I’m creating this fundraiser on behalf of my coworker and dear friend, Kristi, her husband, Michael, and their fur babies. Those of us who work alongside them have watched them face an unimaginable series of hardships with resilience and grace.

Just weeks after losing Michael’s father, Michael and Kristi returned home expecting to begin healing from their loss. Instead, they discovered another devastating crisis waiting for them.

Earlier this year, a neighboring property experienced a major pipe burst that flooded their garage and left extensive moisture inside their home. Although they believed repairs were being handled, the moisture remained hidden behind the walls.

While they were away attending the funeral, the problem worsened dramatically. Environmental testing has now confirmed extremely elevated levels of mold contamination inside their home, making it unsafe to live in. Looking back, many things suddenly make sense.

For months, both Michael and Kristi experienced severe fatigue and unexplained illness that seemed to worsen with time. Today, they cannot safely live in their home.

Even more difficult, Michael’s specialized business equipment remains inside the contaminated house and cannot be used until it has been professionally cleaned. As a result, their income has come to an abrupt stop at the same time their expenses have skyrocketed.

They are now facing:

• Loss of business income

• Temporary housing costs while displaced

• Continued rent and utilities during the ongoing dispute

• Attorney fees as they work through the housing situation

• Insurance deductible and recovery expenses

• Increased costs for food, fuel, laundry, and daily necessities

Michael and Kristi have always worked hard to provide for themselves and have never imagined asking others for financial help. But after losing a parent, losing their home, and temporarily losing their ability to earn a living, they are facing more than they can manage alone.

Our goal is to raise $15,000 to help bridge this difficult season until they can return to safe housing, get Michael’s equipment professionally remediated, reopen his businesses, and regain financial stability.

Every donation will go directly toward housing, essential living expenses, business recovery, and legal and insurance-related costs.
