Small Team, Big Impact on Hunger

Who We Are: A Small Team with Big Hearts
We’re a small team with big hearts—working professionals from North Texas area who’ve returned to school to deepen our knowledge and pursue goals that matter to us. Whether we’re building on past experience or preparing for the next chapter in our careers, we’re united by a shared desire to do something meaningful with the opportunities we’ve been given.

That’s why we’ve come together to support The Hunger Project, a global nonprofit committed to ending chronic hunger through sustainable, community-led solutions. This isn’t just a research topic—it’s a cause we care about personally. Hunger affects futures, families, and communities. We've seen the impact up close, and we believe change starts with everyday people taking action.

Why We Care
Hunger is a widespread issue that affects both our global neighbors and families right here in Texas. Here’s what we’ve learned:

  • 733 million people across the world suffer from chronic hunger
  • 99% of them live in low- or middle-income countries
  • In Texas, nearly 17% of residents experience food insecurity—4.5% above the national average
  • Children, Black, and Latino communities are among the hardest hit by hunger

Hunger isn’t just about a lack of food—it’s about missed school days, declining health, lost potential, and difficult choices no one should have to make.

The Hunger Project goes beyond providing food. They address the root causes of hunger by investing in education, clean water access, healthcare, gender equity, and local leadership development.

The Human Side of Hunger
One of our team members works in a local Texas elementary school and shared a story that made a lasting impression:

Abby, a second grader, struggled to stay awake during class—especially on Mondays. Her teachers noticed that after lunch, she became more alert, playful, and engaged. Eventually, they learned her family was struggling with food insecurity.

On weekends, when school meals weren't available, Abby would give up her own food to feed her younger siblings. Her mother, working multiple jobs, was unaware of the extent of the sacrifice.

Once the school community intervened, Abby began receiving consistent meals and her health and academic performance improved. She was finally able to enjoy childhood without the burden of adult worries about food.

This story is just one of many, and while it has a hopeful ending, not every child is as fortunate.

Global Stories of Change
The Hunger Project shares success stories from across the globe. In one rural village, a young girl who once walked miles daily just to access water now attends school regularly. With the support of The Hunger Project, her community gained clean water access, nutrition education, and farming tools. Her family is now working toward long-term stability—one harvest at a time.
