Jeffny’s 7th Annual Smile Mile
Tax deductible
In 2016 Jeffny was hard at work on an event aimed to celebrate inclusion and support the work of Special Olympics CT. Her vision was an accessible and fun event that would bring together a community of diverse abilities and break down the stigma and isolation that often faced those who have physical and intellectual disabilities.
Jeffny tragically passed in October of 2016, before the Smile Mile came to be. But, UConn students and The Special Olympics Committee came together to carry out Jeffny’s vision the following March. It’s been an honor and joy to be a part of the Smile Mile for the past 6 years.
This year, we are planning to host the event in person in the Greer Field House at UCONN’s Storrs Campus on Saturday, April 29th from 10am - 12pm. Regardless of whether you can join us, consider donating to the Special Olympics and keeping Jeffny’s legacy of giving, joy, and inclusion alive.
The aim of Special Olympics Connecticut is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community.
