Support Night Owls United Workers

Corpus DSA extends our most heartfelt solidarity to Night Owls United workers dealing with the aftermath of months of union busting, harassment, workplace abuse, and subsequent mass layoffs. The workers faced months of union busting including meetings with union avoidance consultants, one worker being fired in retaliation for initiating organizing, and a long drawn out effort to win voluntary recognition which resulted ultimately in a refusal to voluntarily recognize their bargaining unit. Despite all of this, the workers successfully won their union election December 12 only to be informed January 12 that Night Owls had been sold to right wing print conglomerate Thrive.

"After we won our union election,

Night Owls owners Eric and Val Solomon secretly sold Night Owls to right-wing printing conglomerate Thrive Screen Printing.

Yesterday, Night Owls laid off

the vast majority of us in a surprise 9AM

meeting. We didn't receive severance pay or support-just a cheap printout titled 'Layoff Care Packet.' The company then locked us out of the building before we could gather our belongings.

Don't support this deplorable behavior.

Boycott Night Owls."

We want to encourage all to honor the boycott and extend any possible solidarity to the workers now faced with the overwhelming burden of unemployment. To this end, we are attempting to raise a month's worth of wages for all terminated Night Owls workers in accordance to the estimated Harris County living wage of $20.25. We encourage all who can to donate and all those who cannot to share this GoFundMe and inform others of the boycott.
