Hello, everyone. This campaign comes at the request of myself and our family for my mother. We are looking to help raise funds to enhance her quality of life. Please allow me to explain.

My mother ( Birdie Reed) is a beautiful, loving 84 year old woman. Her and my dad live a few doors down from us. Over the last few years, Mom has been finding it extremely difficult to safely navigate the landscape in and around their home, which is a modest but cozy single wide trailer. She has been hospitalized within the year for this as well. She can not walk unassisted without a walker, and that can only be done safely when others are nearby to assist. She has recently endured more frequent cases of falling when trying to walk even with her walker. A recent incident resulted in her sustaining a head injury. Thankfully, the fall did not produce long term or severe injury beyond a cut, but our family has an increasingly growing concern to ensure that her safe space (her home) is truly as safe as possible. That will require some in-home modifications that the family needs help with.

One of the first things needed is having a wheelchair ramp installed at their home, no less than 18 feet long. Mom can not safely navigate the few short stairs that go into their home, and a ramp will be a tremendous upgrade for her to allow for safer maneuverability in and out of the house. Our best estimates have calculated that to be a $3,200.00 expense.

Another upgrade that the family is looking at is a medical recliner for her to be able to go from a sitting to a standing position comfortably without having to exert a lot of physical energy as most days she needs assistance standing. The units we have been looking at cost upward of $1,300.00. This enhancement to mom's living space will greatly aid in her ability to sit and stand comfortably and safely gain her footing from a seated position.

Lastly, a manual Hoyer lift. Mom is prone to falling. The lift is essential so that dad can get her up if no other family members are close to come and pick her up off the ground and bring her to the bed or couch. This piece of equipment is a nearly $600.00 expense.

This campaign is meant to help raise funds to secure all of the things mentioned for mom to live out her life with peace and comfort. The family can not wait for insurance to validate the claims for her needs, so we are pursuing this option in hopes of getting the things she desperately needs in a timely manner.
