Vinlandferth is a veteran-led American nonprofit bringing a historically recreated Viking longship from Denmark to America.

Built in partnership with the Museum of the Viking Ship in Roskilde, Denmark, our 50-foot Gokstad replica will set sail in June 2027 on a 90–120 day transatlantic voyage from Roskilde to Pensacola, Florida.

Our route will take us through the Shetland Islands, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, L’Anse aux Meadows, Montréal, Chicago, and down the Mississippi River to the Gulf Coast.

This isn't just a voyage. It's living history.

Our crew, composed primarily of American veterans alongside an international team, will take on this extraordinary challenge using historically inspired equipment and traditional skills wherever reasonably possible.

But the voyage is only the beginning.

Our long-term vision is to bring the ship permanently home to the Gulf Coast and build a Viking village, Hinge Fortress, and museum dedicated to maritime heritage, education, craftsmanship, community, and creating opportunities for veterans and others to find purpose through doing, making, and belonging.

Vinlandferth was founded by U.S. Marine Corps veteran Keith Alexander, whose decade-long dream of building a Viking ship and sailing it to America has grown into an international mission.

We believe history can connect people. We believe creating something with your own hands can restore a sense of purpose. And we believe an ambitious dream can become something much bigger when a community gets behind it.

Now we need that community.

Your donation helps us move this ship from Denmark to America and brings us one step closer to making this extraordinary journey a reality.

The ship is being built. The crew is preparing. The journey is coming.

Be a part of the journey today!
