I’m just a 21-year-old woman from Virginia who is ready and willing to fight for change. I study political science in university and plan to become a pro bono lawyer when my studies are finished. I like to bake, and sing and dance. I come from a very big family, my favorite color is turquoise, and my least favorite food is squash. I’m a friend, sister, and auntie. I’m also a person who has faced terribly hard times in their life, and in all those times, all I hoped for was for someone to recognize me, and help me through my struggles. And though getting through those hard times alone made me stronger, it also taught me that no matter what, if I can help, I can, will, and MUST help. Not just because of the moral obligation, but because when I had next to nothing, the kindness of strangers is what saved me. So if I knew my one small kindness could change someone else’s life the way it changed mine, how could I not help? How could I not listen? How could I not care?
There are so many families that I see on social media every day asking for people to donate (and we should!!), but the fact that even after begging for help for months, there are still thousands of families that are far from reaching their goal. And for what? Are they not human? Do they not deserve to be recognized? To be heard? To be saved? How long can one endure constant violence and suffering while their lives crumble and their hope withers?
I wanted to make a GoFundMe to do more and advocate more for the innocent people of Palestine than just sharing and donating to the few videos I come across. These people deserve to grow old, to grow up! They deserve to have dreams, and hobbies, and “normal” problems. At the very least, they deserve help.
I hope that we can come together as people, but also a community, who understands what it feels like to need help and have people turn a blind eye. People who understand what it feels like to have nothing and no one to turn to. Together we can be their hope, and we can and WILL work tirelessly until Palestine is free. Please help and donate what you can.
