Dearest Community,

This is Sam, writing this GoFundMe on behalf of my cousin Shenae Craig.

Shenae is a woman of many talents and identities. Whether you’ve met her out canvassing for a political campaign, danced at a party she’s deejayed, or spotted her capturing content at WNBA game, you know Shenae is a force to be reckoned with. She is a writer, a journalist, a cultural curator, a community organizer, a DJ and so much more.

She’s also a daughter, a sister, a cousin, a friend, a community member and someone in need of our support.

In March 2025 Shenae was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Metastatic breast cancer is cancer in its most advanced stage. It is cancer that has spread from the breasts to distant body parts like the bones. It is a life long condition and can be profoundly debilitating.

So for Shenae, that means that life looks a lot different now.

Earlier in 2025 you likely saw Shenae out canvassing for Mayor Mamdani or launching her brand, Don’t Call Me Baby. But you haven’t seen what doesn’t make it to social media.

Many days are filled with extreme pain and major fatigue. This illness is not only taxing on Shenae’s body but also on her mental health and spirit. Sadly, because of all the pain, many of her days are spent home alone. That is emotionally exhausting.

As you can likely imagine, this is a lot for a single 34 year old to handle. She’s been getting by largely with the support of friends and close cousins. But she needs the support of her community too.

Shenae cannot work and thus, she doesn’t have much money to cover her basic needs. Nor does she have the funds to live life outside of spending most days staring at the four walls of her bedroom.

I am writing this on her behalf to raise money for Shenae at this difficult time. With these funds Shenae will:

Cover Her Basic Needs ($40K)

Shenae does not have a job and thus has very little money to pay for groceries and other bills. Living in New York is expensive, especially if you are disabled and unemployed. With these funds Shenae will cover her basic needs through the rest of 2026.

Take a Much Needed Vacation to the Homeland ($5K)

Before being diagnosed with breast cancer Shenae had been planning a trip to her family’s home in Jamaica to get some sun and visit an ailing family member. Sadly, the plans were cut short by the diagnosis.

Then, in 2025, after she saved up enough money and felt healthy enough to go — the metastatic breast cancer diagnosis hit. With these funds, Shenae can hire a travel agent who arranges trips for disabled people and cover travel expenses. She can finally take a trip she’s been dreaming of, breathe fresh air, feel the sun on her skin, and make meaningful memories with her loved ones.

Every contribution, big or small, helps Shenae as she adjusts to living with metastatic breast cancer. This journey has been difficult but you alls support truly means a lot to her. Even sharing this page means the world. We are so grateful for every act of kindness.
