Support Oak Park's Community Shop Class

Dear Friends and Supporters of Oak Park’s Community Shop Class,

We are making a real difference in a very underserved part of Sacramento, Oak Park, and because of you, this past year at Community Shop Class has been a major success. I cannot express how grateful we are for your support.

I started Community Shop Class to provide a place for every type of learner to thrive, belong and prepare for the workforce.

In the last twelve months, we:

  • Taught hundreds of young people to build in our Tiny Home Academy and Tool Training programs, our learners are excited to start a life in trades work or manufacturing
  • Welcomed thousands of neighbors to the Community Shop Class workshop and facilities and provided free tools for use through our tool library.
  • Helped dozens of housing-insecure young people by teaching them to build E-Bikes and provided them with clean micro-mobility solutions in our E-Bike Manufacturing programs.
  • Hosted over 40 free classes and learning experiences for neighbors
  • Provided small appliance repair services for low-income residents through our monthly “Fix-it Café”
  • Taught vegetable gardening skills and growing food in our Garden Box Program
  • Started a growing neurodivergent peer support group

Over the next 12 months, we have goals to add more introductory classes, more versions of our Youth Building and Entrepreneurship camps, and repeat the successful after-school project programs our kids have grown to love.

We hope to expand the Tiny Home Academy this Fall and Spring of 2025 and we will keep hosting free events and dances for our neighbors. We will also continue supporting neurodivergent learners through our ADHD Inventor’s Club projects, meetings, and videos.

I am writing because we need your help again this year to ensure we can continue serving those who deserve to learn and be trained.

Changing the world isn’t easy and Community Shop Class simply cannot do this without supporters like you. Would you consider continuing or expanding your previous grant to help us increase our impact in the coming year?

I have seen the impact Shop Class has had on people’s lives and their families and I believe you too want to see a more sustainable and compassionate world where all types of learners are celebrated.
