Sometimes life changes in a single appointment.
This month, our dear friend Mark received news no one is ever prepared for. At just 52 years old, he has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the liver and pelvis — a diagnosis that is unoperable and incurable.
This news came after Mark had already fought — and beaten — stage 3 colorectal cancer just two years ago. He faced that battle with strength, humour, grit, and a quiet determination that those who know him will recognise instantly. Sadly, this time, the path ahead looks very different.
Mark is many things. He is kind, funny, thoughtful, deeply caring, and endlessly generous with his time and heart. He also has a playful side — he often jokes that he’s a Viking at heart, going by his alter name Sigurd, a reflection of the warrior spirit he’s carried through every challenge life has thrown at him.
But more than anything, Mark is a partner, a father, and a family man.
The Impact on his family
This diagnosis has been devastating not just for Mark, but for the people who love him most:
- Maddy, his partner, who is now facing the unimaginable — loving someone through their final chapter while trying to stay strong for her family.
