For those of you who don’t know me, my name is James Archer and on the 2nd of April 2025, my Dad lost his battle with cancer.

Back in October 2024, I received the news that Dad had a rare blood cancer, that was untreatable. This heavily affected his day-to-day life as simple tasks were becoming difficult for Dad. Between October - April I spent a lot of time with dad helping him with his shopping etc and I could see that he was starting to slow down.

Towards the end of March I received the news that the hospital was going to make him comfortable rather than treating him, and those few days I got to spend with Dad before his passed is exactly why I am attempting this run. He was in alot of pain but I could see him fighting it to try and tell me he was okay. Even right to the end his main priority was making sure that I was okay. And that is the kind of man he was.

In Dad’s Will, there was a line that mentioned any unclaimed estate should go to cancer research, so I see this gofundme as a way of fulfilling his wish and aiding the brillaint research that the charity do.

My dad meant the absolute world to me and not a single day goes by where I don’t think about him. I used to spend all my weekends with him, watching football and just enjoying each other’s company.

I wanted to do a challenge that I knew would really push me to my limits. Those that know me know that I am not a runner in the slightest. I will be completing the Great Eastern Run in Peterborough on the 12th of October in memory of dad.
