“Can we hang out together?”

Those words are etched in my heart forever.

They were spoken by a little girl at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, when I came, dressed as the Snow Queen, to visit her. For me, it was another visit with my campus organization, A Moment of Magic. For her, it was everything. She had asked the nurses earlier that day, “Can I call the Snow Queen on the phone?” Much to her surprise, the Snow Queen showed up in her room just hours later and sat by her bed, playing her favorite games and telling her all about life with magical powers.

This little girl was confined to an isolating hospital room with a life-threatening heart condition, a tube in her nose, monitors blinking everywhere. At five years of age, she was already carrying a weight no child should have to bear. But for one hour, she was allowed be a child again, to play with her dolls, laugh and sing songs, smile and tell jokes. And best of all, she did all of that with her favorite character of all time.

This story represents just one of countless A Moment of Magic stories I have stored in my heart forever. As the chapter president of AMoM here at UC, it has become my life’s passion to grow our chapter to reach as many children as possible in hospitals across Ohio, and to inspire them to be brave, strong, and fearless.
