We’re Hunger Busters, a group of students at the University of North Texas working to fight food insecurity and make a difference outside of school.
We've got some work to do! According to the 2025 State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) report, nearly 673 million people experienced moderate to severe hunger in 2024 with estimates of still more than 500 million by the year 2030(1). In order to make continued and effective positive change, The Hunger Project looks at the specific circumstances and inequities that exist within a given community and helps to bring change and understanding. Hunger isn’t just about not having enough to eat. It’s also linked to poverty, limited education, and not having access to lasting resources. We see food insecurity in our own neighborhoods, and this project encourages us to support long-term efforts around the world, too.
We decided to support The Hunger Project because they focus on more than just short-term help. They partner with communities to build self-reliance through education, leadership, and sustainable food systems.
Thanks to the efforts provided in part by The Hunger Project, Abraham was able to transform his vegetable farm in Ghana so that his children can go to school. After the guidance provided by a THP workshop, he was able to secure a small business loan, and diversify his crops and change the future for his family(2).
Your donation will help support programs that offer:
* Access to nutritious food
* Training in sustainable farming and local food production
* Education and leadership opportunities, especially for women and families
This isn’t just about quick fixes. It’s about helping communities make real, lasting changes.
As students, we’re learning what it means to take real action and the effect that putting in the work can really have. By supporting this campaign, we can help empower people instead of just offering help.
If you can donate, every single dollar could make a tremendous difference. If you can’t, sharing our campaign helps us reach more people!
