Support Shasta's Medical Mission in Dominican Republic

My name is Shasta Van Sickle. I am raising funds for the Dominican Republic. I have been going there for Medical Mission Trips every 6 months for a few years now. We provide general family medicine, but we also provide OB/GYN ultrasounds, MSK ultrasound guided injections, Orthopedic care, Physical Therapy, Dentistry, Opthalmetry, and Spiritual guidance. We do not go to the fancy 5 star resorts to provide this care. We set up a clinic in a school in Bani, Dominican Republic that Handfuls of Hope has built from the ground up for elementary age students. They are working on extending this to high school age students as well. We also go to other villages for a day to provide care to those who do not have transportation or health to drive to our school location. These areas are hours from a bigger city and in very poor locations. We feel the lord working in us and through us as we provide this care. We also work to train other Dominican Doctors to take over this care after we leave. Many of the medical students with us are in their beginning years of training and work as our translators or in our triage area. Every time we go, there is one patient who needs a lot of help with multiple specialists and surgical treatments. We see God working in always bringing the right team of providers to diagnose specific illnesses (cardiology and neurosurgeon to give an example), to help these people get the help that they desperately need. We also visit a girl's orphanage that is very close to my heart. These girls never asked to be put in the situations they are in. Some have been given away in the most awful ways such as sex trade. Some have been abused physically, emotionally, and sexually. And, some have lost their parents to illness. They all have so much potential to change who they are and heal from the things they have experienced, but also to be a light in their communities to help change there too.

We believe in starting with the kids in order to change the culture away from some of the evil that is seen and experienced in the Dominican Republic and the rest of the world.
