Mirbelis, a close family friend, detained in San Antonio during a regularly scheduled immigration hearing on July 15.

Mirbelis is a hardworking, compassionate woman who came to the U.S. seeking a better life. She left behind her home, her loved ones, and everything familiar to start over in hopes of safety, opportunity, and stability.

Despite the challenges she faced, Mirbelis always gave to others — even when she had very little herself. She’s helped many people, including me, and has been a shining example of kindness, generosity, and integrity be it at work, with her family, or her friends and community. To me and my family, she became one of our own — and always will be.

We are now raising funds to help Mirbelis secure legal representation in her immigration case. On July 15, during a routine check-in with immigration in San Antonio, she was unexpectedly detained and taken to a detention center along with other people at random. Mirbelis has no criminal record and had already been granted a work permit, yet she was still taken into custody and is being held in detention with no guidance on when or if she will be released.

This situation is heartbreaking and unjust. Every contribution — big or small — will help her fight for her release and her right to remain in this country.

Mirbelis, una amiga de mi familia, fue detenida en San Antonio durante un chequeo el 15 de julio.

Mirbelis es una mujer trabajadora y compasiva que vino a los Estados Unidos en busca de una vida mejor. Dejó atrás su hogar, a sus seres queridos y todo lo que le era familiar para comenzar de nuevo con la esperanza de encontrar seguridad, oportunidades y estabilidad.

A pesar de los desafíos que ha enfrentado, Mirbelis siempre ayudado a los demás con lo poco que tenía. Ella decía que con amor y con cariño todo era bueno.

Ha apoyado a muchas personas, incluyéndome a mí, y ha sido un ejemplo brillante de amabilidad, generosidad e integridad, ya sea en el trabajo, con su familia, con sus amistades o en su comunidad. Para nosotros ella es parte de nuestra familia.

Ahora estamos recaudando fondos para ayudar a Mirbelis a obtener representación legal en su caso de inmigración. El 15 de julio, durante un chequeo rutinario con inmigración en San antonio Tx, fue detenida inesperadamente y llevada a un centro de detención junto con otras personas, aparentemente al azar. Mirbelis no tiene antecedentes penales y ya se le había otorgado un permiso de trabajo, sin embargo, fue puesta bajo custodia y permanece detenida sin información clara sobre cuándo o si será liberada.

Esta situación es desgarradora e injusta. Cada contribución — grande o pequeña — ayudará en su lucha por obtener la libertad y el derecho a quedarse en este país.
