Hi! I just shaved my head to donate my hair to Locks of Love! But while Locks of Love certainly loves locks, they also need money to operate; that's why I've put together this fundraiser to financially 'sponsor a child'.
Locks of Love is a non-religious, non-political, and not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization. Its mission is to promote the well-being of children through its program of providing hairpieces and, remarkably, it commits to all recipients on a LONG-TERM basis, allowing them to receive custom prostheses, every 2 years until the age of 21. Because of these extended promises, its current financial obligation is many multiples of its annual expenses. Currently, Locks of Love holds in unrestricted financial reserves approximately 10x the annual expenses of 2023, which does not meet its current financial obligation to its children. And Locks of Love continues to accept application from hitherto-unaided children for custom hairpieces!
Please help me support Locks of Love in supporting children with hair loss. The dollar amount quoted by Locks of Love to 'sponsor a Locks of Love child' is $1250. My goal with this fundraiser is to crowdsource enough money to sponsor a kiddo. So please consider pitching in! Every dollar counts :)
FAQ:
What's it look like under the bandana?
Why shaven? Why not just short? Bob cuts are cute...
Because every inch of hair donated counts, helping Locks of Love make better prostheses. Plus, Locks of Love sells 'unusable' hair (e.g. the little bits I shaved off at the end of the process) to offset production costs
... OK, fine, it's also because I don't know how to give myself a short haircut while maximizing usable hair, and I don't really do hair salons.
