Leeds Caribbean and African Centre Building a Stronger Future Together

The Leeds Caribbean and African Centre (formerly Leeds West Indian) has been at the heart of Chapeltown since 1983. Born out of a time of long-standing racial tensions, the Centre became a vital hub for the Caribbean community and today, it proudly continues to serve both Caribbean and African communities, alongside the wider public.

We honour the vision, resilience, and sacrifice of those who came before us to establish and sustain this space. Their legacy lives on in a Centre that embodies inclusivity, collaboration, and community engagement. Located in the heart of Chapeltown, we remain a place where people come together, to learn, connect, celebrate culture, and find support.

Our Centre plays an essential role in fostering social interaction, education, cultural enrichment, and unity. It is a safe and welcoming environment where everyone is valued, and where meaningful relationships are built between generations, bringing together respected elders and young people whose voices and experiences shape our future.

Now, we need your support to help us continue this important work. We are raising funds to improve and refresh our much-loved building, through decorating, installing new accessible toilets, upgrading flooring, and making general improvements. These changes will ensure the Centre remains inviting, inclusive, and accessible to all.

Our goal is to create a space that is not only fit for today, but sustainable for generations to come a true community hub, built by the people, for the people.
